Make sure that all specs of motors with their hp outputs are posted for those of us that can't make it.
I want to see a stock stroke engine with 100hp at the wheels!!

Troy Finucane S Bug 1916 91.8@5800

Big thumbs up to Dave! What a sweet sounding and running car! Even got a round of applause!

All runs done in Shootout mode on a new dyno freshly calibrated. Even had a Dyno Dynamics rep lending a hand.

Much thanks to Mike and CBB for hosting the day. They did the price right for us Veedubbers and looked after everyone with everyone who wanted another shot at the rollers getting one. Cars from a wide variety of builders and shops turned up showing that the dyno day was an event for owners, regardless of who built the engine.

Lookout for another one when the new shop opens next year!

Thanks to everyone who came along, not just those who went on the rollers but those who came to watch. It was an excellent social day as well as a a top automotive extravaganza!

I'm sure everyone's ears are beginning to unblock by now from the drag car going up for a run...

Pics soon.

I had a great day catching up with people and seeing some of these rides, I hear about, in action:thumb

Scored a couple of nice exterior door handles for Bel as well...:kiss

There was an amazing turnout of people and cars....

Internet Cafe across the road from where I'm staying...couldn't help myself...on the way to find food:)

He did two runs with it, as its still being set up it was running lean and didn't wan't to do any damage, but we still saw near 200 ponnies and the methonol fumes to go with it.

Hey Dave why didn't you bring the smoothy out to play

Since the accelerator pedal wasn't going to play properly and open up the carbs I wasn't gonna miss a run on the rollers...

It might have needed a helping hand but at least the rollers were moving!

And before anyone raises the safety issue the occupant IS wearing a 5 point harness!

Fantastic turn out! From what I remember I think I was having fun? Looks like it's back to some tuning on the Webers, down about 6.5 from the last run. Running way lean run.
Thanks Dave, yeah the noise of the drag car run was enough for me and my head so I slinked off home for a kip. They don't call those drinks "brain tumors" for nothing I guess.

"Except for a laugh", that's why I put the camper on and got an awesome 49.8!! Although the chart did indicate some tuning work on the Webers is required but I had a fun day anyway :)

Yep

Thanks CBB!

I will add that it must be pretty close to the SAS day and comparrisons can be drawn. I had done some minor jet changes between last year and now and i pulled 61.1 last year and 62.1 this year. Although i am not making more power i am running truckloads smoother.

Without starting anything i will say the the CBB was a better day.
More room to watch and the Dyno Dynamic man was there to ask questions. You could get them to happily press buttons to give torque, power and air/fuel ratio.
I did another jet change on the day and then did a second pull. Yep - helped heaps in smoothness

Dave - yep. Such a smooth looking car. So unassuming!
What blew me away was Dave took the stinger off and lost 15-20 ponies! Twas a good learing day

Sorry to hear that u didn't enjoy SAS Barry, the second time we went we got all the readings that we wanted. They did answer all my questions & the reason u are not allowed in the dyno room is because of work cover. CBB must have insurance for all of u to be in there. Must cost some bucks.

Funny Barry, your reading went up but Peter & Costa went down from memory?

Sorry to hear that u didn't enjoy SAS Barry,

Never said that Jak

I enjoy ALL these days - just saying that there was more room and peoples and stuff at CBB

As for Pete and Costa cant answer. I think Pete had been tweeking more than me so that is where i got the constant denominator theory from

All DYno days are good if it provides the information you want.
For me it did do that.

Well sorry to burst you're bubble Jak, but today was the day Greg Ward and myself ran our 1916cc cars on a Dyno both producing over 100 HP

My hillclimb 1916cc beetle produced 111.6hp and Greg's produced 108.8hp. We did it at Berowra (Dumar Auto Technics Pty Ltd) at a new SHOOTOUT 03 Dyno Dynamic dyno .

Greg's was running a lot richer than mine and this was affecting his overall result.

So at whet revs was the power made for my Pobjoy 1916cc ?? as follows

3400rpm = 62hp
3800rpm = 70hp
4200rpm = 82hp
4600rpm = 88hp
5000rpm = 100hp
5400rpm = 104hp
5800rpm = 108hp
6200rpm = 110hp
and 111.6hp at 6400rpm
7000rpm = 108hp

So it was not 120hp max Hp, but I'm happy with 111.6hp :thumb

Oh yeah, done in shootout mode so this should be a direct comparison, so I'm told :D

No bubble around me Craig, it burst a long time ago.
Fantastic dyno results, gives me a little hope yet with the new heads coming. How come u didn't take them out to 8000rpm?
The 1916cc that was at CBB that got 91@ the wheels, is that one of the super duper Pobjoy motors?? or was it a home made jobby?

Jak

The 91 was a pobjoy steroids.

Run on a freshly calibrated new Dyno. With a DYNO DYNAMICS rep there as well as the qualified owner. Run in Shootout.

the dyno operator took mine to 7500rpm but the power fell away so no use going further. went down to 104hp at 7500rpm, so I guess the high fan speed affects the top end. I only rev it to 8000rpm when I'm not wanting to change gears between corners etc. So for straight line speed I now know to change at about 7000rpm
:thumb

Troy's 1916 is a Steroids combo, but apparently was running very lean on the dyno Day, and Mike would not run it past 6000rpm on the day. So he needs to do a bit of tuning !! Should get about 4HP more over 6000rpm and with a jet change probably another 4 or 5hp , or over 100hp total ! Troy was also using the standard VW pulley, Greg and myself use a power pulley for the street (and now supersprints) due to the revs, so this may also give an extra 5hp ????

Imagine if I put a stinger on !!! another 15-20hp or about 130hp at the wheels, not bad for standard stroke and under 2000cc:D

Barry, for learning purposes, a stinger will give you about 1/2 sec in the quarter mile.

just show's how much horsepower can be gained by setting your motor up for the drags compared to the street. Next time I will have to try :thumb

So Daves motor produced about 123hp in street setup??? without stinger?

Keiths 2387cc which was slapped together with low 8.5 compression & cracked 041 heads, untuned made 119@ the wheels, imagine if was tuned & sorted with some real nice heads! It made it's power at 5500rpm as well.
Do u think that thats as much as u can get with the 1916cc Craig? Is there anymore that Stan can do?

It made 126.6 with the muffler, but it is an offset "in and out" cheap muffler I put on it to keep it quiet for the street.

I just posted the engine specs in members rides for anyone interested.

Still more Jak :thumb You need to remember that my motor was built to run hillclimb, not Dyno days or produce maximum HP from the 1916 combo. I have spoken to Stan in the past regarding more HP, and this can be acheived with a Cam change , Bigger carbies, and a few other pobjoy "secrets":D

Drag motor performance (High HP) and everyday street motors are different combinations, time I did a Drag combo:thumb
