Thanks guys!

77dual - it's just shy of 5 inches. You can't really go any more unless you start doing body modifications. I'm in the process of building brand new narrowed beams so yeah I'd love to build you one. You can call me on 0412 441 831 or PM me. Do you live in Melbourne? I think I've seen your work ute in Albert Park.

captainvw - Still got to bleed the brakes and put in rear adjusters. It should ride really nice with all brand new front end components and 3.5 flipped spindles. I'll let you know when I take it for spin!

I'll give you a call soon.

cheers, Scotty

Thanks Eccles! :)

Hi Scotty, you can easily find beetle and split beams but yeah, bays not so much. Give me a call anytime and we can chat about what you want and budget. There's a few different way of going about it.

Cheers,
Ross

Hi Klaus, The lowest point is 90mm off the ground. It looks lower than it really is although 90mm isn't much I thought there'd be less. I think 110mm is the minimal legal height in Vic.. does anyone know?

Hey Ross, how did you mount your front shocks. When I built my beam I had trouble because the shock bolts on the arms were going to come up and hit the end plates. Your beam looks the same. Hope this makes sense. Also what shocks to you plan to run in yours.

Hey starkz: you need to make sure you have end plates that extend towards the back of the car. This allows the shock to clear the side plate bolts. Does this make sense? Shocks.. mmm.. still working that out. Thanks for your suggestion on beetle shocks Klaus!

surfpig: 100mm - perfect... I'm not far away then.

Do you need to have these front end mods inspected? Will they allow ball joints to used upside down?

Who's 'they' ?

I agree NB, upside down ball joints look questionable.

In a beetle the ball joints are one each way, but in the offroad Thing, VW needed a tougher suspension setup and turned both ball joints to face downward. They are this way in a bus normally, and are much stronger orientated that way.

Looks way cool tho :)

In SA the Road Transport Authority do all the vehicle testing-and that wouldn't get the OK.

I WISH, in my dreams my bus looks like yours but in reality its suffering from altitude sickness. I will live through your efforts until mid year until i can afford to get mine done. My only problem will be front beam can u recommend anyone near sydney who could do the business, again great job.
