You dont need CNC gear to make wheel centres.
Anyone with a pair of dividers and a centre punch can do that.
Helps having a digital readout and a milling machine though!
The Flow test of the fuel system results?
Nothing exciting to report really.
Because I had to go SO much richer mixtures at Portland,
the system pressure was higher,
and this made the "high speed" open way too soon.
So I have selected a variety of "highspeed" settings to match the various pills.
Next stop: dyno....or just to warwick if time is tight.

Nothing ground breaking from the dyno testing.
Initial testing with the long ram tubes and high nozzles proved to be very nasty with the power curve being very(199hp) low and "all over" by about
7000.
Trying to lean it off lost power and torched a plug.
So I cut my losses, shortened the two long ones, and moved the nozzles back down low.
With the base line tuneup back in there,(as flowed on the mill),
it came back with about 219hp.
Best it got was 220.4 with final tweaking of both main and high speed adjustments.

That's a shame Dave. You don't know until you try.
At least you have a good baseline anyway for future mods.

With that final tune it pulled all the way to the 8400 limiter (scale on sheet not correct),
and this engine combo has much more torque, despite being a little low on outright power.
...although that is the same peak power as it had when it ran 11.00@121.46.
The rpm for the new graphs need to be shifted right, to align with the 8400 rev limiter, like the old graph from 2008.

Last time the car had the 1/4 mile trans fitted. (8400=122.7mph)
this time it was 1/8 mile ratios, (8400=98.4mph),
but he tried to match up the rpm graph, but it is not quite right.
The power looks to be above 210 all the way from about 6300.
...that level power line make for fast times I hope,
mph prob not much better.

Back home from Warwick, great event, as usual, from Craig and his crew and all the other racers and fans.
No fantastic wins for me but I had a ball, cane-ing the crap out of my Volksy.
Left the tune exactly as it ran from the dyno on Wednesday,
and only adjusted the wheely bars on Sunday morning, to settle down some out of control launches from Saturday.
ETs:
6.73 (bogus I reckon judjing by the 1.12 sixty foot time).
7.27 out of shape...had to lift off the throttle for a second.
7.06
7.34 whoops nearly hit the tree!
7.00 see 2:12 mins in : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6OMxAD8IMtM
Thats the 8400 limiter at the end of the run.
7.19 big wheely so short shift and lazy into 2nd gear.
7.09 dial in on Sunday
7.10
7.01 break out but win.
6.96 break out and lose to rohan.
Here is the 7.06:

All in All, I was happy with the engine.
Despite having the same, or less power than the old combo,
the combination of parts proved to be slightly faster than last year....both in ET and MPH.
Very happy with the 6.96 considering the high altitude.
My guess is it probably weighs about 5kgs heavier too,
with the dual spring plates and rusty, lard-arsed driver.

Actually over the corse of the week end there were a few of those, "WORLDS BEST SIXTY FOOT TIMES",
it will be interesting to see who owns up to them.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S3PNZ0AW20s
I think the startline beam may have been faulty, and it may have cost a few some wins, with break outs and such
but it was all a good, fun week end either way.

A true sportsman and congratulations for it. It is just ashame there are not more people like this. Some out there would claim a 'bogus' time as
their own and then tell the world how good they are.
This may sould like a very dumb question Mr Butler. But do you run your ram tudes at all the same length?

Thanks for the kind words guys.
Yes nice to finally meet you too Mick.
That car of yours is absolutely beautiful in the flesh.
Nice fast and consistent times in the 8's too!
Good to see you get to the finals.
Hi Triple X,
I ended up using all the same length,(14" to the valve), because on the dyno last Wednesday, the odd length ones did not have the result I had
imagined.
I think there may be something to try in that area,
but it all costs dyno time and the true gains are probably not worth the effort.

Hi dave, awesome weekend!!! 6.96 with a 1.454 60ft the best way to break out, better then a trophy (takes balls not to hit the brakes)
A 1/4mile run would be good to see soon.
pity about the wheeli bars getting caught up, should be fixable yeah?

Hi Aaron, yeah wheely bars should be a straight forward fix.
The flat on the bottom bars is just 50x6 aluminium,
and the top tubes are 1.125 x .060" WALL TUBE.
That "special metals" mob that advertises in VWMA have great service and price,
so I might order some tube from them.
They did great service when I ordered my push rod material.
