Back to the future 2 in 2015 theres a 70s dub with the dish covers on the wheels.
B grade movie of late 90s with a 64 bug doing tricks on stairs and walkways that only a 4x4 would do, as well as outrunning crown victorias in a chase scene.

if you wanna go techy, the first series transformers 'cup' was a vw.

also, a really old kids movie
sesame street 'follow that bird' cookie monster literally eats a 69 vw, extremely funny seeing 'bites' out of the fenders roof, etc.

There was a series on tele in the '80s about a Private Detective who had a ex crim as a minder/driver, he drove a red Dino Ferrari (real one) but all the driving sequences were done in a red VW based kitcar that had wide 5 chrome wheels on it without hubcaps, the body looked ok but the wheels were a dead giveaway.

Cheers.

"Magnificent Seven" when a Kubelwagen gets run over by a tank or truck at the gateway. Actually you could count all the war movies depicting Germany at war, there's usually a Kubel in there somewhere.

I noticed a very prominent purple beetle in a recent episode ...it was the one where the whole town was trying to find treasure.

53racer you are absolutely right, what was I thinking. There were actually 12 Coyotes used during the making of Hardcastle & McCormack.

Hey man, I like just watched Cheech & Chongs up in smoke like again man, VWs are like everywhere. Chong like drives off in a beetle cabrio in the start of the movie with a stolen (from his father) Rolls Royce grill like strapped to the front of it.

Cool man.

Death Race 2000

Possibly the worst movie ever made! It featured both Sylvester Stallone and David Carradine.

All the cars in the race are VWs with ridiculous body mods. There's a Karmann mocked up to look like a V2 bomb, driven by a couple of Neo Nazis. It was filmed in the 70's and is very un PC to say the least.

Watch in horror! There's rumours of a remake too!

The Hills Have Eyes.
Shockingly bad movie

but did have 4 VWs in it, a van (transporter I think) a beetle, a dune buggy and a country buggy.

While walking into the cinema I went a bit nutso, saw the big cardboard cutout of the Splitty in the animated movie Cars...I want one!!!

Yes, in Cars there is a Kombi called Fillmore. Can't wait for the movie and being Pixar, you know there will be heaps of merchandise to entice us VW and car freaks.....bring it on!

I think Ted Bundy's vw is owned by Billy Corgan. I'm sure I saw it on MTV - Ride with funkmaster Flex.

Saw Dirty Harry again!!!

I counted 16 VW's. These included a long look at a great splitty 15 window and many type 3 squarebacks and the rest were beetles. The scene with the school bus trying to run a beetle off the road was funny....the bug held its ground for as long as it could!!

Bullit [ 1967 i think ] In the amazing car chase on the streets of San Francisco, Steve McQueen passes the same white '64 beetle about 10 times in the space of 5 mins.

Think i once remember reading that it was the Directors daughters car and she wanted it in the film....

In the original Scream movie the main character's best friend has a nice red '65 or '66 beetle. In 'Copycat' a killer copycat's Ted Bundy & has a goldy coloured late mode beetle. In 'Hot Chick' there's a yellow new bug cabrio.

vdubs to the max!!

I thought I would watch some others of the Dirty Harry movies.Man they are crammed packed with early beetles splitscreen buses and others. Just watched #3 in teh series and a great shot of a couple of splitty microbuses with one getting totalled!!!!!

A definite must to see early vdubs in action. Yes there is gratiutious violence.....mostly towards the vdubs.

OK I've dragged an old, old thread back from the dead!

Went to see the Aussie film 'My Year Without Sex' this week and there is a nice Type 3 Squareback used in it as the family car, very cool!!

The film was made in Melbourne, anyone know who's ride they used? I was trying to rack my brain to think who's it was or if I knew it from any of our VW shows?

just watched an episode of wrecks to riches where they're building a 68 chevy nova, and when the go to the wrecking yard to find a car, there was about 13 or so VW's there were a few beetles as they panned over the yard, most were early 70's but there was a few earlies and 1 oval from what i could make out. 3 ghias and a couple type 3's

A week or 2 ago, there was a show on ABC about some old duck complaining about too much sex on the BBC. It was set in the 60's. On one of her trips back from a visit with officialdom she stopped next to a kombi with some hippies making out (which was totally shocking). What I found disturbing though was that the front of the kombi looked very much like a post 1973 kombi with high mounted indicators.

The last Hulk movie. At teh beginning after Hulking out, He is picked up by a guy driving one of those South American Kombi Derivatives, very strange looking.

Also the Get Smart Movie with teh famous sky blue Karmann Ghia...sooo cool.

Glad someone resurrected my old thread guys.

The first Dirty Harry Movies had Heaps of Vdubs and a great Splitty getting smashed. Sigh
VW must have paid big bucks for the product placement as there is a VW in just about every car scene.
