Alan,
I'm done, gearbox is in and tested, serviced the engine, tappies and oil change, also pulled the stock seats out and fitted a race seat, thats about it, ready.

Sorry to hear about your bearing problems, I think most engine builders have done that before, like Henry said, scribe a line.
See you at Warwick

Thanks Henry - yeah I had scribed both sides of the full circle bearings prior to fitting onto the crank....as mentioned above I think it was on the last time I dropped the crank into place, I only checked my scribed line on one side which was okay....but the other scribe line was obviously above where it should have been! Ah well, it is one of those mistakes I won't make again as I've learned the hard way (best lessons in life sometimes!).
Cheers

I had the car all finished on Monday morning and my new licence and log book arrived.
After a few phone calls it appears I can not escape getting a tech inspection.

Even though NOWHERE in the rule book does it say cars slower than 10.99 need one.(log book NOR Tech)

Oh, joy.

RE Warwick

I've got my oval packed but there are still a couple of things to do.

I found that the Yamaha rocker screws are wearing the lash caps. So I'll bung in another set of caps for Warwick then pursue a longer term solution when I get back.

I'm also working on an easy to remove alternative aircleaner set up to shut up the carbs on the long trip from Sydney to Warwick and back.

On Saturday at Warwick I'll try a few alternatives and see if the air cleaner hurts the miles per hour in some back to back runs down the strip.

The road trip should be fun (hopefully).

I know you have probabley being avoiding the inevatable but a good fix would to refit an exteior firwall insulation which is available at marine shops and could be made to be removable with some nutserts and eyelets in the insulation.
Having previosly worked in the acoustic engineering feild i did this to a mates car with the similar problem and aferwoods it was as if you were running standard carburation with very little induction noise transfered into the cabin.
The material i used on his was a multi layer foam type with the 1 layer of 3mm vynal with a 6mm layer of foam glued to one face and a 12mm layer of foam glued to the other face of the vynal and when fitted to the car the thinner foam side goes towards the wirewall.

I had underbonnet insulation on the firewall but it was still bloody noisy. I removed it because it was actually full of oil and probably a fire hazard. I was thinking of putting the standard stuff back in but its a bit heavy.

The product i have previosly used is a little heavy due to the vynal interlayer but you can't have everything + this product will work far better than bonnett underlay

I might give that stuff a shot when I remove the engine over Christmas. If this stuff is 20mm thick I imagine it would be quite effective.

I pumped space invader foam into the C-pillars to reduce the noise too.

Interestingly I had the underbonnet foam glued to the firewall of my old daily driver oval and it began having over heating problems. When the engine revved the fan would suck the insulation in and reduce the air intake. So with my oval I held the foam in place using the glue and the factory spikes.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Well my brother's car is proving to be somewhat of a nightmare with nothing totally going to plan LOL.

things that have gone wrong;

Bottom pulley and oil slinger drama.
pick ups for ECU on bottom pulley.
Flywheel(something in there) touching on bell housing.
turbo drain.
injector bosses on manifolds installed incorrectly.
fuel rails didn't fit due to mounts for injectors not being right.
Minor electrical gremlins
Relying on other people
running out of days to get it finished.

well all of these things now have a fix or are fixed except for relying on other people and running out of days. Can't do much about those.

things that have gone right;

engine in car
fan housing modifed to fit nicely
alternator tested out 100% ready to roll
fan, housing etc all cleaned, painted and assembled and fitted to car
breather tank and all lines fitted
electrical check of pumps and thermo's turned out ok
guages etc all work
brakes work
engine turns over in car(thank goodness for that LOL)
turbo, intercooler,exhaust,wastegate all fitted ok
clutch feels good

Progress is being made although it seems like the mountain of work is getting bigger but the job list is starting to get somewhat smaller( I hope!!)

If the tuners can do their thing without any major drama then it will be ready but if not then it will still be at Warwick but not running for all to have a look at.

A big thanks to Pete Page and Dangerous for all your help and guidance/info over the last couple of weeks(or was that months). Cheers guys!!

Next time I am at Troy's I'll get some pics. Have kinda been too busy to get any lately.

Nice Pete, looking good.

I just wrapped up for the night a little disappointed - looks like I got one too many 1.7L type IV exhaust rockers, and hence one short intake rockers from the US. These are standard 1.7 rockers but have been clearanced for the 911 swivel feet adjusters....I'm going to get in touch with Damo (66deluxe) to see if he has one I could borrow until I can replace it from the US to get me out of trouble - also have to pinch Damo's oil filler/dipstick adaptor as mine won't arrive in time.

Apart from that all the geometry is now sorted and pushrod lengths measured - at half lift all adjusters have been dialled into good alignment with the valve stems and although only the outer springs are in at the moment, looks to have miles of clearance before bind at full lift (0.500").

Now I just need pushrods cut to length, piston rings back on, heads back on and pushrod tubes installed. If I can get the 1.7 intake rocker off Damo maybe tomorrow evening, I'll hopefully be able to button it up. Solid mounts (mid and front) should be done tomorrow thus g'box firmly in place. New front brake lines were made today for line lock (but I buggered up one length so I'll hopefully get it remade tomorrow).

Lots to do, so little time!
Alan

Hey dude,
I spoke with Simon Holgerson and was able to get him to do it with a bribe of many muffins.
He has quite a busy business but came over after work.
He is the only one on the Gold Coast,
otherwise I would have had to shoot up to The Jones'.

The Jones' are great, but the drive and petrol was just not in the time and money budget right now.

Remembering that I have run 147mph in this car,
most of the car was more than safe, with only a couple of logical safety impovements suggested.

55 cars entered for Warwick so far, with a few late entries still to come. Could nudge 60.

This is 20 up on last year, and most have been built specifically for the drag racing weekend. Now that's gotta be good news for the Aussie scene.
