I was thinking the side skirts looked like the booms they put down on water to contain a oil spill.

I must admit, it's definitely looking very, chunky?

I'm loving it though, keep the work and pictures coming!

have whale tail, not keen, one like steves maybe but i like the clean lines of a smooth lid :)
considering taking inspritation from rudi / penrose' cars & using something like this...
http://i975.photobucket.com/albums/ae239/STIDUB/wing.jpg
friends car, probably going to borrow it to see if i can commit to the idea or not, hopefully wont need it, certainly dont while its a garage dweller
no neons, but something will be under them, no not leds either
yeah it does look fat, they dont call them fatchicks for nothing, im just feeding mine 3 curvy meals of kfc 7days a week
i like the fact it all sits nicely at the same width, front guards, rear guards, mirrors, and skirts will sit same width, roughly, looks... cleaner in a way, tried the stock running boards, the looked horridly undersized and wouldnt hide my water lines too well.

slightly upset i have to go to the club meeting & get stuff prior organised because im keen to get more done, engine/box mounts coming along but being nice & not doing metalwork after 9ish to keep the neighbours on my side :tu:
more pics later tonight or tomorrow arvo hopefully!

yeah was stirred by sides tonight about the idea, theres not alot i can do to make it look right, the rest of the car is chunky/rounded so whats a guy to do?
1 flat/sharp line amongst it all seems a little odd. the older carerra side panels werent THAT bad, and look ok on the wpvw built green bug with aeros, though i dont really want that either, they have always looked rough to me, mostly from the big fat CARERRA moulded into it. alternative is a pinched in the middle version of whats in the pics, tapering in from the front guard & curving back out to the front edge of the rear guard, ive seen it done on a small scale once, looked ok, will try that next up
sides also mentioned the issue of it all going bye bye if i ever have the opportunity to hit a ripple strip at speed = goodbye 1/2 the panel essentially.

just like everything else i guess, lots of ideas/thoughts/attempts till im happy with the outcome, spent a year tracking those mirrors down remember

now i put this to you... do i work 8hrs @ double time on sat, help my sister move house, or drive jezi for sides while he fiddles with tuning on the go...

tough call hey, for the $$$, the obligation, or the love(the bug not sides)

havn't u finished this car yet?

better hurry up, at this rate they will have stopped making wrx engines & U won't be able to get parts!;)

U will end up having to scour swap meets for that elusive part, just like all the vintage nuts trying to find, then haggle over single port tinware:lol:

Actually... now that I think of it, I have a set of Carrera style skirts that DON'T have Carrera molded into them. From memory they're also fairly sensible size ones.

Possibly consider a trade for, I dunno... say a piece of Ally to re-do my dash ???

Oh - and have you ever noticed how V8Supercars have the fronts of their skirts tucked WAY in ???

http://www.v8supercars.com.au/Portals/v8/img/photoGallery/2011/ev07/fri/8-07-2011_10-40-26_022.jpg

That's partly to try and stop the rumble strip problem... imagine how gooooone that side skirt would be if it was full width at the front. And that's the loaded side... on the unloaded side it can be even worse as the front wheel comes up BEFORE the body has started to react.

btw - realize have almost got you convinced STIDUB, but figure post up anyway for all your devoted fans.

Yes you should!!!!!

Keep it simple, get it done!! Write a big list and work through it.... Pick big jobs when you have lots of time and the little ones in between to keep motivation going.

It's only a waste of time and money UNTIL you wheel it out and get some of the investment back
