My car wont be ready in time.
So vwcool, still offering to buy 'drives'
When do app's need to be in for a lap? Is the lap run relate to this
'For the Skid Pan Motorkhana, you will need:
CAMS L2NS Lic.
Be at least 12 years old,(L2NSJ Lic. availabe for juniors)
& have a seat belt. If you are in an open car (no windscreen) you will also need a helmet & goggles/visor.'
i've got a stock 69 beetle i could get, but that could be slow and boring.

So as I see it, too run in the Lap Dash I would need:
L2S lic. $88
Cams affiliates club membership $ ? (any ideas)
Entry fee $99
I would also need to have my beetle scrutineered, what does this involve? What is checked? I would hate to enter & find out that my car wont pass
scrutineering. Is there a cost involved in getting scrutineered? Where can I get this done prior to the event?
I know this sounds like I'm a tight arse & yes I am, but as a guy that is entertaining the idea of being able to say "Yeah, I drove my beetle
at Oran Park before they closed it" I'm trying to figure out if I cancome up with the cash before I get my heart set on it. Car is only a '72 1300
standard beetle so I will only be competing for a bit of fun & self satisfaction.
Thanks for your time guys.
Cheers

Ok, so yes unfortunatley CAMS have decided to put L2S licences up to $95 this year... BUT we can now do a FREE 1 day membership to NVCC (CAMS
affiliated car club)
L2NS for the pan & dirt are now $50.
Scruitineereing is also FREE, & can be done by ANY 'S3' CAMS Scruitineer & needs to be done in the week prior to the event. Best to phone
the CAMS office on (02) 6935 1366 for your nearest scruitineer, usually the local motorsport type workshop, or somene might live in your area so you
can just work out a time to go to them at their home or where ever.
Basically, scruitineering covers safety, such as
- front end/steering no wobbles etc,
- seat firmly mounted,
- battery firmly mounted, -
-condition of seat belt, (a standard seat belt in a road car is fine)
- if you have a roll cage, you must use a harness type belt
-an approved helmet (for the speed /dirt events 99% of helmets sold in Aus are legal)
- a fire extinguisher within reach that is secureley mounted(you can use strong/wide cable ties to mount the bracket if you dont want to drill holes,
but DONT cable tie the extinguisher in!)
- & a secondry bonnet latch (an occy strap or a belt through the handle is fine)
-also a blue triangle 150mm sides to show battery location(blue elictrical tape will be fine) for the lap dash.
If you have any other questions about anything feel free to PM me or post them on here
Scruitineering will also be available on the day of the event in the morning, but you might have to wait in a que for a little while...

EVERY driver is guaranteed SIX runs consisting of a 3/4 of a lap warm up, 1 full flying lap & a 1/2 a lap cool down back into the pit lane.
Once everyone has done their 6, we will just keep on sending you out till you cant take it any more, or until 4.30pm, which ever comes first.
We will accept some entries on the day, but to keep(time consuming) paperwork to a minimum on the day we really would appreciate it if you can send in
the registration form at least a week before the event, which ever part of the Bug-In you want to come to.
p.s c'mon pete... you can do it!

If thats your Spyder in your avatar, then it should be fine. I have seen it around (boris' picnic?) & it looks like you have done CAMS events
before..
Basically as long as it has the list of things in my previous post covered you should have no worries!
Hope to see you out there

I'm working hard toward getting there. I need to lower the rear suspension, get alignment, etc, plus CAMS scrute, and the car will probaly need a
fair bit of 'set up' with swaybars and brake bias etc... but it'll be a fun day no matter what!

Not that many...just a couple of spares when the others need a rest.
One or two probs with the Type 3, and the car trailer - it didn't like the long haul to and from Portland. How's 8 stress fractures grab ya! It is
over 20 years old! Haven't given up yet.
Regardless, I'll be there, even though I make for a very poor spectator.

All sorted.
I just entered the Lap Dash and Motorkhana.
Here's a step by step guide:
1. go to http://www.nationalbugin.org.au
2. print out the entry form (Page 6 I think)
3. fill it in and fax it to Scott Harper (As per instructions on the bottom of the page)
4. total the costs for the events you want to enter (In my case $45 for motorkhana and $99 for lap dash)
5. send payment by EFT (Details on form)
6. Turn up at Oran Park at 7:30am for scrutineering
7. Recieve Supplementary Regulations and a written Drivers briefing on the day.
8. Have a blast. Top fun and good value!!!!!
According to Scott there will be AM and PM sessions in the Motorkhana and the Lap Dash will be running all day from about 9:30. For those who haven't
done the Oran Park North Circuit (Like Moi) you can do a familiarisation lap behind a course car and low speed.
I'll probably kick off at the Motokhana with a couple of runs and then head over to the Lap Dash and then back to the Motokhana. Or I'll just go
backwards and forwards depending on which has the shortes line.
I'd say the motokhana will be done in second and the north circuit in 3rd gear. The runs are short so engine or brake heat won't be a problem.
It should be great fun. I can't wait.
Well done to Scott and the others for organising the event. It's always a thankless task.

Anyone want to volunteer to make an 'unofficial' video?
Might be able to organise to show it at the presentation night...

Well it ended up being a great day, despite the ordinary weather. It cleared up ok & only had a shower later in the day.
All the motorsport action went off well, with everyone getting heaps of laps & having a good time. There were some quick VDubs out there! Quite a
few offs, but everyone drove themself back out again after a few unplaned do-nuts
The dirt circuit was more of a mud curcuit, but everyone seemed to have enjoyed the sideways stuff(except maybe the buggy guys who didnt have
doors/roof/windows.)
There is a few less flags left in the world now too, after they died an ungracefull death at the motorkhana skidpan.. who doesnt like handbrake
action?
BIG THANKS to all the Victorian crew who looked after the show'n' (not so) shine all day, reports I heard were all good.
Finally an EVEN BIGGER THANKS to all the organisers, timers, helpers & to all our fellow VDubbers who made the effort to support another Bug-In
despite waking up to a grey old day.

well i'm home again after a 27 hour round trip.............well worth it despite the weather which pretty much held off after (just!)10am...........
thanx to you Rick and please pass that on to all the other helpers as well, it sure was a big event to organise, where to next year, laps at Warricks
circuit???
there were certainly some quick beetles there trying in the slippery conditions which eventually dried out, well for the most part
Colins black super hillclimber was running strong for sure!, CT's car looked liked it handled really well, but unfortunately it's become too used to
the drags and suffered from carby shinanigans under cornering..........
Paul Zanello pulled his injected 2l out from under the covers and was running really hard........MMMMmm injeeection..........which leads to Rizzo and the rex powered pastitsi racer, couldn't hear the thing but copious
amounts of tyre smoke and "drifting angles" indicated just how much power was on tap.......ooodles!
"Sides" was running his car too, which looke dlike a sweet set up, but i missed his efforts.......ummm Wally Penbose looked like he was having a
ball on both the dirt and circuit and apparently also the Motorkahna which i never did get over to, because i was an "also ran" on the lapdash,
eventually calling it a day mid afternoon, before i broke anything. there were others out there as well, but i'm unsure of their names and car
details
it was nice to meet and also catch up to you all
will the times and results be posted some where?

my bum is numb and for the most part i'm deaf........
but for the haul down and back with bouncing off the 6800rpm limiter in between, i lost one tinwear screw that i could see........it surprised me actually! got 220km out of 20litres fuel on the
freeway, happy with that!.......
had a "fueling up" issue on the later run or two around the sweeping left ......

Lap Dash run down (Long version)
First, thanks to the Nepean Valley Car Club and the Officials for the pre-event organisation and for standing on their feet all day to allow us hoons
to belt around on slippery wet pavement.
There was plenty of tail-out action in the lap dash and a few spins. But no cars were damaged which is credit to the drivers and officials.
The entry on to the Yokohama Bridge was particularly slippery. There was also a big bump and a puddle right at the first section of the corner which
was tricky, but crucial. The timing beam was at the start of the bridge so you needed a good run out of this corner to start the lap and to finish it
off.
The times are listed on Natsoft but the vehicles aren’t. I’ll list the ones I know:
1st 37.66 Paul Wagner Clubman (PRB or similar)
2nd 38.44 Paul Zanello VW Bug White (Great to see this car and driver out of retirement for the event. A tough and spectacular combination)
3rd 39.51 Chris Quick Nissan GT (Not sure of the model)
4th 39.66 CT Hansen VW Bug Oval Grey (More on my day below)
5th 39.78 Jak Rizzo VW Superbug Purple (Jak and I usually within a 10th of a second of each other! Jak did the smokiest tyre burning pit exit and the
biggest “He’s lost it, no he hasn’t, yes he has, no he hasn’t, yes he has, no he hasn’t” moment of the day)
43.09 Damien Pell aka dumone (The 1776 we watched Damien build goes hard and sounds awesome. Damien gave his nice looking 60 something swinger a good
wriggle. I saw him lock the rears and hang the tail out. Nice!)
43.87 Colin Mayman VW Hillclimb Bug (Black Beauty II, III or IV (I’m not sure). The prettiest car on the track! Colin said it hadn’t seen a corner
yet because it has only competed at the Warwick drags since it was built. The car’s first corner was in the recce, the familiarisation lap, at 60,
behind a pace car. And he looped it coming onto the bridge. Too funny! But the car sounded tough, fast and surprisingly composed for its first real
outing. Just quietly COLIN YOU NEED NEW TYRES!)
44.18 Dave Sidery Black, Blue err Purple VW Hillclimb Bug (Looked good, sounded good, well done for making the trip down from QLD. Unfortunately it
developed a gearbox selector problem late in the day)
There were 32 competitors in all. I think about 8 or 10 were VWs. A bit of a dismal turn-out, it would’ve been nice to see some of the
hillclimbers.
The Motokahana was too tight for road registered cars. I should’ve entered my remote control car!
My day wasn’t the smooth sailing I’ve come accustomed to with my Oval. In the first timed run it seemed to flood (with fuel) and run poorly in the
series of 3 left-handers coming off the bridge. In the second run I tried a bit harder and the engine went from 4500 rpm in third to a complete stall.
I restarted it down the back straight and pulled into the pits where I noticed a tiny amount of fuel on the wet road. A few of us inspected the engine
bay but it didn’t smell like fuel and we couldn’t see fuel anywhere.
I’ve always set the float levels to weber 44idf specs (As per the rebuild kit). I thought that perhaps the long series of corners is causing the
fuel to splash out of the float bowl and down the throats over-richening the air fuel ratio and causing the engine to stall?
So I pulled the carb tops off and lowered the float levels about 5mm (apparently a bit drastic). I put the carbs back together and we headed over to
check out the motokhana. The car ran like absolute crap on the idle circuit (Below 3000rpm). I tried a slalom and it ran like crap and the fuel
flooding problem was still there and the engine stalled half way through the run.
We bailed out of the motokhana. Jak head back to the lap dash and I headed back to the pits (Grass paddock) to pull the carbs apart again. The tops of
the carbs (Below the air filter base) weren’t wet with fuel so I didn’t really think the fuel was splashing out of the float bowl. The only thing
I could think of was either a dodgy float or a sticking needle and seat. Fortunately I had some new 2.0 needle and seats in the spares kit. If the
problem was flooding you’d think it was going to be worse with the 2.0s, which offer more flow and keep the float higher, than the 1.75 needle and
seats I was taking out. Or the problem was going to be fixed if the existing needle and seats were going to be dodgy. I reset the floats to a Bee’s
Willy lower than standard.
I put it all back together and started it up. It still sounded rough. But I figured out that was caused by 2 blocked idle jets. So I cleared those
after a bit of moral support from Mick058. By then Jak had finished his 6 runs and was about to pack up. I was going to pack up too, but first decided
to drive down to the toilets to splash the boots. After a moment of clarity I thought I might as well get out on the track to see if I fixed the
problem. There’s nowhere else I could test it. Because the flooding problem has only ever occurred on the North Circuit and this was the first time
I’d done it.
So I lined up and had a go and there was no problem. So I lined up for a second run. The car was running a little rough just before I left. But a boot
full of throttle, a back fire and a few bounces off the rev limiter leaving the pits was all it needed. I had a pretty good run which resulted in the
time above. I had one more run, and was the last car to run. I was pretty pumped and came way too fast off the bridge to make the apex of the second
left hander, I ran wide and lost all my speed, but the car was moving around on the wet patches, which was fun anyway.
The car purred like a kitten all the way home like all the coughing and farting it was doing earlier never happened.

Had a great time at the Bug in,good to catch with everybody.Car suffered from a dodgy battery for the event which restricted the MSD to sending spark
up to only 5300rpm it was like the rev limiter being set at 5300rpm oh well another lession learnt. But had a ball anyway CT and Jaks car looked great
and Damien Pells car with its little 1776 screamer went fantastic. Good to see Paul Zanello give his car a run also.
Cheers Col
