greedy,

just take it. Show off the lines, and if anyone asks how u did it...start with all the paper for, pics from mags etc...and hand them the club applications.

And just say "I did it, with perserverance, so u can too. If u really really want it, it will happen"

But yeah, u should take it, even if its just so kroozzn can show off his work.

Steve, i think you should have taken it to the shootout. It was your clubs show, and to be honest it would have caused a stir having it there which is what it needed coz there wasnt much else going on..... we needed some dramas haha

Personally I think it serves you all right for bagging him out. I don't personally love the super nose on it, but the taillights and pin stripes are awesome. As a package the car rocks. But no, everyone wanted to get all cranky about 'historic' rego. More like 'Hysteric' rego!

Greedy, good on ya for doing something different and getting it regoed. ;)

Sorry just seems like the same debate all over again. Gene Berg etc etc. At least it's got a certificate and rego. Seems like he's been up front to me. And I reckon at the end of the day, a hot rod is a state of mind more than a sterile definition.

And the car is not like so many others. I can think of at least one guy on this forum who just swaps the plates on his cars when he wants to drive the unregoed one on the street or at street meets. :o

Hi

This car has certainly broken sone new ground with the RTA, I think the real problems will arise when someone from a geriatric car polishers club spots the historic plates and has a whinge to the RTA.

So with this line of reasoning with the RTA can beach buggy be put on historic rego or Powertune beetle with a 2180 stage 5 motor? I have a Powertune catalogue from the old days with all the specs of the different models.

And that is the guts of the problem. People with nothing better than to make other people's life hard by complaining about things that don't matter. Unfortunately, these are the types that keep classic car clubs going for no other reason than wanting to have one up on someone else. Must be hard being the only one who's 'right'. :o

there are front mudguards on it, but not in that picture. they are hot rod style guards attached to the struts that legally cover the wheel. i'll try and find some lookalike pictures

I can understand why the vintage guys have a whinge, the plates are a priviledge and if people abuse it then they will lose the scheme which they run under. All it takes is a car like this one to be involved in an accident etc.
The plates are basically available for historical preservation purposes, and for the life of me i cant work out what is being preserved of historic value in this case?

As for street rod registraion i have no idea?? Does it have engineering certificates for all the body mods? if so why cant it be registered normally as an independently constructed car or something?

its a '36 ford replica based on a vw body... all it needs now is the bonnet (yeah it ooks a little fat with the super front end, but i still love it) to be made and it is 100% complete.

as you can see by the catalogue greedy posted, it is a geuine replica kit that was made way back when, so why cant it be on historic plates.

i could understand why people would go crazy if it was classed as a 73 superbug on historic plates... then theres no way it could happen.

all body work has engineering certificates, i looked at them when i was going to buy the car during the build process. steve doesnt want this to be registered normally, as he only takes it out on weekend club runs, no point in keeping it registered for a bucket of cash every year only to use it every now and then, thats why he went through all of the trouble to get this thing registered historically legally. no hoodwinking, no wool over anyones eyes... if he gets pulled over by a cop, sure theyll check... only to find that it is done perfectly legally.

Our club went through all the hoops with the assistance of the Street Machine Association's lawyers for a member who had a XT Falcon with all the 'factory' bits to make it a XT Falcon GT replica.
It could not be granted H plates.
This thing above is no way right. It would never even pass for normal registration. Having it on an unregistered scheme is madness.

you know, if you hadn't made all those bonehead posts bagging people out, we might actually be interested in this post, but...as it stands, unless you seriously repent for all the dumb comments, you're not going to get a real listening anymore.

BTW, the post above this just adds more weight to my argument.

This is my last post on this topic, Its not a genuine replica kit! there are no elements of a kit even on this car!! its a sunbug with no gaurds and a chopped screen! even with the bonnet your pulling yourselves!

If he had an excact kit produced over 30 years ago he may have a point, BUT HE DOESNT!!!! he has modified sunbug!

And how was it registered as vw 36 ford replica when it hasnt even had the 36 ford bits even procured for it yet???? let alone fitted!!!!

It gets up my nose because i would like to put a 70 beetle with period correct stroker motor on IDA's etc, period wheels interior etc etc. on historic plates.
Basically a period correct cal looker for taking to club days and a bit of drag racing. And I know there isnt a chance of hell in getting it on historic plates. So how does this thing that bears no resemblance to anything around at the time get on historic plates???

if anyone can refer me to a club that will let a 12 or 13 sec beetle run on historic plates please let me know!!
