Hey mate!
Yeah, the one piece window kit has definitely become a bit of a pain.
We're going to do it right, so the plan is to actually split the door and add in some more metal to the door frame so that the felt strip fits
perfectly.
Then comes the whole issue of getting the window to go up and down smoothly.
Either we find dual lift regulators or we use a different type of lift mechanism altogether.
However, we didn't have much luck on Saturday with using a different window mechanism.
Was going to adapt a Mercedes 190e electronic window system but because the doors on a beetle are so skinny, it just wasn't going to fit.
So looking for alternatives now while waiting for the rest of the parts to arrive.

Trust me Heath, I really am!
I have taken in everything so far, from bolt torque to how to use an angle grinder.
I guess, thanks to Dave, I have been exposed to things I'd never be exposed to before when it comes to DIY car stuff.
I am very grateful for the opportunity too, he's definitely helped me a huge amount and I don't think I'd ever be able to thank him enough!
As for the current position that I am in with Zelda, I have rebuilt one wheel completely and still have three to go.
From sanding back the lips to getting them back together, I'm doing it all.
Brakes should arrive next week some time from George at ClassicVeeDub and then I'll be taking them down to a place on South Road to see if I can get
them drilled.
So hopefully by next weekend, I'll be running on some very nice looking BBS RS's...

Great to see the progress Seb. I hope the brakes do actually arrive 'next Tuesday or Wednesday mate', but have another job lined up as a fall back
.... experience would lead me to think you'll need it!!!
I was going to fit adjustable struts and inserts after they arrived 'next Tuesday or Wednesday mate' and that is getting on to about 3-4 months ago
now!!!!

Yeah, will definitely have something else lined up to do next weekend, but really, I just want the wheels to be on and to be done with them.
Don't have much else to do, can't really do body work until the weather is somewhat nicer and it isn't freezing cold outside.
I do need to organise quite a bit though, especially when it comes to the interior. Still need to finish the dash but we'll see what happens with
that.
Might setup the electronic ignition or something, Zelda is starting to struggle to turn over in the cold morning, I guess points aren't very happy
with the weather.
Maybe going electronic ignition will help, maybe not, guess we'll see when I've got it all setup and what not. Still need to figure out how to and
where I am going to mount the coil pack, I don't like shit in the engine bay that just looks out of place, and that's what the coil pack will look
like unfortunately.
If I had a type three or a bus, you can hide it easily. But beetle, not so much. Everything is visible when you open the rear, and everyone judges on
how neat your engine is.
Well, I know that's what I do...

I'm still very much a novice but I reckon I've recently seen a photo of an engine bay in which they had mounted the coil on the front of the fan
shroud. It'd be a shit to get to and you'd likely have to install it with the engine disengaged at a minimum, but would tidy it up a bit. No idea
what problems it might cause or whether I just imagined it!!!!

I'm a bit with Seb on this one.
Though your setup looks fantastic and incredibly neat. I've had coils crack the mounts off the fanhousing twice now. Mine is an offroad car so it
sees more vibration, but even on a street car it will eventually happen.
I have my coil mounted on the firewall on the LHS. You can still get to it between the left carby and the fanhousing, though it's become a little
more cramped after I changed to an airbox.
Have you thought about mounting it in the rear parcel tray Seb?

Two more tomorrow, then wrapped.
Blank discs are coming from Wassim from Vollks.
Trying to find blank drums but can't, seems everyone is out of stock...
Will get discs drilled and studded next week hopefully.

Alrighty, after many hours of sanding and polishing the wheels, all four of them, are finished.
Have called up a tire place and they're going to call me Monday morning with a quote for a set of Falken 205/40/r16's. Starting to get excited too,
as the blank discs should be here Monday as well.

It's been a while guys!
Haven't been up to anything as I've been in America with work for the past two weeks and will be here for another two weeks.
Going to try and grab some stuff from CIP1 while I'm over here and just stuff it into my luggage, cheap postage for the win!
Until then, I'll keep stalking everyone's build threads while I'm over here.

Just a quick update.
I'm still in the US of A. Just a little closer to home now than I was before. Was in Tampa, Florida but am now in Santa Monica, California.
Will be back in Adelaide on the 4th of September and then will get back into Zelda stuff. Hopefully will have the wheels mounted up and will have
Zelda rolling with new shoes as soon as possible.
Still need to sort out some rear drum brakes though, have got blank ones waiting at home that I need to get machined. Will hopefully be all systems go
when I get back home though, I just want to roll on my BBS's!

Hit a dead end with the brakes that I had.
They had the webbing in them and are not good when wanting strength if you're re-drilling them.
So, doing things right the first time, I decided to hit up Pete at Airkewld and get myself a set of his discs and drums. Just waiting for word that
they are on the way to my place now.
Getting all the wheels wrapped tomorrow as they are all sealed up and waiting. Will post some photos when I have them all wrapped and will take some
mock up photos of the fronts as soon as possible. Going 205/45/16's all around. Concerned about turning circle, need to make some customisations to
where the brake lines run at the front and the rear trailing arm, so we'll see how it all goes.
This will all happen to Zelda's current pan in preparation for the new one. So excited to get the wheels on and rolling around on them. Soon!

Wheels have been wrapped.
Minor stretch. Measured them up against my current wheel and tyre combination. These actually have a smaller rolling diameter which is great, not
going to rub on the guards!
Waiting on discs and drums from Airkewld. I know one set has been sent already.

Thanks H!
I'll have some photos up soon, we have to modify the front brake line mounts so that the tyre doesn't get cut up, but other than that they should
fit nicely.
The brakes are on the way to Adelaide, they have lest America and should be here soon, so I'm very excited. Would be awesome if they come this week
and that means next weekend everything can hopefully get done.
Can't wait to get some more photos of Zelda. We're finally going to see some good weather again, which means photo opportunities.
I do, however, need to give getting the dents out of the roof another shot and I might even spray the front bonnet to at least be white.
We will see what the future holds!

Front discs arrived today from Airkewld, hopefully the rear drums aren't too far away.
It wouldn't be me if I didn't run into another problem. The wheel nuts that I have from my BBS are 12mmx1.25, but the studs on the brakes are 14mm.
So need to get some 14mmx1.25 before I can mount them.
Hopefully fitting them on Sunday, but we will see.
Plan is to get the electronic ignition in this weekend too, and maybe even give the bonnet some love so that Zelda doesn't stand out so much for the
bad things, but for the wheels.
Will post some photos as I have them.
