how come your putting more weight in.are you trying to run 11.00 again.
as always nicely made and mounted, but it does look like an atempt to slow you down to stop that extra fee for the licence.

Once the alternator is in, that is it for added weight.
It can only get lighter from now on....
Just noticed the shift light is on in that last picture.
That is 8000 rpm only car length off the line(clutch slip).
Can hear the limiter in the vid too.(8400)

Hey dude,
one big red wire to the battery + (on the starter),
one wire goes to a +12 volt source, (somewherewithin the system but not the battery best)
and the other wire to a green light to excite the whole deal.(power side of light from + on iginition switch.
No more charging up after day one of a two day event,(I hope).
It is a 40 amp alternator.

All "up and running" for Gunnedah next week end:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8QWqbkcN41Q
Only glitch was the pilot light I got from super cheap is polarity sensitive
and so had to swap the connections to get the lght to come on.
I found this all before initial start up.(good old multi meter!)
Pulley ratio drives the alternator at maximum of 10,000 rpm when engine is at 8400 limit.
Most alternators I found specs for, did not like any more than 14000,
and with this ratio the light goes out at around 900 rpm.(engine idles at 2000 once all cylinders running).

Here are some details of the wires.
I fitted a fuse to the primary large 12 volt wire that went from the stud/nut teminal on the back of the alternator
to the +ve on the starter,(which goes straight to the battery +ve).
That is the thick orange wire and fuse, which splices into a fat red one.(blue arrow in pic below).

The yellow wire connects to the "L" on the alternator,
and the pilot light on the dashboard.(green arrow above).
The thin red wire connects to the "R" on the alternator,
and goes up to the front, where I found a 12 Volt source at the fuse box.
Tried to take a pic from inside the enine bat showig the back of the alternator:

The pilot light gets a 12 volt supply from the ignition switch: red wire from the ignition switch.
(yellow wire is the one from the back from the back).

Yeah, not sure whay that was.
Probably related to the orginal title that was the numbers off my camera,
and the "tags" and "categories" it originally had when uploaded.(since edited).

Gunnedah was a fun event.
The track locals were very friendly,
and a special thanks must to Ross and Pauline Freestone for their hospitality,
and to Ross' mate, and regular crew guy, Gary for his help on the day.
The track surface was a challenge to take off from,
with no prep other than 'past rubber'.
But this is why i like to experiment with different conditions.
You work with the cards you are dealt.
In the end, a combination of
tyre pressure,
launch rpm,
wheely bar settings,
and driving style,
all culminated in times equal to my best.

Runs:
7.285@94.66 (1.648 sixty with wheel spin).
6.931@96.96 (1.406 sixty was probably bogus given the wheel spin). best ever 1/8 mile time.
7.174@ 96.33 (1.585 sixty felt better)
7.035@97.09 good clean run using lower tyre pressure and dropped start rpm down from 7100 to 6000.(1.517 sixty)
Sunday:
7.310@94.56 alwys get the crap run out of the way first thing in the morning.
7.087@96.62 (1.523 sixty) that's better.(pumped the tyres up to 15psi and raised the wheely bars as high as they'd go)
7.001@97.53 (1.468 sixty) beet 500 cu in V8 falcon(just-hehe).(tyres at about 13.5)
6.949@97.32 (1.409 sixty) broke out on 7.05 dial in...best sixty foot since when I was supercharged.
(very close to my previous best 1/8 mile time when I ran the Ten, of 6.941)

Oh yeah,
alternator worked fine and belt stayed on, and tight, all week end.
Battery voltage this morning was still above 13 volts, (cold morning)
when normally it would be below 12 volts after that many runs.
Does not seem to have cost much in power either.

All quiet here.
I have a broken engine mount to fix up,
but the new heads will be the next engine plan.
I still have many hours left to complete on them,
plus new pistons and all the valve train parts to buy.
So it may not be until next year.
