gotta get the stub pipes on soon so that I can seal the long block up as best as I can.
gonna have to relocate to another country with work soon - the fun just never stops!
bit of a bugger really, but Construction is slowing down a bit here in Dubai.
that will make four countries for this car and still hasnt had an engine in it!

I am in Construction and my wife is an Architect.
We have been in Melbourne all our lives until a few years ago.
In Dubai for 2 years, now looks like time to move on.
Car started in Argentina, I bought it from a guy in Miami, Florida, then got shipped to Dubai.
We are disappointed to go, we wanted to be here for a few more years.
I have been working in and out of Oman for the last few months, and now heading off to somewhere new again
good thing we've got no kids.

I got the LE 200's as well, and match ported to the manifolds.
I am sure that its gonna move along pretty well, and with a 10.5:1 CR, 80 stroke and Tangerine exhaust, I m gonna need some big rubber out back
hehehe

custom chasis, called a JVA. suspension is based around a VW Gol out of Brazil (started in Argentina, remember) I have found Audi fox parts tend to be
used in the suspension but lots of custom bits.
made some progress lately. will get some new pics up soon.
Big shout out to Dave Butler. Got a few stories to tell there with some of the hybrid parts he has made up for me, but alls well that ends well.
pics soon......

Well so much for a week or so. More like a month or so, but better late than never:
mocked up, not mounted properly yet. here it is set up in the car so that I could work out what is needed to modify to get it all mounted
iin this one you can see the CDI box, coil and the leather straps which I have added
here is the breather from Chris Foley

access panel from the cockpit should it be needed.
you can see the engine is sitting on a block of wood for now.
gonna drop it about 2-3 inches to get the 914 mount fixed, but gotta weld up the mounting base for it to fix to

I assume that I need to plug them.... right? what with?
did I forget something? probably.

and some of the pretty bits now that the mechanical stuff is done:
and the last one is the picture of the spare bed, with a tonneau cover, cowl/faring, grills and one of my newly arrived seats (cobra SR's, in
burgundy leather, mmmmm)
gotta love having this inside. 50 degrees outside and I can work in airconditioned comfort!

WOW!
Looks great Kim,
it is really progressing now!
I think those hoes are for some sort of diagnostic or vent.
Type ones and WBX had the one in the RHS for a FW sensor.
They probably had plugs in them from the factory if they were sensors, but I would not worry.
One of the type4ophiles will let you know I am sure.

That's a fine looking car there Kim. What did you use for the rear uprights - they look the part.
Finished a similar project about 5 years ago, using a Beck kit. Mine has a 911T engine (yes, I had to re-make the firewall), and a 5-speed box from a
914. Fabricated double wishbones & uprights at the rear with ball joint VW front beam. I grafted 356 brakes on all round (I like drums - except
the crap ones that BREAK)!
If you get the rear suspension geometry right (friend Errol Richardson did mine) the car will handle like a dream - I drive mine regularly. Wise move not going for trailing arms.
I've almost given up trying to post pics on here, but if you PM your email address, I can send you some pics of my 550, incl. progress shots.
Cheers, Greg
I'd rather wear a Beetle out by racing it than by polishing it!

and now for the 8-10 month update. been a bit too long, but dont worry, lots has happened....
dug up this thread after a while and great to see the old pics
lots of progress has been made, as well as a baby girl, so updates got put on hold
have done the following (or had the following done):
chassis modified for
-berg mid mount
-vw end mount
-914 engine mount
-wilwood discs
-tangerine exhaust
soulds easy, but beleive me, much easier to write than to do
then:
installed engine
installed box
intalled brakes (wilwoods up front, golf at back)
installed cable shifter
plumbed brakes
installed tangerine exhaust
installed tangerine breather
installed custom axles 'shims' to allow standard length swayaways
installed custome 'stub axles' to convert t1 axle flange to golf wheel hubs (lol - used bicycle inner tubes for outer cv covers to avoid binding on
bottom of shock towers)
installed reverse theaded adjustors to allow ease camber changes to rear end
installed custom remote oil cooler mount for setrab
installed 'cobra' red leather sets on custom (can you say LOW) mounts, and still I can see over the windscreen.....
bolted it all up
with jakes engine (kit) and a kick arse exhaust (but god, the fitment is nigh on impossible) this thing is now mechanically complete and looking
awesome
i am also very confident about my choice of wheels when previously I was a little unsure
judge for yourself in a few days
pics to follow over the weekend

well thats all changed now, but a baby girl has not put a dent in our travelling habits. she is six months old and has been in six countries
already...
now you know why I have not had time to post pics
this is the reason, taken on a recent trip to japan. and yes we where there when it hit. thankfully flew out that night so were not affected (out of
osaka, not tokyo)

remember, this thing was built in the spare bedroom of a very large house that has be subdivided up into apartments, so not only does it require an
understanding wife, guests who are happy to sleep in the same room as a car, but understanding neighbours too.
here is the room where it was
ramp being built with the help of my friend peter
and the neighbours toy tucked under the stairs.
this helps the situation greatly was he has built a few toys himself too.

this took a few weeks but was worth it as the babies room is now much improved and the house is more comfortable

here is a pic showing the front brakes
overkill yes, but was the only set that i found that I could make fit without major modification to chassis
they are a kit made for mk2 gti golf. vented but not drilled. should be more than enough
remember platform is based on brazilian "gol" so most early 80s vw/audi small car parts fit, but you never quite know

working our way back from the front, here are the cobra sr seats, which I had trimmed in leather with black piping and sent from the uk.
also got an extra matching hide from the same material and had the helmet fairing re-tirimmed as well as a bunch of other bits so that it all
matches
leather was chosen to match the vinyl tonneau cover too
