Now bring on Warwick!

I would like to take this time to thank Craig Hughes and all his helpers for putting on an amazing weekend of VWs and racing,it was just fantastic.
I would also like to thank everyone that came out to my shop (Dino's Pizza) for dinner,I hope you enjoyed it as much as i did.The feed back from the Center Mangment was great and the locals loved seeing all of our VWS.
I would also like to thank Shane Hobson for bringing out the Tiki and firing it up not once but twice during the night and shaking the sh#t out of Glenmore Park.
On a personal note i would like to thank Joel and Phil Mizzi for there efforts in making sure my Single Cab was at the shop on Friday night.
I also need to thank Ryan Heyman for his work on preppairing the Pizza Bug for racing and sitting behind the wheel, your a good friend thanks again.
cheers Dean

Hi All
The Loco Gringo's just got back to Melbourne. We had a great weekend and both our cars; Beetle Juice and the Grey Ghost ran their fastest 1/4 times. Unfortunately the gearbox in Mike’s car lost its first gear late in the afternoon and was pitted for the rest of the day. Steve has the slips for Beetle Juice so I can give the exact times for him but I ran in the Grey Ghost with two 11 second passes. The second pass on the day came up with an 11.961@113.7mph and the last of the nine passes for the day 11.946@112.69mph. I am stoked to have run my first 11 second pass finally after trying all last year on slippery tracks and getting so close. The car is still a bit twitchy to say the least but with a little more work on the suspension, the wheelie bars and a new box ( the old box still has standard 1500 ratios) I hope to go a little quicker if not then a little straighter! The Ghost ran consistently 12.00 flat all day and my dial in for the finals was 11.95 which I broke out with the 11.94!
Thanks to Craig for putting on a great event once again, and thanks to all the VW competitors for the awesome racing and the Melbourne guys who travelled up to support us on the day.
Thanks to Mike Cronin the Loco Gringo’s crew chief, Greg Harmer my crewman Ewan Munro Steve’s crewman for all their patience and help in getting both of us there safely and racing on the day.
Thanks also to the new Gringo Bernie Martin for making the trip with us and hope to see him racing at the next drag meet with his new turbo car "Sanches", it sounds like a Mexican!
Cheers

Love all the pics and comments, thanks heaps for posting, as said you don't see too much when competing.

A great event and as usual the VW community pulls it off.

Thanks to Craig and organisers at WSID for an event that went without a hitch.

Time to go build a fast engine :)

mmm , thanks for asking Brenndan. Not real nice to come home to, but I was expecting worse and hoping for better. 330mm of rain last Friday night made the Six Mile Creek b ehind us break it's banks, not extremely unusual, but this time it rose to where no one has seen it rise to before........my workshop has a clean floor after 11" of floodwater went through.....needless to say I have a bit of a clean up ahead. :(

Had a great weekend, thanks as usual to Craig and to the WSID crew for a great track also to Dean for the yummy pizza on Friday night. Thanks also to Mark Zellner who crewed for me, even though I broke 1st gear in the 3rd round I still posted a PB of 12.7 so I'm pretty happy anyway, think I might need some help to solve this problem.
Looks I'm being replaced by a new guy on the Gringos team (just read it on Andrews post) no matter i'll still be at Warwick later this year

Fantastic event Craig Thanks, we had a ball, it is a shame more people didn't stay for the Saturday night, the band was great.

This was the 1st time I have run my new street engine and gearbox on the track, it ran very well although gearbox ratios weren't ideal for the full quarter.

I had 8 runs with a best of 13.3 and a best MPH of 99.5.

Well done Craig and helpers (whom I'm sure there are many!) for putting on such a great event at a great facility. I hope the numbers and interest was sufficient to see it continue in the future. It was a pleasure to sponsor the event and have the opportunity to show some of our products to the NSW and a few VIC and SA crew who normally can't swing by our showroom to have a look. We look forward to supporting both Warwick and Sydney in coming years.

Congratulations to all those who got onto the track, and those who pulled out some great performances. Some personal highlights were seeing Wayne P open up the turbo oval and the other WPVW cars running so well, Dave B for getting back out there after rocker mishaps and running a 10.7, Rod Penrose's insane albeit static new car (so close hey Rod), and of course Henry and Rod's continuing staging dual :)

Kudos to eveyone who came along and raced or like us, enjoyed spectating the action.

good stuff, love those last minute stories!

mines similar

5 speed box developed a bit of a noise the week before Sydney, so decided not to risk it all and pulled it out Sunday arvo. Somehow managed to fit up some axles and type 3 drums to my faithful old 4 speed between work shifts, finishing off getting the engne in and running 1.30 am friday with crazy col..........thanx buddy for making the whole trip a laugh!

........up Friday 5am to pack as many tools and spares we could find and fit under the seats and bonnet, always the best insurance to avoid those queeny trailers. Here it got really interesting becuase we also packed in the missus and my 4 year old daughter plus their necessities for their first decent roady in the lil screamer. 520km ahead of us and the rest of the crew

Bucket of nerves till our first stop 2 hours down the road where a look under the car provided a much need reassurance that all fluids were staying where they belonged........had a grin from ear to ear for 20 minutes after that stop!

Brian should have some sweet pics of us all on the freeway Mel and I with our ear plugs and Zj in her booster clad with full ear muffs

oh went down the stip as well on Saturday, running 16.7 which was not good enough for my liking........ran a bit harder off the line to take a small amount of time off.....not good enough!........so sitting in staging decided it was time to pick up the family i had dropped off earlier between runs, put it in reverse and shot down the road to the motel. Yes i was kind enough to stop and ask D.B and Rod if they wanted anything from the shops whilst down the street in my "race car"

So back to the track five minutes later and a phone call to Craig Torrens about how it sounded from the stands (too rich though top of third and 4th gears) had the decision to be break it OR the 15 barrier.......with harder starts and more rpm........so 6800rpm changes provided a 15.77 @ 83.8 MPH. that was good enough for a 1776cc, standard gearbox, full weight 67 complete with roof racks, spare tyre, jack and 1/2 a tank of fuel

........next day we still had to get it home, so loaded up my pair of co-pilots and 100kg of spares and running up the freeway to Hexham in the midday heat @ 3900rpm, used all of 15 litres of fuel.

ya gotta be happy with that!!

nice to meet and catch up with plenty of familiar faces and a few new ones too!

good weekend road trip with the family and some really cool fello VW nuts!

WOW!!!

Thanks for posting up all the great pics. You just don't get to see much when your actually racing, so I'm sure alot of the entrants will appreciate seeing them.

Looks like it was an awesome & very successful VW drag meet & weekend in general, with a few people running PB'c etc.

I suppose thats the advantage of running at a properly prep'd 'international' track.

Even though I wasn't there, you've got to take your hat off for Craig H for organizing an event like this & all the volunteers who come along to help out with all the other odds & ends of the event which get the majority of the time are overlooked, but all together make for a great show/meet/event.

Great stuff.

Would of liked to see a couple more pics of the waterpumpers, but this is a aircooled forum after all.

Maybe next year if its a 2 day event, I might come up for a look/race. If I ever decided to even make a start on my mk1.

We finally got the car to the track after a week of long hours, especially the 2am Saturday Morning, with Mike doing the Wheel Alignment and Shane making the last two Brackets to hold the Engine Lid on. A great big thanks to Mike & Shane and the other CBB Racers, Darren, Chris, Alan and the legend Henry, for all your support and guidance on the day.

My first run I ran a 16 as was just getting a feel of the car, my best run was 13.227 with the Rev Limiter set at 6000rpm.
The car ran exceptionally straight and didn't miss a beat, more time on the track will see this car improve.
A special thanks to Mike for his skill and engineering in setting up this car, I think that the people that did look at the engine set up would agree with me, its a pity others didn't.

A big thanks to the Wives for all the Cakes and the food that kept us all topped up for the day

Thanks Craig for a great event and I look forward in running at Warwick.

Actually, talking about water pumpers, I believe there WAS one that qualified under the 11.85 for the quick bracket...then drove home!

Yeah, I heard it ran 11.1 & went home too.

R32 with a R36 twin turbo setup.

May have had DSG clutch issues after that run. But thats speculation though

I know they don't last long when punching that much power through them.

48IDA and Tom's brown bug home safely .
Not a spanner laid on 48IDA all day . 11.58 and 115mph were it's best .
Haven't sat in it since May last year. Five 11 sec passes for weekend . Only 12 was when
Dave B and I wobbled down track and still ran 113mph. Wondered where Dave was going on that run .
Looked out drivers window and he was sideways so I took the only opportunity I will ever get to beat him heads up and nailed it.
Thanks Pete (super car prep) and family , Troy and Tom for the weekend . Of course Craig for the huge effort and the Hobson boys for the cool TopVW plate.
Henry Henry Henry . One-nil 2012.
