I weighed mine at the local tip without the spare, toolbox & other crap in the car, as though it was ready to race & it was 890kg, & then
I found out that 890kg is what VW said it was when it left the factory!

PS can't wait to go back to the dyno to try out your 044's!

Pete, sorry to hear about your car. The upside is that he'd probably already soiled his pants before he found out it is a Volkswagen!!
Some of those figures are awesome! Well done to all but especially Keith. That must be some motor! :thumb

Hi Craig
To enter on the 12th u have to be a member of the Porsche club, just join & turn up to Wakefeild Park in Goulbourn & just do continuous laps
all day!!!
Just as a friendly note, CT & I aren't there for the competition, we basically just use it as a Sunday drive as the street is no place to
drive our little toys quick on anymore. I've noticed on some of your other posts that u champion of the Universe in Hillclimb LOL!
As for your offer for the hillclimb, I'll have to decline. It's just not my cup of tea. Driving flatout on roads designed for a restricted
speed limit doesn't appeal to me, I do enough stupid stuff on my Mountain bike, & besides, after reading the 1916, what do think of it
thread, it doesn't sound like u guys enjoy yourselves that much as u seem to spend a lot of time bitching about tenths of seconds.
But anyway, I hope to see u on the 12th, we should have up to 8 vw's this year running with the Porsche club, last year CT joined me & the
year before that I was running solo, so to say that it has snow balled is an understatement.

Jakriz, thanks for the reply. As for the bitchness at hillclimb, there is none, just happened to spill out on this forum !!!!
I was going to race my street beetle for some fun ! the hillclimb gearbox 4th gear is probably the same as a stock 3rd!
Which Porsche club, is there only 1 ?
P.S there's nothing like doing big speeds on public roads, legally!!!

Gooday, just been lurking at STF its nice to see that not all yanks are claiming 120-150 hp.Theres a guy with a mild 1776 with dual kads 68bhp and 90ft
lbs torque, thats pretty close to Barrys 61bhp and theres another hero claiming 17bhp in his stock 1200,all these were dynoed. |

maybe its cos torque = force x distance. jaks car makes torque from longer stroke.
then hp = torque x revs.

CT needs smaller valves and less radical heads, then it will make more power !(Also he is running ratio rockers compounding the "Big valve"
problem)
Its all about the right combination not necessarily the individual components, if one is wrong it lets the whole engine down.

It just so happens that I pulled the engine out this evening. I'm going to put a dial guage on the retainer and measure the valve lift to make
sure it's still there. Then I'm going to test your theory Craig. I've got some 40 x 36 valve 044 heads which are going on. Then back to
the dyno for a back to back test.
I'm impressed by the broad power curve of the 37/68 cam but if it doesn't get me above 80 hp with the 044s I'm going to find another
cam.
I'm glad you're coming to wakefield Craig. I had Porsche Boxter that couldn't catch me at that track so I'll be expecting you to
pull the same trick with some of the 993s and 996s.

Hi all,
Back on line after 6 months. Sorry Jak missed you dyno day, but had a Kombi that needed an urgent rear seal change!
Guy's where's the torque figures? Without torque figures I'm only getting half the story! Horsepower may win you a race, but torque is
what pulls you off the line and out of corners.
My limited experience on dyno's has taught me not to even ask for horsepower readout until my tuning sessions are over. But what I do like to
see during the tuning is big torque figures at low rev's.
With my new cam and changes I hope to make your next session.
Looked like a great day!
Cheers leigh

Leigh
I think we learn by experience.
Our print outs gave HP and Air Fuel ratio readings. A few of the stock cars that ran on a set of different rollers got HP anf torque.
I guess next time we can ask for the Torque and not air fuel or just look at the air fuel or get 2 printouts or......

baaah. poor excuse. (you and brichall using the same one?) You could have done the seal change after the dyno.
My preparation was the usual 5 minutes. Finished putting the boost adjustment in the night before. Went for a spin up to 22 psi and blew the gasket
out of the plenum. Mainly cos the threads are 90% stripped so it probably lifts up. So it would go to 10 psi and drop back to about 7. But it was
backfiring pretty bad at the same time. bad coil/plug/lead? dunno. Seeing as how my AF graph goes off the scale and it smokes like a diesel
there's probably big chunk's of charcoal hanging off the plugs.
There's always a next time. You better go first as my big block 1800 will prolly break the dyno. Would hate to see you miss out again.

Hi Leigh
CT & I will be going back to the dyno within the next month if u want to chip in & book an hour or so.
As for the figures, it was only a quick 10 minute session each with 2 runs each, although I got 3 as I was on first & I asked the operator to give
her one more blatt as I was intoxicated standing next to my car at 6000rpm! It was brilliant!!!!!
