Anyone who complains about not having rego stickers any more is a whingy old coot.

Troll behaviour is always intended to provoke and offend and is taken as offensive and generally contributes nothing to the discussion.
Having and expressing concern about the broader implications of an ill concieved govt policy change to a larger user-group than ones self is not
usually a whinge, or the exclusive right of 'old' people, its about integrity.
Clown.

It wasn't trolling, just a simple statement of opinion. I should apologise for my use of "old" but I stand by my comment about whingy coots!!
There is no reason for having rego stickers anymore that outweighs the positive aspects of eliminating them. Unnecessary things should be eliminated,
like for example, old people.

Troll / Ar$ehole.... interchangeable terms I guess.
But generally, people who think that just cos their lifestyle doesnt need something then nobody else needs it really cant complain when the govt
brings down a law that discriminates against them as a minority group. And it will happen, guaranteed.
Many comments on this thread are on that basis, you assume that everyone else in Australia is fully up to date with everything techno, and has fully
blown internet 24hrs a day, and has a massive vee dub supply shop with excellent mechanics just around the corner. Well thats crap, and typical of
very young and arrogant, or city-centric people who just havent got out and about much.
Its pretty amusing to have a view into this little fishbowl sometimes I can tell you.

Its a con. The pollies say that it saves money. But the cost was already built into the annual registration.
A major downside to this change is that people will be inadvertantly driving cars that are not registered, and that registration includes third party
personal insurance. So there will be accidents, people will be seriously injured, and there will no insurance cover. Imagine that, you get cleaned
up by someone who has forgotten to pay their rego, you have a serious long term disability, and no-one to pay for it. Never, zilch, nada.
Yes, It's a con.
You don't even need to forget to reregister your car.
A coupla years ago I thought, "hang on, Iv'e just paid the Insurance, how 'bout the rego?
One phonecall later, and the rego nazis said" oh yes, you have been flagged to not recieve any reminders!!!!!!!!!!
But they would not say why this had happened!
This could happen to you! And you will be responsible!
I got away with it.
You may not.
Whenever I reregister a car these days I write the expiry date on a small sticker and put it where I can see it when I drive.
On the upside, the jackboot brigade are no longer looking at cars.
They are sitting in their plodmobiles and waiting for the machine that goes BING to tell them when to go to work!
All you need is a nice shiny current license plate to get by.
All well and good if you manage your own rego, its other people you need to be scared of.

I must confess, the main reason I'm annoyed at this change is because they have already introduced it in WA, and I now have to keep an eye on the
rego for 4 cars and 2 vespa scooters. We dont have periodical rego checks in WA so if one of our cars goes out of rego it will be a pain in the
proverbial.
But my comment about people being inadvertently unregistered in far greater numbers is already happening here. A fact not being reported in the
pollies promo spiel I bet.

Bit boring if you own two of the same cars, same colour etc... but each to their own...
I remember 10 years ago, i legally changed my vwyoot plates from my 75 bay ute to 65 split ute, a mate who is a security guard rang me because he
heard over the radio the cops running my plate and discussing the different car they were on... I guess it is a bit different in a small town, cops
know when i change my undies, as well as rego...

think what a lot of people are forgetting here is that we are relying more and more on police technology or rta technology to keep track of what is
registered and what is not. There is no secondary system to allow me to check if a car is registered. Sure they can put the sticker on the window,
this does not prove its registered... but i would be asking for the reciepts etc for proof.
What if the rta computers are down? what if the cops system is down??
I got caught with this many years ago...
we purchased a car and about a month later i was pulled over by the cops in it for a licence check etc... they checked the rego... told me the car was
unregistered. fined me on the spot $500 and took the plates off the car... i argued that it was registered as it had the sticker on the window and i
had the paperwork from the car yard... Their system showed car was unregistered so bad luck.
I went to Vicroads the next day (that's a story in itself but anyway....) and got a letter stating that the car was in fact registered. Took the
letter and the fine to the cop station to retrieve the plates and the copper just looked at the letter, shrugged and handed me the plates... fiddled
on computer and deleted the fine.. i got a statement from them to say the fine was cancelled etc (no i dont trust them lol)
Turns out their registration system was down at the time they ran the plates of my car. Copper told me that if ANYONE had their plates entered at
that particular time it would've said "unregistered vehicle"
So I think there definitely needs to be a secondary check that we can do that is simple... I think the idea of only getting the label once the payment
is made is probably the better way to go.
see.... air and water do mix

In Queensland you do not get the label until you have paid the registration. The labels are colour coded as well. For any given year it is colour X
and the next year is colour Y etc. The month is a big font so the police can see at a glance if the colour is wrong for the year we are in and, if
the colour is correct, if the month is still OK.
I must say the labels don't bother me and it is an easy way to know if a car is registered or not but Qld is also looking at doing away with them. I
find it a handy reminder to be able to look at the label to know which car is coming up for rego.
