Well I'd love to see 'em Marcus, I was busy pedaling the Hillbilly Racer, no chance of video from me....Did any one have a camera? And if it was you Lisa......cough up:lol:

Well happy times had by me.

Big thankyou to Col for as usual being Mr Scrounging Can-do Man!!!
Also to John 'blue vision' Ghiaman for the luxury T5 tow vehicle, if not for his offer the hillbilly racer wasn't going to attend the event. The turbo diesel certainly made the trip easy, so much so, we nearly forgot the trailer was on the back. Had to be careful to remember while changing lanes:!:

Enroute to willowbank we managed to fit some second hand M/T street slicks....WOW . Heaps better than your OLD worn G-grids Col :!: These tyres although not improving 60ft's by much (.2s), made the car smoother and much more consistant. We spent the 4 runs getting pressures sorted and leaving the line without spinning too much. 2nd pass we were spinning in 1st and 2nd .

Col also helped out when we tried to fit the mt's at the track....bloody Murphy....had clearance issues with the inside side wall interfering with adj spring plates....nothing that an angle grinder that the scrounger found could'nt fix.

First run against Stanley saw the 1600 dust the 2332, but by 1/2 track the smoke screen he put out couldn't stop the charge down in the deep end, my 101 mph against the 'running out of oil' 88 mph, but was not quite enough for the win..doh!

3rd pass against a hot HR, I got the win and a thumbs up from the driver as I slowed to give right of way to the inside line to the return road....You gotta love taking a win in a dak dak.

Buy the end of the evening, we ran a 13.144 @ 104.24 mph :-).

Shame the clutch cable broke (guess I'll have to fix the bodgy pedal hook), we felt a 12.90 was definately possible on run #5.....next time.

Any pics out there, please post.

Cheers
Matt

Car was definately on song Matt and getting better with each run. Bit more fine tuning set up plus some weight reduction and some of Col's tape magic and I reckon a possible 12.80 in there!!! Conditions were pretty good track was good and air temps weren't hot in the arvo and were actually quite nice at night.

Stanley have we had an in depth look at your engine yet?? Be keen to see what was top cause and effect.

don't know yet. Will have a look after Christmas. Have to build the trailer to tow it with first.
Although I did start it. Started ok but didn't sound happy. Missing and coughing. Maybe busted rings or a hole in a piston. Damn second hand pistons. Time will tell.

Well done Matt. It was good to see the hillbilly racer trucking on.

Thanks Matt, it was a top time. I recon if you'd let me polish something on the car you would have got into the 12's. Though I did appreciate learning just what the 'Col-look' is!! Might need to get the sand paper and over spray look happening on the ghia!?

FYI 12hr + 520kms round trip = top VW outing.

Race Report , 1st /run all felt good with lots of wheel spin (6000 on 2step) 1.67 60ft ,just shifted gear by feel , 11.63 at 116.70.
2/ run ,short burn out then dry hopped ,felt real good but after car moved the engine flaired up (clutch slip) , just ran through slow .
3/ run ,backed clutch off 2 turns and crossed fingers ,all so put more timeing in as well ( 32 to 34) . Short burnout ,straight in to stage (6000 on 2step) 1.63 60ft then went in to wheelstand ,all very messy after that ,but I chased the mph at topend 116.49 . Car was fine for feeling (to drive )but rear brakes very poor .
Track was poor early but was getting better , 77% H , around 1000 R Air ,30deg track temp .

Rods car was fine at home but after we put 48ida on trailer a oil leak appeared fromed bellhouseing area .New things wasn't fine but a bit more driving around pits problem was not worse . Headed to start line for a run , after burnout Rod noticed oil presure near 0 . New motor befor that seemed strong so I'll pull motor out over christmas and have a look .

Hey Daimo, thanks.
Car ran great, driver a bit rusty but.

104.25 mph... she's really truck'in in the top end, felt sh1t hot :-)

Yes Rod's new crate job was in blue car, but as said, oil pressure dropped alarmingly after burnout so home for diagnosis...bummer

Sorry you didn't make it up, new flash tranny & all.
