OK, Just got home from testing new engine.
It is 2699cc, down from the old engine's 2715,
but it has 14:1 compresion instead of 13:1.
The cam has 265 degrees@.050 on the inlet lobe,
which is smaller than the old cam's 277 degrees, but now have .685" lift at the valve.
These heads have smaller valves(still 52.8!), but flow about 15cfm better(@10") than the old heads.

Because of the smaller cam I reduced startline rpm to 7300....still try to shift at 8000, but it keeps hitting the 8400 limiter.

Put what I thought was a rich pill in there and felt lazy-lean in 4th gear:

Ran 11.19 @ 116.67...LM-1 failed to record the A/F ratio and so went back to old ways and checked a plug.
Oops melted #2 plug....too lean.
Actually felt good to half track at 7.072@96.53, which should have been an 11.0 so yes, lean.
1.543 sixty.

Next run richened it up .002" on main pill, and adjusted high-speed to open a bit later.
Felt way better in burnout and launch, but missed third gear...damn.
Still lean in 4th? Hard to say: still no mixture meter at the end of the run.
11.86@116mph
1.555 sixty.

Just topped it up with fuel,
and backed off the clutch one turn.
Got back in the lanes.

Launched a little crooked, but not enough to require a back off:

11.061@119.4mph
still felt a bit lazy in 4th,(for a 120mph car that is)
but was a rocket to half track:
1.485 sixty
6.993@96.9 at half track.

I think it can run some tens no prob with a bit more fuel,
but it was a very busy T&T,
so ran out of time.
Prob 200 cars I reckon.

Priority now is not tens,
but get it ready for Portland.
May T&T or dyno again before I head off to Portland,
but with the 1/8 mile trans...so no tens yet.

Good start Dave ...
Very close to the other motor straight out of the 'box'.
Certainly will be 10's in it in time.

Yep....good effort Dave. Great way to run an engine in with an 11.19. Car sounded strong every run.
I'll upload the vid of the 1st run tomorrow. Camera died after that.

Still reckon it would look good with that turbo bolted to it......

1.48 sixty !!!!!!!!!

Awesome Dave!
About time you got more comp.
and the smaller duration will bring it up even more.

Good sign, I love it when you need more fuel in the top end, only means one thing!!!!

Now one more thing to add.

Troy tells me it sounds really really tough in the burnout with new donk. Congrats on the shake down of new engine with no drama's. How much more HP you reckon you might have over old engine?? 15-25HP and lots more torque??

I think at best it will be 10 hp.

The truth is I think it will be about the same out right,
but the increases at the 5000 to 7000 area
may be worth a couple of tenths in good air and sticky track.

A couple of the runs on Saturday stumbled
as fuel from the breather hose on the fuel tank spilled down the intake
on the 1-2 shift...or 2-3 shift.
Anyhow, I have used this "roll over valve" on the tank to prevent it happening again.

The arrow points toward the top of the cap where it is tapped out to 7/8 UNF (-10 size)

http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n216/dangerous_05/IMG_0015.jpg

I also ade up a fitting for drain-back on the oil catch can.

http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n216/dangerous_05/IMG_0013.jpg

By being blank on the end,
it wont ever spray upward,
but can still drain back into the case.

Thanks for posting the vid Andrew.

The speed on the first run was actually 116.67,
and melted a plug.
Even with the richer pill and 119.4mph on the last 11.06 run that plug was sill a bit lean.(beginning to droop)
But after all, I had only richened it about .002".

All the maintenance has come up sweet,
so just need to change trannies and get back out there for another test before Portland.(just run it to the limiter in 4th)

Engine sounded stronger each time you added more fuel. Theres a real good 10 sec pass in that engine for shore. You shouldnt have anymore fuel problems with that fitting on the tank cause it really dumped a far bit of fuel out that hose on gear change. Also no more oil all over the engine from the breather tank, wont have to remeber to turn the tap off each time. Good work and good luck for portland....

Hi Westi,
still saving up for a mill.
Unfortunately there was a 4000 dollar price rise!
I will see what is left in the kitty after Portland.
May have to sell an engine.
