Last minute mechanics
Well, I thought I just had to do a few little things like replace the front oil cooler and check the clutch and accelerator cables.
That snowballed into making new copper lines front to rear with threaded fittings which I could supposedly, like a plumber, just solder together,
Nope, the solder doesn't take to brass.
Then I pulled out 2 perfectly good cables and decided to rebuild the peddle box, none of which needed doing. God that clutch cable and peddle box work
is frustrating and back breaking when you're in a 30 degree garage.
So I don't have any oil in the car, I'm flat out at work and supposed to be leaving for Tamworth on Thursday morning.
There, now I feel like part of the gang, or just a drama queen. It hardly rates a mention with Das's respray and Westi's engine rebuild. But then
again they haven't seen how slow I work.
See you at Warwick, CT

sounds spookily familiar CT...........
should be able to "silver solder" those fittings with a bit of flux........done it a few times.
i also like to use the 1/2 inch "hydraulic" style rubber lines, they're a little smaller on the o.d, more durable material and take a tighter
radius turn better too

Hi Daimo,
I gave up the oxy bottles a while ago because the rental was ridiculous for the amount of times I'd actually use the things. I thought I'd simply
solder with a butane torch, but I don't think it heats the brass fittings up enough.
I gave them to a korean bloke at an engineering place today who only knows one word of "engrish". He said okay and I said okay and hopefully the
rest of the job is self-explanatory and the result is oil tight.
I'll have to do a 2 hour round trip to work on my car after a long day tomorrow, yay.
How are your preparations going?

Well Troy is gearing up to drive the car home from the dyno and pull engine out tomorrow in a bit of a marathon effort. reckons he could do in a day
and a half easy. It is one very big jigsaw puzzle that has to go together one way.
as for me one stripped exhaust stud is giving me grief as we were so close to firing it up for the first time.
I can feel a few late nights/early mornings coming on......

Just got the inside of the oval painted tonight. Bit of sleep and then need to get the outside shot tomorrow.....so for anyone going to warwick please
don't look too closely at the paint on my oval and Brad's (blup58) beetle as they were both rush jobs - having a non operational booth and
insufficient lighting doesn't help to stop the number of runs I've managed to achieve blah blah, excuses excuses I know.
Brad is back down tomorrow night after work to try and get his engine ancillaries back on (Dave has upped the compression on his 2110 out of the
ghia)...put the solid mounts in the stock gearbox in last night (anyone taking a spare swinger box by any chance as we have no idea if this one even
has all the gears - big gamble!). Line lock went in the that bug when Brad was down yesterday along with new stainless fuel line. Fuel pump in
tomorrow and then do a quick rewire (luckily not a street car that needs all those extra wires!). Then general reassembly like doors, windows etc etc
on both bugs. I need to get the shroud etc onto Rod's 1916 which has kindly lent me (if I break it I'll fix it Rod!).
So like CT, I seem to be great at creating unnecessary work for myself (and Brad)...I guess a show/event like this provides a good impetus to get jobs
done (like painting the oval) that I've been putting off for ages!

yeah well, hardly repainting or engine rebuild (Al i think i officially hate you now ), but like everyone, i've aimed to do twice the work for the hours available it even took two goes to get tappet cover seals oil
tight ........the "luxury" maintaince jobs and modifications
(which were as grand as a 5 speed box and hydralic clutch install a week ago) have been put aside for now and it will be fine tuning in the pits. i
swear i'm starting '09 preps as soon as i get home.............just happy i'll be on track this year after missing out by a week last year
it's 3am at the mo and i'm up looking after a "chucking" child...........oh joy!...........so preps might have started and ended with a tappet
adjustment yesterday ........gotta love a daily driver!
if only we could all afford these thrills without having to work in between to pay for it all!
CT did you see the dyno day results ?................. i'm ready for the 99HP fat bug showdown this year
all good fun tho, any excuse to run around with the stinger barking for a couple of days, exited!

After Wayne's effort I'm no longer going to complain about creating work for myself!
I'm sure it wasn't simply a case of whip the turbo off and bolt the blower on before the tea gets cold.
I'm looking forward to Warwick even more now.
BTW the Korean welder did a brilliant job attaching the brass fittings to the copper pipe. He knows another two words of english "thirty"
"dollar". I wish others were so easy to deal with!

tonights update from WPVW
THE WPVW SPORTS SEDAN HAS HAD THE FRONT END REPAIRED FROM THE MINOR ALTERCATION AT VALLA WITH THE TYRE WALL . THE FRONT GUARDS AND BUMPER HAVE ALL
BEEN REPAIRED AND PAINTED AND FITTED TONIGHT .
HOWEVER , THE NEWLY REPAIRED FRONT END NEARLY BECAME UNREPAIRED WHEN YOUNG BEN THE APPRENTICE AT WPVW TOOK THE SPORTS SEDAN FOR A QUICK SQUIRT AND
FOUND HIMSELF VERY SIDEWAYS WHEN IT TURNED THE TYRES IN 3RD GEAR . TO HIS CREDIT HE GOT OFF IT REALLY QUICK AND CONTROLLED THE CAR BEAUTIFULLY . I DO
BELIEVE THAT A QUICK CHANGE OF UNDERWEAR WAS IN ORDER FOR HIM.....

tonights update from WPVW
THE PROBLEMS WITH THE SUPERCHARGED ENGINE IN THE OVAL HAVE BEEN SORTED AND IT IS ALSO READY TO GO TO WARRICK .
IT LOOKS QUITE SPECTACULAR TO SEE 4 LARGE BLUE METHANOL FLAMES COMING FROM THE PIPES AS IT ACCELERATES DOWN THE STREET .
LOOKS AND SOUNDS LIKE A TOP FUELER . . . . .AND IT ALL FITS UNDER THE ENGINE LID .
A FEW QUICK SQUIRTS SEEN THE ENGINE TURNING TO 8400RPM AND FEELING STRONG . THIS ENGINE IS JUST 1642cc .. . . . .

Brad's "mystery project" will debut at Warwick. It was started on Sep10 and has been good fun. Brad was down till arond 1am again tonight to get
the fuel pump in, remaining fuel line, seat, guages etc....still lots to go and gearbox is and unknown so could be our sticking point if it is no
good....may have to find and take a spare to warwick just in case!
