Just check they are actually 14x1.25, I seem to remember mine being 14x1.5, but I could be wrong.
FYI the last set I got (yonks ago) came from Performance wheels who are over your way, http://www.performancewheels.com.au/Common/Show_Contact_Details.asp?Type=Cont...

Seb just make sure the rims fit on the 14mm studs ok.
BBS are usually ok to clear 14mm but some other brands are only clearanced for 12mm.
Like Cam I would have thought it would be 1.5 pitch as well.
M14x1.25 is an odd size, does exist but not a common one.

Hey Cam,
The ones I have are 12mmx1.25, so I would assume I'd need 14mmx1.25 but I could be very wrong... Might be, like you said, 14mmx1.5, I might have to
go to the place you mentioned tomorrow and take a wheel and the disc with me.
Joel,
The studs fit fine through the holes in the BBS, that's how I knew I had wrong lock nuts, because when test fitting they didn't fit.
Will see what happens!

Hang on a sec, you said you had studs on the brakes. That might mean that you have had studs added in which case they could be anything.
Std VW is wheel bolts that run 14x1.5 on later bugs. But if you had yours re-drilled to a new stud pattern, who knows what that did unless you
specified exactly what you wanted. If you got them from the US, they could even be imperial.....

Cam,
They're from Airkewld and Pete states in his video in regards to the BAD Series Billet Rotors that they're 14mm studs.
They're a new bolt pattern too, 5x114.3 so means I can run any wheel I want, custom make them and what not.
A big plus to going with Airkewld Rotors is that I can buy new hubs for them and change the PCD whenever I want.
Can't do that to the drums though, unfortunately...

Have fitted the rotors and wheels. The rotors came up mint, and had to do some fancy stuff to get the actual wheels to seat properly, but once that
was all done and the brake hose mount was modified, we took her for a spin. Here we found that the passenger side of Zelda has had a hit in her past
life, as the actual wheel itself sits forward in the guard.
So we had to roll the guards to get everything clearing as needed!
Some images, will get some of the wheels on tomorrow.

I'm a little worried, but we rolled the guards to accommodate for the damage.
It's just the passenger side that's a little dodgy, but I fix.
Once I get back from the America's all systems will be a go on the new Zelda.
For now, I'll try and get as much done to the current Zelda as possible so I can enjoy her for a bit before I leave.

Here we go, wheel pictures.
Driver's side. As you can see, the lip of the guard was actually lined with bog, therefore when rolling the guards we cracked it off. Wonderful!
Passenger's side. Same on this side too, there was bog lining the guard's lip and when we rolled it, cracks formed.
Never heard of someone having to roll their guards to fit wheels, but we did. We also had to modify the brake hose bracket to make sure it didn't cut
up the tire.
But, we have full lock both sides without any rubbing until it hits the sway bar.

Umm..... pretty common with VW's
As guards are of dubious quality and fit after 30 or 40 years and the number of poor off set wheels that were fitted
As for your wheels - they look great.
I was concerned that the rim was going to stick out but the tyre fitment is good

Sander,
Thanks man, been a long wait to get them on that is for sure!
Will get more photos when the back ones are on.
Bizarre,
I just have never heard of it personally, but I'm glad that I'm not the only one then!
I wanted the rim to poke out from the guard, something different, but happy where they are right now.
Just need to get the back ones on now and see how that goes.

I went with Airkewld brakes as they were actually cheaper than Sherman, and that was shipped to my door.
Plus, I have a funny feeling that these are a better build quality too, just saying...
More to come. Drums still haven't arrived, but I reckon they'll come tomorrow.

Little mishap, means big update for you guys!
I took Zelda away for the weekend last weekend, went to Stansbury on the Yorke Peninsular.
Was beautiful, sat on 110km/h the whole way and she had enough grunt up the top to pass a few slower cars with ease.
But, I guess the long trip took it's toll. Fan belt decided to shred itself on Tuesday morning when I started her up.
My guess is, because it never fitted /perfectly/ that it got very warm on the long trips, and then when it cooled down it became very brittle.
Therefore, starting it back up, a brittle belt means a broken belt. One thing I have learnt from all of this, always have spare belts and the tools to
fix if this ever happens.
Oh, the drums came. They need to be machined out for the 14mm studs that were provided.
That is hopefully being done today, then tomorrow morning I'll pick them up, give them a couple of licks of paint to stop rusting and then put them
on Zelda.
That means wheels should be on by tomorrow night, which means Zelda will have her suspension setup done.
I should mention. Getting 16x7.5j wheels under the front of a 1303 with only minor modifications needed to the position of the brake hose mount is a
decent feat. Getting them under the rear will need a lot more modifying. We have to trim the tower arm where the bump stop hits. I've decided I'm
happy with the stance of Zelda, if anything I would lower the rear a tiny bit to just match the front, but I saw a photo of Zelda from behind and when
under load, the rear comes down quite a bit.
I'll definitely be getting some photos up when the rears are done. Also, thinking I might grab a roof rack to just cover up the roof damage.

As long as the offset is ok you should be fine at the back, at worst you may have to grind a bit off the upper bump stop plate and spin the spring
plate bolts around.
I've had 18x8 under mine and Pauls old Lbug is running 17x9s with stock guards too with no clearance issues.
Those front brakes are screaming out for some upgraded calipers, that's not part of the kit?

Rears cleared everything fine.
No need to trim anything, or even flip the spring plate bolts around.
Joel, the brakes will definitely be getting some upgraded calipers in the coming weeks.
Now focusing on the other body and building up an engine.
Meanwhile, froth session.
Going out with mates tonight for a car wash session, will hopefully get some sweet photos tonight and will upload them.
In all honesty, I think the rear needs to come down a bit to match the front. I like where the front sits (albeit causing a bit of scraping), but I
like it quite a bit.
Final wheel specs.

Thanks mate!
I think just dropping the rear to match the front would look perfect, and still drivable. We will see!
Have a whole new car I'm building up, got big plans for it too!

Some photos from last nights car wash, cruise and car park life.
Photo with one of my mates KE70. Very straight KE70.
Third time Zelda has been washed since I took ownership of it.
Nice car park photo. Everyone needs a good one.
Got quite a bit done today as well.
Got what was needed for the dash, just need some expandable foam and a lot of hours.
Pulled apart my previous crank case, in very good condition. Just need to tunnel bore it and then bore out to necessary size for upgraded pistons.
All in due time.

Yeah, I guess it looked lower due to the higher profile tires that were previously on the old hotwires. Now there is too much fender to tire gap.
All in due time will it come down a bit.
At the moment we're going to start on body work. Thanks to the lovely weather of late we should be able to get a lot done in the coming month or two.
I hope anyway!

Wheels looking pr0n there Seb
Just need to drop that back one spline and grab a few cans of aussie export white or black and hit that bonnet.
You've probably also noticed with those tyres being over 2" smaller than stock your speedo will be greatly exaggerated.

Thanks Joel!
Yeah, I think the plan is to drop it when the body is off and we're doing pan halves. We will see what happens!
As for the bonnet, I kinda like it how it is at the moment, new body is definitely more what I'm focused on getting done.
Actually, that was one thing I was going to comment on but forgot about. Grabbed my GPS speedometer and compared the pair. The GPS speedo reads to the
kilometer in comparison to my speedometer. Which means no need to worry!
This means that at some point the speedo was modified for the 14 inch hotwires. Or there is just some slack in the cable. Either way, it explains why
I got a speeding fine the other day on the old wheels.

A small update to say the least.
My windscreen wipers now match again. Chopped up the wiper arm I had and welded back on the blade/arm that Joel sent me.
All painted and now that's all on and looking shmick.
I had a bad leak in the left rear wheel Saturday night. Tyre needed to come off and needed to reseal the wheel.
Have to put that back on tonight and then fix up my number plate light. Then comes a little photoshoot/video.
Got a bit more done with the custom dash we're building, but hopefully can spend some time on Saturday doing some body work.
Unfortunately I won't have the body work done before I wanted as I'm being shipped back over to Florida for three months on the 28th.
This brings up a nice little opportunity though, if anyone needs anything from the states and only wants to pay a fraction of the shipping, hit me up
via PM and we'll work something out.
Hopefully I'll have a couple of photos and a video for you guys in the coming days/weeks.
