I am very surprised on the condition that BORIS is in. I was expecting rust along the bottom of the boor and the panel behind the door and another
spot they go is the bottom of the panel where the fuel cap is.

| Yes I noticed that too. Good car
Great write up and pics. The royals are lucky
Expanda foam was a late model beetle/type 3 thing...really caused problems in those models, but you've been fairly lucky by the looks.

Great to see the youngest in there having a go too. Not just the safety glasses she should be wearing but you should also have a mask for her. Lead
based paint is nasty stuff!

Princess and I went out and done some more today. We attacked the interior ........HA HA
Have got to love it when a girl has a go and loving it. Nothing better than learning how to swing tools either she might put some males to shame one
day
We are going to rebuild this to not happy the way it has been done. Just the old stezza installer coming out in me
Once we pulled the dash pad off we decided that we will leave it off and go with the older style dash face. It looks alot cleaner
Not to bad for a couple of more hours work

Nice car, looks fairly rust free (for a 30+ y.o car) Good to see that you are getting ALL of the kiddies involved, for the love of GOD remove the
coil over shocks in the front, what was the OG colour of this car? it looks like bright blue at first then Martini Olive green under the dash.
BTW get some on those kiddies!!

Thanks Vido, but it would be kind of weird for us to be calling her Princess? A name would be great.
Definitely can't stress enough the need for safety glasses and masks when rubbing back paint. Lead paint and the fumes/dust it gives off is deadly.
The expanda foam in the C Panel is also toxic. Look after the girls.

Lead was never used in vws paint...I would still where a mask tho, just the paper style disposable one would do do stop the large particles.

Not sure about that, Pyro.
I was told the reason they cannot match the Citrus Red on my '74 Lbug was the unavailiability of the lead based tints.

Yep, same deal with my 74 also. Old paint has some of the nastiest stuff in it and shouldn't be breathed in.

Thanks for all the concerns guys. I worked as a sandblaster for the past 20 year i am fully aware of the ramifications of lead paint as I did
specialize in it for a few years. As for those paper masks you might as well tie a hankie around you face as they are crap. If you are going to spend
money on those sort of things buy proper half face latex negative mask that had triple carbon filtration in it. The dust you see isn't the one that
get you body is more than capable to remove it . Its the dust you can't see that gets you. I in no way condone the way I do things. lead although
dangerous isn't as bad as they make it out to be .You have to be exposed to the stuff a great deal more and in alot more higher parts per million in
an hour than I can every generate buy sanding this car back. Our bodies can expel lead unlike asbestos. As for lead wiping it isn't the lead that get
you it is the fumes that the lead give off while it is heated that will get you over years of high use. MissVdub I understand were you are coming from
as I use to be a OHS rep. I don't know your back ground but as for me I have been in the toxic chemical industry for the most of my working life. I
have work with it and the scar tactics in the industry are good. But they talk about long and high exposure to this types of chemicals. I have far
more chance of lead poisoning renovating an old house that is next to a highway. So don't forget there is a difference between long term and sort
term exposer limits. In saying that yes glass and a mask and ear protection should always be prevelent weather at home or work..................... I
hope I havnt stepped on any toes as I am only the new kid on the block and I am liking the way you guys are already keeping me in check I am open to any suggestions/tips on how to do thing. As one member
has already PM me with some great tips on things to do and get rid of. cheers Vido

hi all i am playing with an idea i am after two rear guards. The ones that I am after are the earlier type beetle. I think they are off around the 67
68 or later the ones with the oval type rear lights. I am trying to do a custom tail light Assembly. The guards I have with the big lights need alot
of work done to them to achieve what I am after. 1 will these guards fit our car and 2 how much is a reasonable price to pay. I would love for these
to be in driving distance to me ( somewhere in Vic would be nice ha ha )

Any guard 68 - 71 will suffice, (bumper slots are different pre 67 and won work).
Here is my 1970 with pre 60 taillights,

Try Hank, across the road fron North Geelong Vets, can't miss it. I drove past on Sunday, four kombi's 1 x kharmann Gaia ..... And that was the
front yard. Wolfsberg can be hellishly expensive.

GARY !!!!!!! sorry guys thanks for you help on that one i will only use him if it is an emergency and that is after a nuclear bomb has hit. Lets just
say I think an ant has more has better ability to communicate and do what you ask than wolfs. There is a reason his business starts with wolves. One
think I will give him he has everything.
One of the problems I had with him i asked him to fix an oil leak first time he slowed it second time made it
worse third time slowed it no stereo no speedo added another oil leak and car wouldn't idle. That was after spending $890 with him. Then he asked for
$560 plus part to service the car.
So I think I will try the others first. Can anyone give me a ball park figure on what they are worth PLEASE

I had a bit of a dig today I took the roof lining out WOW that was a bit of a job.Sore finger tips today ha ha. After I took it all out had a bit of a
think Seeing that we are not replacing the dash pad and going the old steel look. I had a talk to Princess and we are not going to replace the roof
lining as such. We are going to bring it back in time as the old ones were and only put a lining on the outer roof panel. I will put some pics up a
little later so as you can understand what I am trying to achieve.

Ok here are some pics to try and show you what I am going to try and achieve
This red panel will get reupholstered and all else around will get painted the same colour as the outside of the car
This is the roof. Where the red is it will be the only part that will upholstered all else painted
This is the back part. I hope that you guys can see what I am thinking.

Hello again I spent a couple of hours out in the shed today. Trying to re-hone my welding and fabrication skills again. So I started on a couple of
small Holes. The first one took a bit to get the welder right. Once I got that right second one was a dream.
This is what I cut out first.
Made up a piece to go in and my way of holding small bits in
First hole done after burning myself on my palm and on my legs from sitting while I was welding but all good. Nothing like saying welcome back ... Ha
Ha
Time to start on the second hole that was a easy welder set, clean surface piece made lets go
All done not to bad Im happy with that
