Put motor in for check of No2 cylinder pipe ,how far it sits
past rear of car and guards .
Have to get a measurement for engine lid bracket that will be welded to header. The motor cover will be a boombox style cover.
Will get header recoated with a silver heatcoat (HPC) in the next few weeks.

http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r151/Dak-A-Tak/DakATak%20Bug/100_3657.jpg

Under car pic , you can see how high torsion tube has be lifted 4inch's and gear box 1inch as well.
The blue fuel fittings are -8 (left) to motor and -6(right) return to tank . Fuel lines in tunnel are russel high performance (twist - lok ) hose.
Alloy cover plate screws off for any maintance work in tunnel .

Spent some more hours today on Pete's gearbox.

First step was to drill some oil holes through the hub for 1st/2nd,
and also the hub for 3rd/4th.
Berg suggests this mod if you tighten up the end clearance of the gears.
These gears are not so tight in this box, but I still do the mod anyhow.
The surface of the hub is quite hard so I used a masonary drill sharpened up for steel,
and then a number 3 centre drill for the small hole once it was through the hard layer.

http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n216/dangerous_05/Img_2492.jpg

Here is the jig I use to press down the spring under 4th gear and install the circlip.

http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n216/dangerous_05/Img_2493.jpg

The Hard key for the 3/4 hub, and some steel caged bearings for those gears,
The bearings are from early model trannys.

http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n216/dangerous_05/Img_2494.jpg

Here are the assembled gear stacks, ready for the intermediate housing.

http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n216/dangerous_05/Img_2496.jpg

But some mods are required with the intermediate housing also.
Clearance on the diameter for the 1.217, 4th gear.

Also a later bearing to suit the splined pinion shaft.

The 1/2 gearset also needed more travel in the shift rod because of the narrowed 'slider',
and a late model tranny was the source of this item.

http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n216/dangerous_05/Img_2497.jpg

Once the gear stacks are pressed into the intermediate housing bearings,
the assembly is fitted into this jig to simulate the tranny case.

http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n216/dangerous_05/Img_2498.jpg

Here you can see where I clearanced the reverse teeth to clear the fat mainshaft from FTC....
it just clears

http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n216/dangerous_05/Img_2499.jpg

Because 2nd gear is also very wide...

http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n216/dangerous_05/Img_2500.jpg

I had to adjust reverse a little bit because it was rubbing on second gear whilst in neutral.
You adjust it and then clamp with this bolt.

http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n216/dangerous_05/Img_2501.jpg

There is a big nut on the end of this FTC mainshaft, and it is quite easy to tighten it(or loosen for that matter),
by locking it from turning with the crank wheel that simulates engine rotation.(part of the jig set)
I just flipped the crank handle so it bears against the jig.

http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n216/dangerous_05/Img_2503.jpg

Here is the whole jig with forks adjusted.
I will go back to it tomorrow and double check everything, before prepping the Rhino case.

Dak-A-Tak shed work

Trying to get all cars to Warwick this year , chop is waiting for motor to be fitted ( type 4 ), working hard at this stage but time will be the breaker point .
Put wheel studs in one hub today and fitted all up ,then found brake line comes to close to bump-stop so ,had to pull it all apart and rotate disc calliper to the rear .
:mad:Still waiting on left rotor from usa ,after they sent me 2 right side rotors .
Sparky is working on car all day this Tuesday and then finish off when body is back on .
I have entered ,so there is no turning back ,now !
