crikey, when I started this thread I was questioning whether Australia day is on the appropriate date and from the diversity of posts it appears we all have varying views but their is a strong theme of support for Australia day and so maybe the date is not so important as the celebration itself for our nation, (boguns aside) What is a bit surprising, considering the diversity of views, ages and political persuasions is our common love of air-cooled volkswagens! Thats not bad I reckon

Hutcho,
Im not sure what your trying to say?
I was saying to the person who posted above saying they are immigrants and they have moved here and loving it here. About the "indigenous" thing you were saying im not sure what your trying to say. My Grandfather was Aboriginal of the Lower Clarence River and he was decent of an african prisioner that came on the first fleet. So even though i am "indigenous" i have no hate or anger towards the first fleet coming because i wouldnt be here if they never came. Australia day for me is being proud of who i am as an indigenous Australian and just to be proud of the country i live in.

OK Dylan, perhaps if I read the thread a little more closely I would have picked that up. I apologise to you and yes Donn he is a credit to himself and his people.

My thought, for what it was worth, is that I have in my occupation a number of aboriginal people (not many but a good number) in m y face from time to time insisting I am walking on their land. I have an issue with that and maybe its a little too close to the surface.

Hutcho,

Yes there are alot of Aboriginal people that have that bad attitude and say those kinds of things. It is only hate and anger passed down from generation to generation. although I and alot of other Indigenous Australians can move on and forget about the past and be greatfull that the Government cares about our Mob now and dose alot to help us. they Pay for alot of stuff for us to give us a decent life even if we dont have the money, the government gives us the opitunities we cant make happen. It is Shame to our people and our communitie when groups of Indigenous Australians do outrageous acts like burning the aussie flag and so called "attaching" the prime minister. The Media jumps straight on these occasions and gives our People a bad name when there are alot of us that have moved on and wanna live a good life as BAWU - BLACK AND WHITE UNITED

I was really upset when i saw the Aussie flag being spat on and burnt at the protest( tent embassy) on tv the other night. My brothers wife is Aboriginal and very proud, and she was disgusted with what happened at that protest. Many race of people have died under that flag fighting for Australia and to spit on it is a very low and cowardly act :td:.

Yep soo True, I hope everyone realises there is people like that in every race and not to think all Aboriginals are like that. If people looked into our culture, communitie and values an laws we are very Proud, Respecting People with good moral values and what happend the other day was frowned upon by many Aboriginal elders and everyone in the Comunitie is shamed from that group of Actibists.

I tell people that I'm English by birth but Australian by choice. That the flag is racist makes me laugh as the Union Jack (Flag - call it what you like) itself represents the union of three seperate nations, the English, Scottish and Irish - Wales is a principality so therefore was never a kingdom (not 100% sure the difference?). Nope I am now Australian and celebrate Australia Day the same as all my friends and the flag has been the same long before I ever came here and it should never change, you can't change history by changeing the flag although the flag was different 200 years ago (no flag of St Patrick on it then) and I think it would be terribly disrespectful by anyone to even want to change it when you think of all the people who have died for it and what it represents.

It's actualy changed more than once though only in very slight ways, can't recall the exact changes but I kinda remember from school days (yes I did go to school but it was in an old bark humpy out the back of Wheelabaraback) that one was the addition of an extra point to the large star under the union Jack (federation star ?) to represent onother state or something, I kinda remember that it was something to do with Papua New Guinea..

Probably most.

It's just that the media keep showing the contraversial ones and the younger generations learn to believe it.

WannaVee,

ur got the right idea mate. I can't understand how people can come into another land and as soon as they get here start trying to change the way our country is to suit themselfs or there family or there culture or there race. Multiculturalism is good but theres a right way and a wrong way to go about things and you need to compromise ur rules and belives if you move to a country full of a whole bunch of different races and peoples in a very multicultural country like Australia.

The problem with Port Macquarie is that it needs to be a little bit more multicultural so that we can get cheap meals.
