my boss has a TDI 08 or 09 passat.

I can vouch for this.

only problem is the fuel savings are offset by the horrendous service and repairs cost of such cars.

hahaha

can't be as bad as my half brother's EA 3.9L with more than 500k on the clock, 2nd engine. its so worn its like 25L/100km on the best of days and thats will new injectors, thermostat and O2 sensor

That is an unfortunate down side to MAF based EFI system. As the engine wears the vacuum signal decreases and fools the ECU that the engine is under greater load thus increasing injector pulse width (aka more fuel) This further washed the cylinders(more blow by and less vac) and fouls the O2 sensor making it a run away situation.

If it were MAF system, it wouldn't be much worse than new. :ninja:

This is not genuine service, done by a good mechanic that is reasonable in price. just the parts and labour on this bs new cars is ridiculous.

in comparison, my car costs about the same or less in maintenance than rego and insurance per year and I can do it myself in my spare time. I service my car 10 times a year at least too and not cheap oil.

to change the timing belt in my boss's car was more than my yearly maintenance costs

I just remembered (my boss) "how often do you have to change your timing belt?"

(me) "what timing belt?" "I got push rods"

That is why You aren't allowed to go over 110KMH Rose

You use too much fuel...:lol:

Just found out why My fuel economy was bad...
found a hole in the tank next to the fuel outlet..
thought the outlet was leaking along the thread..!!
tried everything to seal the thread... lol

I wonder how bad the rust is???

1965 Beetle

6V Electrics
28 pict carb
Bosch ZV/JU4R3 Distributor
stock gear box
6.7L/100km or 14.9km/Litre or 37mpg in the old scale

The above figures are the best I have achieved on the open road. City driving is about 10-11km/Litre
