Nick , so true there ! 14Plus fuel is nice and cold but at around $180 for 20 ltrs I don't like spilling any !
All so having that long piece of fuel hose , I can undo from carby tee piece and It will reach to back of car into bucket for cleaning out main fuel
line or testing pump .
Up front I don't have on/off valve but with Pushloc fuel line I clamp it closed . All pump and filter are fitted in spare tyre area .
With petrol I have to be real careful how much I touch it or smell it ,as it makes me real sick fast nowdays . To much washing parts over the years
with the stuff.

done that too.... sadly. valve sounds like a good idea. espcially if your leaving a car outside or going away for a longish while... you can only
drive so far on a small amount of fuel.

Car went well.
1.57 sixty foot time and 7.3 at 93.5 to the 1/8 mile.
Also ran a 11.67@117.14mph.
that run, as with the 11.47 (117.31) were on the 7800 limiter thru the finish.
Just needs some fine tuning of mixtures now.
Pretty fast car.

Dave ,your memory is real good mate . Yep , was quite a good night , after quick fix of throttle peddle after Rod bent it over centre . We didn't
touch the motor at all , no leaks , no changing a thing , just seat time for Rod .
Air was quite good ,so was track with group 1 cars testing all week . Next time out we will play with jetting , rev's , get alittle more serous with
this new bullet !
Thanks to the helpers from Rod , Dangerous , Col , Me .

No dyno yet.
My guess is between 190 to 200, but not quite sure of car weight....1700lbs?
"Guess jetting" is close, but still more to come based on small amount of data that was actually recorded from the lm1.

After the first couple of troubled/aborted passes,
the good run was progressing down the track quite cleanly.
When I heard the limiter popping as it went through the finish,
I thought, cool! (all the while, not knowing where Pete had set it)
But when 117 came up on the time boards I was really shocked.
The 11.47 et was a big bonus.
After going through the engine initially a couple of months ago,
I realised it was going to be pretty stout if the rpm could be kept high.
This was based on the port's size and cam lift.
But the 117mph was above my expectations.
I am not sure what Pete and Rod were expecting,
but I know Rod did not believe us when we told him the pass was an 11.47 at 117mph.

Wow, fantastic effort guys, 117MPH!!
That bug's really pulling some horsepower now.
Have you guys dispensed with the flat tappet set ups now and gone roller?

Hi David,
still flat tappet.
The engine is actually very simple 2387.
Still has mag case and all but the heads are off the shelf parts.
Even just an 8 dowel crank.
I never had a chance to flow the Competition Eliminator heads,
but know that they have 48 inlets and 39.6 exhaust valves with a fatter than stock stem.
I would say port size would be similar to in your avatar.
There were a few important assembly details that needed attention from its original owner in the USA,
but now it is all sweet.
If Rod and Pete are happy,
I can list the specs.
More the merrier I say for fast Volksies.

Rod bought it from the USA and it was a collection of parts left over from a racer.
I spent 27 hours re doing the whole thing after it had leaks, pinging and no oil pressure,
before it even went down the track.
So it is essentially an Australian built engine.
The fellow who originally owned it WAS honest and genuine
about everything that it contained,
it just needed a little more detail time spent on assembly and machining.
I would consider any assembled engine as just a "box of parts" myself....no matter who assembles it.
I then go through everything and know in my mind what is "in there" at the start line.

ok so what you are saying is Rod bought those parts cheap in the form of an engine instead of boxes.
It would be disappointing if he paid good money for it thinking it was a ready to race engine, but as it turned out you guys were going to rebuild it
anyway. Cool Dave lucky you had a spare 27 hours........ nice work

Dave,
I'd love to hear some of the details on this motor if it's OK with Pete and Rod.
My 2387 can't touch those numbers. Best 1/8th so far is 7.7 at 89MPH, running the Porsche fan and with muffler. I'd be interested in comparing
specs. My peak HP on the dyno is at around 6500?! This has always baffled me considering the port size and cam duration (278 at 050).
Congratulations guys you've just lifted the bar big time!
Now it's up to the rest of us to play catch up.

I think Pete was expecting that sort of time from the car , maybe not from the driver. The runs didnt feel that fast as the car drives so nice . The
guys fooled me on the 11.47 run as they all looked disappointed as I returned to the pits. I thought it might be OK as the only way i can judge a run
is by how hard it is to pull up . Thanks to Pete for spending so much time getting the car fool proof and to Dave for the motor and box. Thanks also
to Col for making it to the track a day or two after his hospital release . Happy for Dave to share the specs.
Sorry about the reaction times Henry.
