If people want something different, why not join the Volks club of Bendigo, were only an hour and a bit up the road and we have monthly cruises, monthly meetings, seasonal social nights, weekends away plus more!

...I've come in here a bit late...but for what it's worth

The club is always very mindful of the club members feedback....

The clashing of event days is always an ongoing issue it seems, I've only been fully aware of it over the last couple of years. The VW Club of Viic is more than happy for the 356's to have an area of whatever grounds we use so that the events are in the same place

We had outgrown Yarra Glen as wonderful as it was there. Last year was very hard on the judges as all Types were intermingled, and cars in the same category may have been on opposite sides of the grounds. The condition of the grass areas is always a concern considering Melbournes unpredictable weather

A large undercover area for the traders is a must

VW Club of Vic committee members went to several venues to check out facilities, suitability and cost. Cranbourne came out on top...Flemington was out well of the clubs price range as they are not wanting to spend all of the clubs money on the one event, and Cranboure actually worked out cheaper.

There will be plenty of room to line cars of in their Type and category which will make juding so much easier

There will still be lawn areas for people to picnic and relax during the day

Facilities are all there and plenty of undercover areas

It actually works out cost efective to hire these type of grounds than hire marques, toilets, tables and chairs etc as we have done in the past

The clubs books are open and all is there for members to see where their money goes, and members are always able to ask if in doubt

The club has given a lot back to it's members, providing food at events at Kennet River, Picnic at Hanging Rock and several other events. There has also been General Meeting Nights were the club has put on coffee and biscuits at the RACV rooms for members

The Day of VW is fast approaching again...so please if you have any questions come along to the meeings and ask them. When opened a discussion on this topic after the last DOVW for members to have their say

The Club organises heaps of events and cruises throughout the year and deserves to be congratulated. I reckon they do a ripper job and I'm sure Cranbourne will be brilliant. I just can't see why DOVW falls on the same day as the 356 Registers event each year. Is it just coincidence?

I don't exactly know how it all happened and who started their event first...it seems a longish history.

The club did look at inner city venues but they were either not suitable for the size the DOVW has grown too or just too expensive..

The club has found it is so much better to have proper facilities and sheltered areas and at a reasonable price. The accommodation prices are more reasonable on the edge of town as well for the country and interstate visitors who come, and better for getting cars ready at than inner city accommadation places

Hopefully it will work out OK at Cranbounre...I know they are not wanting to loose the great relaxed, family friendly atmosphere that we had at Yarra Glen

... I know they were talking about different categories this year to clear up grey areas...write a letter to the club and ask...maybe if someone familiar with rats could set criteria and judge them...and there may be a sponsor interested in donating a trophy?

You can email club committee members via the club website...but get something decent together so that it sounds geniune and a serious request from a group of like minded dubbers

I love rats and a lot of you do have sweet ones out there

Rat class is a must, its getting too big not to recognise it. Its a whole lifestyle choice the world over, so as a progressive club, it should be high on the list of new catagories, otherwise people will just stray into other groups, and away from the Vic Club. That said, at the recent Eltham concourse, the reception towards our "rat" cars was very welcoming, and I felt that the club truly put on a great little event, despite the small numbers and bad weather. If the rat scene is embraced by the club, I'm sure the members would be surprised by how many new names they see on their membership list, and also the friendly laidback helping nature of those involved in the rat scene aroud Melbourne. My 2 cents.

i am a member of the vw club of vic and i am in support of the club events that occur throughout the year.

in the uk and us there are a huge number of car clubs, many localised clubs with regular 'gatherings' and less formal events. i for one would love to have such a thing here and through my discussions with other keen veedubbers, it seems that many would like to be members of both the victorian club, and a local club for gatherings.

local gatherings could be organised through the vwcv but there would have to be a number of regions or something like that so that people can have their own gatherings and not just club events rotating locations. localised events already happen as part of peoples free-will and friendship groups. putting it under a name would help to put it out there as something for everyone to be a part of and not just friendship circles.

in regards to day of the vw, it is a great event and i have no issues with the location. there seems to be some sort of history with the 356 club that causes their dates to clash with dovw every year. whatever the issue is, resolving it would be for the benefit of both clubs.

now, we all know that the vwcv is run by volunteers who put in a lot of hard work. so i'm not saying 'this is just not good enough' or anything like that, just stating the issue.

this is just my constructive feedback. if no-one gave feedback (and that includes the members of the committee) then the club would go no-where.
that said, we all appreciate everyone who puts in the time to keep the club moving forwards and i look forward to one day having the time to lend a hand too.

It would be great if VWCV members particularly the younger ones gave some input as to what type of monthly events they would like so we do have a mix of cruises and events...even if you can't make it to meetings email the social secretary who would put all of the ideas to the commitee or even run with it straight away if there was nothing else planned and it sounds a goer...and if there is time to let people know about it via the newsletter and website

We know not everyone is into lunches or dinners, or are not able to make the trips that mean planning time off of work over a few days...your feedback is valuable but once you have said you would like a particular cruise or event we would also like you to show up

The committee is happy for anyone who can't commit to a committee position, to come along when they can to committee meetings and run with something that interests them and others of like minds, or to help with the planning of a cruise...it is always good to have new blood with fresh ideas...just let them know if you are interested

There is a cruise being planned for September to Eildon where it is BYO food/BBQ and drink ... it will be pretty relaxed and a nice long cruise...if peple are wanting something shorter or close into the city, and you'd show, then please let us know

...and as it has been mentioned, there is nothing stopping anyone organising your own cruise via AUSSIEVEEDUBBERS .... plenty of people have done it and it's an excellent way to meet up ... people just have to be mindful that it is just a group of friends driving and you are not covered by insurance as a group event should anything happen

Yes if you here of another club running an event and it sounds good go for it...that's what keeps dubbing alive ... plus you make new contacts and friends ... all good stuff ... there's no monopoly on any of this so go for it

Should a rat have original old duco, or should it be sprayed with rattle cans?

Rat is in the eye of the beholder. Seems the rule for rat status is that there are no rules.

jnr let the committee know...that would be fantastic!! Run it by the committee via paulkinsey@optusnet.com.au he is the president and will bring it up it at our next meeting...or I can while I'm still there jenlittlechild@optushome.com.au

So who will go judge of this category? All you rats fans will have to get your heads together and decide what you are looking for. If you are wanting a Rat Class at shows then we need guidelines to work with and to build on in the future

The DOVW is getting very close so really get those heads together and put something up to the committee

p.s. PHAT BUG it sounds a great day...pity I have other things happening

Yes there will be a club cruise to Castlemaine that day which includes a train ride to Maldon for those who want to do it, but there is no stopping anyone joining our cruise to Castelmaine only and moving on to Bendigo

We will meet at the Mobil Service Centre on the Western Ring Road, Nth bound, at 8.45am for a 9.15am departure :tu:

As Cam said, its not about the cash you spend on them. Its not what you roll, its how you roll it. If you turn up with a car painted with a roller and house paint, you might not get a second look, but if its on a 7 inch air beam, on OG sprints, scraping the pan on the gravel then it just picked up my vote for best rat. And by the way, whats wrong with a rattle can finish. Theres no rattle without rat, it just becomes tle.

Rat judging has to be down to the public doesn't it? It's an artform and no one or two or three people can decide what's best. It's up to the individual as to what they like. Condition is relatively simple to judge (with respect).
Has to be peoples choice surely. Bit of fun too!

Peoples choice for sure Brad, its totally fair, and as you say, its fun seeing peoples reaction to rat cars. Some people get it some dont, but if you lined up 10 or 20, everyone could pick a favorite, even if they dont know a thing about the rat movement or VWs , they still have taste, good or bad.

Good responses jenz58.
I don't understand the bitching. VWCV meets monthly, there are good reports about welcome and interest experienced at club events, and your responses evidence that committee members are open to feedback and suggestions.
