Working towards Wakefield

I'm about 90% sure I'll make it to the Supersprint.

Well done for Club Veedub to organize it. I hope we get enough entrants.

I did a 1:16.0 at Wakefield back in 2003. I haven't run there in a few years and didn't beat that time until the Dutton Rally in 2007 where I managed a 1:15.0. Hopefully a 1:14 is on the cards.

It's a great track. My favourite.

Jake's in. Paul is a maybe. Hopefully Colin can get the day off. Rod Penrose is building a car for the event, from scratch. Rudi is in. John Ladomatos might be an outside chance too in his recently built L bug.

I suggest everyone gets to Goulburn on Friday arvo and we all go out to dinner or for a drink on Friday night? How about it?

did someone mention drink? i'm up for that.

It would be good to get as many cars down there on friday as possible. That way we could do some pre event scrutineering and start earlier. The earlier we start the more runs we get,

The event is scheduled to start at 9:30. That is going to be a tough ask if we cant get a lot of cars scrutineered beforehand. That is the aim though. The event will finish at 4:30. Cant really go beyond that because Club VW need to get back to farifield to set up for the show.

Its approx 1.5 hours yes, and spectators are invited to come and check it out.

Check out the event website http://www.clubvw.org.au/supersprint
It has a list of entrants so far. At this point in time its current as of Tuesday.

Re the crack about the cost of the event, I think you will find it is on par with other events of this nature. Ask Greg Ward or Glenn Torrens how much they paid to run at the Bathurst Hillclimb and how much track time they got for their money. 4 x 30 odd seconds. They'll get over 4 minutes per run at Wakefield for a similar price. Ask people how much they pay for Warwick and how much track time they get. I think you find that the Club VW SuperSprint is bloody good value by comparison. Club VW wont be making any money out of the event. They need 33 just to pay for the track hire. Add cost of ambulance, rescue and recovery, cams affiliation, permits, trophies etc.

obviously never had any motorsport experience before. $22 for go karting doesn't count.

I'd pay even more if it was asked, purely for the fact that it's a vw event. In 11 years of supersprints I have never done a vw organised event.
My recolections have to go all the way back to the mid 90's, watching Craig, the Mullers, Stan etc at Amaroo. It was one of the best things I had ever watched, shits all over the drags.

Massive thanks has to go to Dave, Amazer & club veedub for sticking their necks out.

regards
Jak

pS should see how much the Porshce club charge.........& it doesn't include a porsche in the entry fee.

just done a quick search on google, first page of results only.

19th Oct HSV ran supersprint $140, 4 laps
15th Feb AROC ran supersprint $170 3 laps
8 March WRX club ran supersprint $150 entry fee, 3 laps
19th Apr NSWRRC ran supersprint $130 members/$150 for non members 4 laps
5th May MX5 club will run a supersprint, $150, 4 laps.
23rd May ClubVW $150, 4 laps.

We're running the normal amount of laps, for a normal price.

$150 was the cheapest sprint I've come across down here (vic) of late. Looks like damned good value to me, unfortunately I will be really struggling to make it :(

Went down to Wakefield yesterday for a bit of a reconnaissance run to Wakefield yesterday. Superb venue. Almost no chance of hitting anything solid. You'd have to have the most monumental 100m tank slapper to hit the only armco wall which is along pit lane. There's heaps of undercover pit garages, unlike at Oran Park. The food from permanent cafeteria is easily edible, unlike most race tracks. There's proper seating and clean toilets unlike most tracks. Even a kids playground apparently, though I didnt see it.

There is only one problem. Lack of entries. There's only 3 weeks to go, If you are going to do it, you need to do it soon. Dont forget the early entry fee runs out in 2 weeks. You'll be hit an extra $30 after that. The number of entries is disappointing so far. The number of entries received from all sources is less than the expressions of interest received from this forum alone.

I'm on my knees begging, please spread the word about the event to anyone who might be half interested in turnng up. Doesnt have to be a Volkswagen, any make of car is welcome to come along.

Double posting this on the other supersprint thread but...

If you are holding off on sending forms in for the supersprint while you wait for licence or club membership details, there's no need. Send the forms off now with blank spaces or tba in fields you dont know and we can sort it out later. Its more important at the moment that we know the numbers of competitors than licence numbers.

Cheers
