Hopefully you can get them to turn up when they come to connect your line.

I waited all day to get a new line put into our house and when I rang them at 4:30 to ask where they were, I got told they were to busy to do it that day and I would have to rebook?????

After booking it 4 weeks in advance for an AM installation?????

Needless to say the Ombudsman heard about this one, and the company offered all sorts of sorry's, but I stuck to my guns and made it quite clear it was not acceptable and went to the opposition.

Nah
doubt I'll get far with the opposition at this stage. They had to put a new pit in for me as there was never a line to this place put in. Now get this, picture a 60/30 degree set square, thats roughly my house block (strange shape I know). The long diagonal side is my back fence, the shortest side runs away from the road to the back corner and the middle length runs parallel to the road. Put my house down in the area of the 90 degree bend, and guess where they put the pit?? yeap, way up the tip near where the 30 degree bend would be, the furthest point away from my house and now I have to pay to get a lead in line put in from the pit to the house.:alien
Any wonder I am looking at VOIP when I get connected???:duh

Well when telstra put the phone lines here they ran them right along my fence line. We new they were there, but I thought they were supposed to be 600mm down. Needless to say we dug them up in 3 places. my only defense was that they were only 400mm down and the proof was there to see. Lucky it didn't cost me. Although they tried to charge me but you can't dispute the facts....or stupidity.

Got a letter from the council about my garage building permit today. They want some more details, more measurments, this, that, blah blah. 8 items on the list. I submitted my plans with even more detail than my friend who lives only a kay away and same council. His was ok first time a couple of years ago, and mine is sooooo not good enough????

Oh well just another setback in the plans to build the 6 car garage.

maybe thats the issue, the fact its a 6 car garage.
maybe they're playing hard ball because they think you might run a business out of there.
Have seen it happen before with councils.

Yeah
tried to knock off early but got caught up and held up $2.63, who was waiting at my place with osama to put some new door rubbers in (and in the end 'we' didn't put them in, I just gave them to her and she will put them in for me... isn't she nice :))
I love my council,
they have said I can't build/dig near the sewage tank drainage pipe system but haven't got a diagram showing where they actually are. They apparently agreed with the plumber to change the design, then didn't ask for a new drawing........ Can't wait till I put in plans for bathrooms and another garage!!!

And I just found the concrete floor question. It was Gibbo, not Helbus!! I got confused...... Kafer even chipped in with an answer for him. Sounds like a light acid wash (1 part acid:4 part water) followed by painting!!

I spoke to the council and out of the 8 items in regards to the garage permit, 7 are minor and simple. They said they would have not worried about them, and just written them in as conditions of the permit, except for the last item, No. 8.

I have to have two side and a centre I beam in the middle of the garage. Not too big a problem, it gives the engine block n tackle somwhere to hang off and slide along.

I do a lot of Old Holdens too, so the engine lift will be a top idea. Adds a bit to the cost factor though.

Owner builder, building in weatherboard to match the house. :)

Spoke to a structural engineer and faxed the plans and he said upon preliminary viewing of the plans they look ok and would not need the lateral bracing in the middle, and the ply on the sides of the front opening would be suitable. They will run it through their test computer program and write up a report. Done.

did you do up the plans or get them from somewhere else? Steel framed and timber clad or timber all through?

I drew up the plans copied exact design from a garage same size built three years ago in the same council.

All timber.

Not bad,
I keep thinking that it would be better to build your own than one of the kit ones that are out there. I swear there couldn't be $6000 worth of material in a twin car garage!! thats without the slab. Now to find a shed design up here that has passed :)

This will be a 13 x 7 metre and I am hoping to build it for under $10k (including slab), which we got extra on the home loan I have already used up a tenth of that just getting permits. So all I have to show so far is 4 pegs in the ground and 4 second hand sash windows.

Lol,
I have just started opening up the codes and design tables. Damn its been ages since I have doen this sort of thing!! I thing mine would be around 9 x 6 m, with about half of that as open carport, the other half as shed (I already have a steel double garage to go with that.)
