Use solvent (workshop solvent is clear and kinda like petrol but dissolves grease and other crap) or carby cleaner. use can use it all over the engine
as long as you dont run it for a few hours to be safe. it evaporates within a few minutes. solvent is very good... cleaned many gearboxes and rocker
covers at mazda with it. looking good mate.

thanks man yeah i used a bit of kero on them which seemed to work alright.
got the parts yesterday! o h yeah now the fun begins... i love
parts stashes
started a mock up of carbs on the manifolds on one side of engine...
do i locktite these studs to the manifolds or what?
the throttle shaft spring/ butterfly opener mechanism was just catching on the manifold so had to do some clearancing with the file...
went to test fit tops and air filters but there is a thing sticking up that stops the air cleaner base plate from sitting down flat...
cant see it in the dellorto tech book.. does anyone know what its for? or hjow i can get it off?

getting close
ok have finished bolting it all together tonight... now just have to adjust linkage and add the fuel lines and shes ready to go.
changed the venturis over to 28mm from 32mm and set idle and mixture control so hopefully the jetting will be ok
regarding the chokes i dismantled them and then screwed the cover piece back on seperately to cover the hole

i think there is more chance it will run smoother with the 28mm vents rather than the 32's as it is only a stock engine with the stock cam. we'll
see how it goes and if it is too tame i might switch to the 32s then..
what do you think?

ok it is already to go back in and i have a few questions about jetting the carbs correctly for the engine...
the carbs are setup at the moment with 28mm venturis, 180 Main/air, 135 Main/Gas, 52 Idle Gas, 33 Acc/Pump.
does this formula sound alright for a mostly sock 1600?
here is the engine ready to go back in..
also what do i do with this pipe coming from the oil filler that originally went to the oil bath air cleaner?
fuel lines done
is this fuel filter suitable?
blocked off the right side double banjo with a screw with a piece of fuel hose and a hose clamp..
planning to put it back in tomorrow so we'll see how it goes!

Eh. I thought you told me it was a 1500..... nevermind.
Is that fuel line the same as the original??? I much prefer the genuine stuff.... i think it lasts longer... If the filter ends fit in the lines....
your all sweet. that filter is from a carby laser/323
looks good. why dont you paint your exhaust while its out?

Put some wire on those fuel lines whilst you can. Last thing you want is one of them slippling off (especially if its had E10 in it).
Looking good
Cheers

Wire??? I'm failing to know what you mean by that....
Izac, you could put a breather box off the oil line... Of a breather of some kind. Don't block it off.
I can probs get you one second hand for cheap...

"my opinion" for a 1600 i would have left the 32's in there
If is also Jon from ACnet's opionin as well
1600 Option - http://www.aircooled.net/new-bin/viewproductdetail.php?keyword2=FSK0020&c...
"We will configure your dual 40 or 44 IDFs for optimum use. We change the venturis to 32mm, and rejet the idle, main, and air jets for this
price"
For some reason others promote 28 in there but i have never seen a set run properly set up that way
Main should be 4 to 4.2 x the venturi size
so .........
28 = 115 main
32 = 130-135 main
Airs - add 50-60 to this
Idles is what your engine wants
My webers wanted 45's
Personally i reckon 52's is a tad big - when you find "best lean" you wont turn out as far.
See how that goes - maybe the idles wont block up as much as mine did
So - your jets are set up for 32 venturis not 28's
You should either change back or get some different main jets and air jets
Have a read here as well
http://www.aircooled.net/gnrlsite/resource/articles/jetting.htm
Get your self a goos synrcometer as well
like the "new style" one listed here
http://www.aircooled.net/new-bin/viewproductdetail.php?keyword2=TZE0021&c...
then read here
http://www.aircooled.net/gnrlsite/resource/articles/dualcarb.htm
Have fun

thanks for your help Bizzare
i am considering changing the vents back to 32s before i put it in... so you dont think 32s with this jetting combo will be to much for the little
whippersnapper do you?
thanks Steve, i will pur some zip ties round the fuel lines if thats what you mean..

Would you rather the rather the genuine fuel line?? Its only like $8 a meter... Its heaps better for VW's IMO.... I used the single braid/ double
rubber line for a few months, and its not really that great... but lucky its not a huge deal to change it over. Was I right about the filter??? (im
sure its the old KE model filter...)
this is what im going to have for my oil
breather setup ..... im going a bit different to usual, its not going to vent the tappet covers, just from the filler and one air cleaner.... cheap
and easy
