Found a 1967 beetle as a donor for the floor pan (chassis). Picked it up for 50 bucks. Its a clean floor. body has been stripped. Has had an engine
fire but no damage to the gearbox etc so i am laughin. No rust too. Even better. Still tend on cleaning it up, rust proffing it and painting it in a
sound deadner. :thumb (on the inside anyway)

The strip down begins. All the stereo is out now and the original seats are back in with the laser tx3 ones put in storage so to speak. The ol girl is
getting transported to my nans workshop about 70km's away until our own new shed is built. should bring my baby home within the next 4-6 weeks. She
dont go till next weekend so a little time to spend with her yet.

Officially its a 1967 Model with the new floor pan so shes no longer 1962 - RIP, even though its actually a 1966 model with a f**ked up rego paper!
Anyway, new chassis, new start!
Welcome to the 1967 Standard.

Glad to see that you're doing the old girl up. It is a big job and I had to have the pillars rebuilt in mine before the paint job. It is well worth
doing these 60's Beetle up, they also look really cool. The Ovals are overated, a bigger back window doesn't really change anything.

shell wise mine is very good, the only rust being in the front passenger guard just under the chrome strip and also in the front passenger wheel arch
just down near the floor. appart from that i dont think there is much else. I hope not anyway. Just trying to work out what on it is worth keeping and
whats worth replacing. love to replace it all but cost will be too high. Most of the chrome is in good order, except bumpers which have a few marks so
they will be getting replaced, um, and the bonnet dress trims going too. Its got a few marks not wanted. Question is, how do i go about filling in the
hole in the dash that was cut by the previous owner for a stereo to go in?
do i chop and weld another dash in, or just weld a plate in the hole and paint it all??? any advice greatfully appreciated.

Do you need to weld the hole or are you going to use a stereo? IF you're going to use a stereo just leave it.
Welding a new dash is a bigger job than just welding a plate over this area. No real advice here other than if it isn't too bad, just leave it as it
is.

you can weld in plate to fix it. grafting in a dash would be very difficult and time consuming.
Be careful about the hole in the wheel arch, as this can mean the whole pillar is rusted and/or the heater channel.

Oh goody, just what i wanted to hear!
Heres a photo of the rust under the wheel arch. fingers crossed it wont be much......
the chrome strip is just bubble rust under the paint as it appears to have gotten in where the hole is to mount the side strip.

Its been a while so i felt it was time to update....
MMMMmmmm. whats changed. Well it is now sporting lots of cobb webs and is sitting there doing nothing. I drove it up and down the street 2 weeks ago
and its still running like a dream so i guess while i am sorting out other things it can sit there for another few mths. Moving house soon so soon to
be garaged in a huge arse shed under a car cover. Will pull it out once annually and give it a run. appart from that.
No news is good news i guess.

Hired a trailor and took the ol' girl out to our other property today. The shed is almost complete, all thats remaining is the roof and garage doors
and shes all done. The delays have been with power factor. We have been using a generator for everything and its made it difficult. Powercor assure us
the power will be connected first thing in the morning. YAY! As for a daily driver i have bought myself a 1996 VS Series 1 Statesman (Ecotec V6). It
tows the beetle like a dream considering its only a v6 but they put out over 300nm of torque and power is up there @ 147kw. It will make the resto
process and transportation heaps easier than relying on others to do the towing for me. Everything should start to roll pretty soon. Just a few more
minor debts to clear and i can then start pouring money into the beetle again. :thumb

Hey hey hey!
just a quick update. Beetle has been sittin out our shed for 4 weeks. Went out and fired it up. Motor spun once and fired. This re-assures me that i
am sticking with the 1600 i have a base plant motor. Its just too damn reliable and runs like a sewing machine to chuck it and start again. keep ya
eyes peeled at the 4 sales section. All the bits off my beetle that will be getting replaced will go up for grabs. Everything from seats, bumpers,
even the carpet thats pretty smick still.
All the best to everyone...

Is this low enough? or do i want to invest in drop spindles? Its only one spline at the back and the front is as low as it will go, however still
running 165 tyres. 145 will drop it a little lower.
