Hi
Bit of wheel hop, no tyre warming or burnouts allowed because it could damage the landing strip

you could get one drive shaft special make to be a heap thinker, like 50% thicker and that should stop wheel hop.
Thats all anti wheel hop kits for other high powered RWD cars are, one standard thickness and one about 50% thicker. It inhibits drivtrain harmonics
that creates wheel hop by having different resonance on each axle.

More likely to be shock absorbers....or engine mounts.

Great result Steve.
I think you'll need to upgrade your HUD as it maxes out in the 170ish km/h range :smile grin:

Hi
The motor and trans are well mounted now, maybe I should try some harder mounts, I was leaving the line close to limiter.
Its Polaris HUD I should complain to them, on the first run I was a bit disappointed thinking that I hadn't cracked the 200 mark

yes, you should know of all people its simple physics, everything in
the world has resonance and harmonics of different orders, vibrations, juddering, hopping... no different.
have you not seen how well anti hop axle work? your missing out man.
here is one example.

yes, they tend to exacerbate the natural bounce a lot if they aren't in good order.
In my experience you can only reduce amplitude/change frequency them with mounting everything solid, to the point of not really noticing much but
still exists regardless.
I found stiffer shocker increase the frequency of the hop but reduced amplitude which is good.

Yeah, I of all people should know. Interestingly, my 190kw car does not suffer from axle hop and it has the same thickness axles on the left as on the
right.
Perhaps you could quote your source? I can only find articles discussing shock absorbers, mounts, tyre sidewalls etc. Does the different axle thing
also work on solid rear axles, like VK Commodores?

I think the IRS commodore guys use asymmetrical axles to stop tramp. As in the axles are NOT round.

I love some of the stuff you read on forums. Axles are not round, tramp is caused by harmonics. Wow.
Must tell those top fuel guys some of these tricks so they can reliably get 8000hp to the ground. Damn tyre shake!
Why don]t they just read the forums?
Steve, how]s the E85 flexfuel install and tune going?

Hi Todd
I'm still waiting for the cams from Tomei, I have the flex fuel stuff already, fitting up the sensor and gauge soon.
I have to wait for the cams as I want to have both fitted before tuning.
They way things will work out time wise I might not get a chance to fit them until late March, I've entered the VW drags in Sydney and Power Cruise,
there's a club cruise in between so not enough time to have the car off the road.
I'm keen to see what the motor will produce on cams and 98 plus what it will do E85

Actually they are asymmetric as is one side is much thicker.
There are kits available for VE commodore onward which are same as chev CTS-V shafts as they were developed for them 1st in the states as it is an
incurable harmonic in that model.
The use of asymmetric shafts is now common place in OEM AWD and RWD ( mostly RWD) designs where suspension and mounting does not solve the oscillation
that is wheel hop.
If it can't be fixed with mounts and suspension bushes, asymmetric shafts are always a great option. certainly cheaper than blowing transmissions up
and cracking metal in places.

Yup, resonant frequencies and sympathetic harmonics are very destructive in all walks of engineering. Just ask the poor bugger who designed the
millenium walkway in London. Poor sod lost his career over that one.

Except wheel hop is actually caused by the loading and unloading of the tyre and its contact patch with the road and has nothing to do with harmonics.
