Rod (Rocket)Penrose informed me today that he is going to fit a rear vision mirror to his drag car to keep an eye on the DOG & for me
to paint the name Houndog backwards so he can properly read it.I feel that there are at least two avenues of options for me to take
here either ....fit a tow bar to my unit so he is at least guaranteed a respectable pass or deploy my 'chute at half track & let him catch
up a bit....although his new combination will be nitrous assisted.I didn't bother about reminding him about a 351 GT Falcon with nitrous
that I had to give .85 second start once at Willowbank & the Ford was runner up.We need to get him off the pies & get him on a
pushbike then wouldn' have to worry about chasing anymore horsepower......................
I think he may have been sniffing the contents of that new NOS bottle as his comments appear funny & a bit out of
character.

Dear gentleman thanks for posting the Surfer's shots..I now recall those two cars Grogy. Matt I would love to be able to go to Portland. At the moment we are currently fabricating fibreglass intake scoops to sit on top of the rear guards to induce air into the muzzles of the Dog.Being all custom manufacture there is no short cut..or quick buy parts. The area where the induction is,is near straight behind the outside of the rear wheels within the confinements of the rear guards. This location provides a huge low low pressure area at speed. The massive air intakes that feed this unit are still confined under the mudguards to retain some form of external originality excepting the air feed appearance.I will ring Rocket Rod to receive anxious results on Portland...you guys just keep an eye on him not so much as in the pits or on the track but his canteen habits...I know definitely that the car will be at the Willowbank Winters-June & maybe prior that in early May for another championship event scheduled there also .Sydney in March is it a compact event ???Rocket is leaning on me here..would be a good opportunity for a shakedown run & try out the towbar !!!!! Anyway at Portland look after yourselves, god luck with the racing & drive to survive especially outside the racetrack. .look after each other & have agood time.Kind regards..Ross.

Wow what a great read!

Awesome to see you here Ross and equally awesome to see the DOG is coming back together... When Rodney passed on the fact that you were keen to get back into it some time back, the cry's of 'more, more' from the current establishment were deafening... Your car, along with Pete's, the Krugers, Dave's, Matt's and a few others I could mention have kept us old schooler's wanting more.

Keep at it.... The DOG must rise again!

Dear Humpty...This forum has certainly rekindled past observations by yourselves
that I never knew existed in the previous running of this car.As it has been out of
circulation for quite some time it surprises me that you guys have such a long &
maintained interest in the vw scene. The forum has certainly provided value to be
able to speak to some of you people. My next challenge is getting Rocket Rod on
track but that might take me more than the 5 years of engine development that I have
put in here !!!!!!!

Sport compact is on March 15th. Pete Page did mention to me he was thinking of going down to compete and maybe Rod R as well. Be good to see you out at this event Ross even if it is only for some shakedown passes. the All motor boys and girls from the Honda and Rotary ranks won't be happy to see another quick Volksy to bolster the ranks.....

Dear Brennden..cannot promises this one but working hard..One of the most
exciting rewards (especially previously) about running a high powered VW with so much
engineering hidden underneath the boot lid is the initial perception of the general
public in seeing a VW on a dragstrip (which were never recognised as a powerhouse
especially in general commuting terms) & thinking what the hell does he think he is going
to do with that when it was lined up to an average turbo six or maybe a V8.My friends
amongst the crowd would hear all sorts of comments until the clutch was let out.People these
days are not so quick to pre judge us now.The problem that does exist in all categories is
competitors do not like to be made the underdogs by being hosed by VWs.. I have hardened &
offer no sympathy !!!!

learnt not to be sympathetic anymore !!!

Dangerous, Pete, Rod and Morgan Smith have all earned a lot of respect from fellow competitors as they are really hard to beat(especially the ever consistent Muffin man!!)

Funny thing with All motor is the arguments between the Honda and Rotary boys over who is quicker and why!!! VW's don't even enter the argument till race day then it's a case of "oh we forgot about those guys!!"

Dear Brennden & Humpty,Dangerous Dave & you close knit guys obviously enjoy one another which is the main crux of what this is all about.I have a head start on Dangerous with 40 years of VW mechanical experience of which my business is primarily functioned around. I speak to Dangerous often especially when I am in the guts of the project & need some respite. His knowledge to age ratio is first class...I am certainly impressed with his all motor consistency, his level of reliability his car presentation & running one of these critters from elevens down is far from a walk in the park...they are like handling a wild dog...unpredictable & you have to well & truly be on your guard.I guess we are phased by the challenge & of course the result.Dangerous' commitment to his friends coupled with his attitude..we are lucky to have his company....well done Dangerous Dave.

I can't wait to see the 'houndog" in the flesh. Pics just don't do it justice.
I have been reading this thread daily to catch up on all the latest news. Unfortunately can't add much in the way of tech but love the old school racers and could only dream of getting my car to anything half as good as youe guys. It's all you guys who keep me motivated and can I add that in the few years I've been helping Dave out I have gained more insight than my brain can cope with. I'm sure he has had a part in anyone who races.
The days not too far away where you'll need to take your shoes off to count the field of volksies at a race meet.

Keep up the great work everyone.

Dear Stanley..The car is still in good shape & the paintwork etc is A! It sits here not far from my office desk.
It has been a large effort on this upgrade of Houndog & I will be relieved when at the track. Previously when it
was doing tens a considerable amount of time went into doing that engine. After Gene/Gary Berg took 1/3 of a
second off my national record & added a few mile an hour I knew that if I ever wanted to challenge this that
a lot of homework & expense would be necessary, consequently there is a lot of internal engineering fabricated
into this which is rather unique & untried in vw racing engines..it has all worked & fortuneately when severely dyno
tested was dismantled & unscathed.I knew the 2.9 litre engine was going to be strong but was overwhelmed when it
produced 256 ft lbs of torque in its naturally aspirated trim 56 more than a GTRXU-1 6 cylinder 3.3 litre & an additional
126 more horsepower than an XU-1....that was a favorable reward that certainly offset the 5 year effort.

I must say that I would have never thought that a naturally aspirated 2.9 litre 4 would ever produce the
torque level well above a 6 cylinder 3.3 litre GTRXU-1 which had 200 ft lbs to my 256..Good luck & time
obviously on my side. Thanks for your time on comment...Ross.

There has been very few times that I have chatted to Dangerous that i haven't been able to get the answer to my VW related problem.

On the other hand I asked a question about a wife related problem and had him totally stumped !!

Dear Brennden....with respect--when it's a problem with a women I think most men get stumped !!!
I have a very supportive wife although she is concerned about the parameters that I will be driving to..
Now the first tip on this forum without any spanners...to make a marriage thrive always let the women
have the last say...any word said after that is officially the beginning of a new argument !!!!
