Dave Folts sent me some pics of some axle retainer devises he has come up with for use with his axles....
There have been some instances where the uni-joint has failed with his axles, which basically has allowed the wheel, and everything still connected to
it, to move around under the car uncontrolled... This devise maintains a near positive connection to the chassis should a failure occur...
He has offered to send me through a set (minus a few parts I can source here) to try out on the car.
Pretty cool idea I reckon. |

Its so if you brake a axle or uni joint it doesn't drop down , helps keep wheels in up right stance and pointing forward .
All about pulling up on 4wheels .

The slide arrangement is there to allow suspension travel, but gets to the end if a broken inner uni or axle is experienced. I'd say use it if your
using his swing conversion.
As for mounting a kombi box....how long have we got?
Use the std front mount on the berg nose adapter to position the front. the rear has a few compromises to consider. Fit to engine bay, if a priority
will mean offcentre output flanges and visa-versa. Height also depends on engine tin or cv clearance. I'd recommend a mockup with front mount on and
juggle until your at a happy location in the engine bay. The rear mount I use or make is like the design in the pic, but altered to get the trans
where I want it.

Nup.... Picked it up locally for $140!.... It was used as a mock-up rig only.... The dude put a RCL poly seat in the FJ instead!!!
Now I need to figure out the mounting of it.... Waiting for Morgan to figure that one out, so I can copy him!

I have never purchased anything from them but know they have some reasonable prices on quality roll cages and parts. My friend John Toomey and I
purchased a tubing bender and notcher . We buy tubing in 20 ft pieces and build our own cages because it is something we can and like doing. If you
would like some ideas I will email you some pics or post them here. My new chassis will be very simular to Johns but I will be using a torsion
housing instead of ladder bars. Mike McCarthy

Have a look at troys build on the tube car mate. He made the mounts and fitted a Kirkey seat in the tube car.

Simon, the RLR mount is another way to go, also comes with a back support to mount off the cage, seat can go back and forth a bit too for adjustment.
Cheers, Greg

I have looked at building my own cage, but the prices for the cage including delivery from Carl is cheaper than buying the materials here!... But I
will still need to modified it a little when it arrives.... Gonna get my brother to TIG it all up for me, which will also save me a few bob...
And after all that, any suggestions on how to improve the design is always greatful.... How Troy and Brad have improved on Dave's tube car has been a
great source of info, as has Frosty's project.... My car is going to be a lot like Morgans of course... With a narrowed and raised torsion housing,
so any details on how to do this would be awesome!
How Chris Bolton and Ben Ford have built their cages, especially the main hoop is very interesting.... I remember that Chris said it gave him more
shoulder/elbow room, which has to be a good thing.
And cheers for that seat mount Greg... Appreciate that.

No worries, also the narrowed and raised torsion housing is surprisingly easy to do once you get into it.

Troy drilled and tapped a grease nipple into his Spring plate retainers for the Type 3 So we can grease them. Bit fiddly but saves the bush from
getting flogged!! think he cut a scroll into the bush as well.

Car ran loads better..... No ignition or fuel problems now..... But.... Too much boost (20psi), too many revs (7k!) and way too much wheel spin in all
gears!!!!!
