Great vid Rose, watched it yesterday. It's the air cooled guys that didn't make the vid or missed having their hp figures posted on the vid. Did vwcool run? What did Laurie's type 4 make....

VWCOOL'S it's just an old bug he picked up with oversized barrells so he freshened it up and I sold him some old kadrons that he just bolted on to have some fun in to race. He had it at Valla.

For the record, my engine is NOT a current-spec Pobjoy, it is cobbled together from 20-year-old bits

Given the conditions (41C as I drove into the dyno driveway - not real good for grunt!) and my current state of tune, I'm pretty happy with "65hp" from my $1000 junker! I can drift it at 60MPH - gotta be happy with that!

The old dude in the hand painted hammer coat grey semi automatic stock standard from memory showed 58hp and surprised most watching. He saw an add for the day at the Belmont VW shop. After his run he jumoed into his car and off he went. Like the wind........

That is excellent power.
What mods are done?
I assume it has at least an aftermarket exhaust?

Dangerous, I was chatting to Brendan about his car and he was saying that it is a stock 1300 with standard carbie, from memory it looked to have standard exhaust also. He put it on the dyno and pulled off that number....I remember turning to Brendand and saying I dont think its a stocker!!!

BAT69.. well said. I cant understand why people have to keep bringing up the pobjoy thing. At the end of the day it is an old VW motor who cars who built it, whats in it and the number it pulls....its just a number. Not to discredit VW engines at all, but in reality most of the street VWs at the dyno day are all within 25 hp of each other anyway (example Brendans stock 1300 with 56 and a 2.3 efi with 75 or 80 odd)..and even then do not go anywhere near the outputs of other modern engines. I think if your into VW's you should be happy for anyone that has had a go.
As far as melting heads, although not a pobjoy engine, CT runs his with high compression and the temp guage gets of the scale on the track and he has not had any problems in years.

Cheers

The funny think is that Glen's kadrons came off my old engine that I had heaps of fun with, there was no killing it.

Both of those (stock beetles) with the 50 + hp did sound heaps good on the dyno.

Rose's work to arrange a great day where those that bothered, or could, get there had a great time is being ruined by all this roid rage.
Except it for what it was. A day out with like minded people and burnt snags. That doesn't happen too often up this way.
Chill out........

Looks to me like everyone that showed up had a fantastic day.

The graphs showing the exhaust mixture is a big plus in my book,
that alone may be worth th drive down next time.

Although I have burnt my snag on a barby once before, so not to keen on that.
Who designed them at that height anyhow?!

Good effort to organize such an event Rose and Ian.

Thanks Dave. Sounds good. It would be good to see your car on the dyno. Rob didn't burn all the snags :lol:

You can call in on the way down to Portland for a coffee if you like.

I bought the beetle box stock as far as I am aware 7 yrs ago. Its a 72 1300 poverty pack, still had its drum brakes all round (which had never been machined), standard peashooter exhaust & oil bath air cleaner, so I cant see the reason why anything else internally would have been modified.

Only mods to the engine that I have done are late model air cleaner with K&N element, aftermarket exhaust, 034 distributor (which is supposed to have the same advance curve as the 009 but also has vacumn advance) with a basic pertronix or compufire (cant remember which one) ignition module. Ran it on Caltex 98 vortex for the day with 32 degrees maximum advance.

This is the exhaust I'm running.
http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/kk307/VLK55Y/A1STAINLESSGT2.jpg

If I go to the next dyno day might downsize the main jet to see what happens as far as air fuel ratio is concerned. Or I might have been inspired to try a few more bolt on goodies. We'll see what happens I guess.

Cheers
Brendan

Instead of arguing about what combo or engine builder is better, why don,t we applaud ALL the guys that compete in speed events.

They are ALL representing these little cars we ALL love.

My 2ltr n/a engine got 94Hp!!! It was built by someone in the Subaru factory in Japan, perhaps with the aid of robot.

Seriously though, all these arguments over power outputs, you can really only compare power outputs of two different cars on the same dyno. Different dyno's display different results, people even fudge the figures on the output of the dyno's. I will only truly believe one car has more output than another if its on the same dyno, same day, same operator, with the same configuration.

finally got around to getting my dyno sheet. Red was the first run at 185 hp with 10:1 A/F under boost and 82 degree intake temps. Blue was the second run after pulling some fuel out of the map under boost, got a little out of it at 192 hp with 11:1 A/F and 86 degree intake temps, did sacrifice a little down low, so may have pulled to much fuel at on the lower revs under boost..still has 150hp at around 4000rpm which is good for the track as I normally sit between 4000-6000 rpm.

Would be nice to have adyno for a full day and get things 100%.... or a stock ECU!!

Cheers

Rose

Next time you get to run this event could you please do the following and for any other dyno day this will help

make a list of all the entrants and include the following

Car type and redgo number, engine type, capacity, blown NA or injected, perhaps a pic of each car so we can identify whos who on the rollers

eg DB2882 bug, type 1, 1916 , injected this will help others when choosing what type of mods to do to there own car

Great work and a BIG effort to getting it all together

Will do for next time. This was just for a bit of fun we didn't realise it would be such a success and have so many actually turn up. So the next one should be a lot better and it will go a lot longer and have some extra runs as well. As it was to hot to stay around that day.

I did put up a video so you can see the hp that matches the car and you can hear which ones are subies.

Hope to see you all there for our Winter Dyno Day maybe Jun or Jul need to find a date that doesn't clash with other events.
