CT

Oval is looking extra sweet, especially with the Fuchs. Great work.

Make sure you guys get some good video this year so I can see what your up to ;)

Good luck with the racing... perhaps aim for those really tight tracks so Jak doesn't have time to "get on it"!

Cheers
Jeremy

Yes it will be interesting to see the results, especially now that u have an engine that been built with attention to detail, to think that u didn't just spend thousands & thousands of dollars on it either.
Are u going to use a pulley & fan belt when u dyno it CT so that u get some real dyno figures?
I'll book the dyno for u.

Run In

I'll be running the engine in at Oran Park on Sunday. I hope the combo works well but I pray my spanner skills are up to the task. It's the first engine I've built.

I'll also be coming to terms with the new suspension set up.

The wheel alignment guy thinks the car is really well balanced. He had scales so I got him to weigh the car at each wheel.

A shade under 40% of the weight on the front wheels.

Left front corner + right rear corner 49.9%
Right front corner + left rear corner 50.1%

I don't know why they measure it that way.

It's a pity I have to sit in it and bugger up the good weight distribution (Don't post that I should've sat in the car to have it done).

Alignment wise the car has 3 degrees neg camber all around. The toe is almost straight because I'm trying to tune the components before using the w/a specs. Castor is 6 degrees at the front. That's 2 castor wedges behind the bottom beam.

As I said I don't know how this combo will go until I drive it on Sunday.

PS I doubt I'll be keeping up with the Rizzo.

Hi CT

You can download software to help you setup your corner weights here http://www.chuckbunnell.com/kart/soft/wjacker.zip

Where is this wonderful man with a set of scales?

We're planning to go to the drags and watch. The problem with WISID is that you have to go such a long way to get to a nice hairpin bend that you're not allowed to speed around any way. JVL and I got in trouble for that last year.

No Jak....you need a little more time to think about what you have done!

If I get the new fuel pump in the next 4 days and I get the brake lights working, I might let the animal explore its new surroundings for the first time with a trip to oran park.

No C Tander on the weekend. More like Will Davidson.

Yep I'll be on the sidelines at Oran Park. I tried to do a late entry yesterday but it's a full field. I'll turn up anyway just in case I can fill in for a cancellation.

I'd normally enter earlier but I wasn't sure the car was going to be ready. Mind you I still haven't had a chance to see how the new set up feels without being stuck in traffic.

Either way the car will get a run on the weekend.

Bugger!

Yes you can come out of the corner Mr Rizzo, but only if you behave yourself.

Keeping up with the sledging

It was a beautiful day at Oran Park today. I didn't keep up with the Rizzos. I didn't even race. But I did drive the beetle out to the track and it went really well.

The engine is definately deeper sounding. It has more torque. It also seems very willing to rev. It seems really happy with the jets I've thrown at it but I'll have to do some plug checks and maybe have one or two runs on a dyno.

The suspension seems good. The front is lower than before and the steering is a fair bit heavier with the extra castor.

Jaks car looked great on the track. It's a jet down the straight. On one lap he overtook a 914/6 and a 911. The 911 driver did everything he could not to let Jak pass. Jak also kept his boot planted and had to brake late on the inside of the track, off the racing line, somehow he pulled the car up and continued to pull away. He was moved from group 10 to 7 and then to 5 when people were realising how quick the vw is.

Next race is at Wakefiled on the 24th of June. I'll get my entry in early this time.
