The First 10sec pass by a VW in the world was on Sat the 16th and 17th of September 1972.
This WAS at Castlereigh.
This was at the track one week before the Australian Nationals(at Castlereigh..no Surfers!) in the 23/24th of September.
Actually the '72 Nats were at Surfers.

Just a minor correction but the 72 Nationals were at Surfers. My brother and I drove down from Rocky for the meeting. I can remember seeing this car
(awesome sight and sound!) run so it must have been at this event.

Ahh yes, Correct you are.
I am fairly confident that the previous week was when the first 10's were run in testing at Castlereigh.
If only I could get my hands on that issue of Rodsports(only saw the cover sheet)

Hi Guys & Gals,
First time post for me, just wondered if there is any more progress on this car. I live in Orange and have know Pete for more years than I
care to remember. I crewed for him for a couple of years, while I was between cars myself. I was fortunate enough to go to New Zealand with Pete and
the car, great times, the whole thing gives me great memories.
Any info would be great.
Regards Ross.

Hey Ross.
I dont believe it!
Great to see you here.
Anyone here heard of Spike Jones, used to run an SPG 2180 in the 70's, I think in a light rail.
I met him the other day at the local servo with his much modified 924. Wow what a character.

Thanks Dave,
I'd love to go to Warwick in October, but I have a date with the California HotRod Reunion at Bakersfield then, but I'll keep it in
mind.
Matt Berry!!!! I thought you disapeared off the face of the earth, how are you mate? You see once these Bugs bite your infected for life, and
no matter how hard you try, you just keep comeing back.
Spike Jones, yep, remember him well, he had a really light Dragster, a real nice guy, I used to race against him in the 70's, I think he came
out of hill climbing to Drag Racing. Spike had some different ideas and was a real tough competitor.
Now can someone please take pitty on me and tell me how the restoration is going.
Regards Ross.

Currently the restoration is in a "hold Pattern",
until we can source a/the pan.
I still have a few of Peter's hand built parts from when I had his hill climb car,
like the sump, we found the front wheels and parts of the front axle, chute and mount, rear apron, engine and tranny braces etc,
and various engine parts that will make the engine look authentic.
Henry still has the blower and my manifold,
and Peter has hinted that the four 1.75" SU's and wier system may be available when we get close.
I still have a magneto, and the Wade cam among other parts, like rockers, barrels and clutch and flywheel.
I can have an engine and tranny together in no time flat,
so once we get a good pan and cage, the rest will happen fairly quickly.
Rod who owns the car has decided to go the "Camel" theme,
but is still undecided who might take on the paint work in the original style.

Thanks Dave,
It's great to hear that it's still a goer. I'm glad to hear that your going with the Camel theme.
Bob Dunn did the original paint work, maybe it would be worth contacting him as he is still a big fan, and I heard a rumor that he may be going to
restore or recreate the AA/FA, so this project might get him going again.
Thanks again mate, I will watch with great interest.
Regards Ross.

Hi Ross,
nothing significant in the progress yet.
Henry has given us back my old blower and manifolds,
so were just waiting on the floor pan to re- surface.
If we can not get it back we will have to do another.

I am pretty sure the Dunlop bridge was still there, (?),
but they moved the startline forward to get away from the pot holes.
You can imagine the run-off area was a bit short, (the reason I did not run).
Both Pagey and Yates were in the grass at the other end.

Yes I did make the first return road and beat Darryl back to the tower LOL.
bridge was gone by this stage and they moved the staging area forward by about 50-60 metres. where you lined up you could see the remnants of the old
pre stage area with the 2 patches of rubber on either side of the track.
