Dubs by pub new venue
What about some of the show grounds eg cabooltue show ground. I know some of the show grounds are available to motorhome groups for weekend use. They
would have toilets. Also the idea of a valla in qld there is place called Kennilworth homestead that is only open on public holidays but has acres and
acres of ground to camp on. Maybe owner could be persuaded to open up for a vw weekend if enough interest generated. I have a wiki camping app and if
you bring it up it show's lots of lovely pictures. Very nice.

nah, Redcliffe is too close to home.... (for me anyway)
no really I went to both those shows and although the Pelican Park location is pretty nice I don't reckon it's big enough for the number of VW that
would potentially go to the event. And in Feb the place is packed with picnics. Also I had my racecar on display at the Century of wheels show at
Redcliffe and while there is a bit of shade around the bottom edge of the park it gets bloody hot there and that was only a coupe of weeks ago.
Get the 2 S's right, Shade and Space and you'll get heaps of cars there. Then ensure access is good, food and drink and toilets and you're on a
winner.

Show ground of some sort is a good idea. what about Lakeside?
Had a think about it over the weekend and it hurts me to say it, but as others have said i think the scene has out growen the Ettamogah.
If it is to be held at the Abbey do you plan on holding it exactly where they hold the medievil festival (ST Micheals school ovals) or up near the
Muesum/Church? Up near the church there is not much room you'd be lucky to fit the cars we had on the weekend in there.

Massive flat area for parking, great facilities, easy access / exit on to the Nicklin way and then onto the Bruce Highway for those traveling ...

looking at the other side of the coin the gold coast hasn't been canvassed here at all?
there are plenty of peeps south of the brown water way
oxenford has a great place for a show as well as plenty of other spots near the water
ie: dubs all over sanctuary cove would be sweet especially parked up on the golf course

....so I remember my first VW cruise many years ago (15 or more years ago, so long ago I forget) which started at the woolworths /k mart car park at
Chermside, the cruise to et pub was cool and I think for the 20th it should be back there. But, if it were to end up somewhere a bit further north and
somewhere you could camp for the nite that would be sweet.
I have been out of the scene for a long long time but since coming back I can't believe the growth and numbers of VW owners that go to events like
this....
In a perfect world I would love to see something like an overnite setup with position near a beach or somewhere there is high public visibility. The
potential is huge for swap meet, camping, show n shine and general public seeing what gets hidden away in peoples garages.
I am talking from a different perspective but I was heavily involved in MTB DH racing for a while and we found that consulting and meeting with the
local councillors was beneficial, there was a F@#kload of red tape but in the end if you could present a positive, well justified case and be able to
follow it up it was well recognised.

Well , to keep you all posted ,
In speaking with the relevant authority at the Etta offices this week gone we have a major problem with the Ettamogah in that they will NOT under any
circumstances allow swappers or trade stands at the show if it is held at the Ettamogah Pub .
This is a new rule that they say they have had in place for approx 12 months .
Later this morning i am going up to the pub to count car spaces anyway and try and speak to someone of authority but i am not holding my breath on a
positive outcome for letting the swappers etc in .
Will keep you all posted .

If Dubs can't be at Ettamogah, then perhaps BLB can say "Dubs" has run its course. Start a new show at a new location, rather than try and drag the
idea of "Dubs by the Pub" to a new location all the time. Action Day was a pain when it kept moving around every year, but now it's found a great
location.
I really enjoyed Dubs by the Pub when it was at the Ettamogah Pub, but when it moved it just felt like another show, not "Dubs"
So why don't you find a great location and start a new show

Dubs by the pub was the first vw run I went on probably about 9 years ago now, maybe make this one 'Dubs say bye to the pub', make it a last time
celebration and call it quits. But if the traders cant set up a stall a lot of people will be disapointed including myself.

Well on Wed night at the monthly club meeting as noted in my first post on this thread the decision has been made to now and for as long as possible
have Dubs at the Abbey .
This was discussed at length and not a decision made lightly ,
The main reasoning behind the move to the Abbey over the return to the Etta is that the Etta will not give us any more room , and the swappers are a
problem in there eyes and as such we could end being in this same position next year
On a good note , i have had a full inspection of the Abbey grounds now and i believe the event can only grow at this new venue as we have approx 8
acres of cleared shady nice grassed area to spread out .
The Abbey has a food outlet in this same area that we are talking with at present which can provide food to order and takeaways etc and they will have
no problem catering for our 4 - 500 people as they normally cater for a whopping 35,000 visitors to there annual medeival festival .
Having a low car myself i can also assure people that this is a low car freindly site
There is also nice new large toilet block in the same area .
Unlike the pub we will also be able to invite coffee vans and new vw dealerships as we now have the space plus we would encourage the Aircooled VW
shops to come out and show there wares and services knowing that you won't be jambed in some back corner somewhere or not be able to set up your
display for lack of room .
Not this year but in future years we have already talked about the idea of camping at the event which could open a hole new page for Dubs
So last but not least i welcome all dub drivers new and old to join us at " Dubs at the Abbey " on the 17th Feb 2013

Great news and good to see a decision made with plenty of time to promote the event. Have marked it in the dairy and will definitely be there.
Probably will ruffle some feathers from the sentimental ones but I see this as the start of what can be another major show for the Veedubbers on the
east coast. Well done BLB's!

Great place, everyone will love it.
