Hey Aaron, thanks man, it's good to hear from you dude. It's definantly starting to take shape although D.B. is just making me look good at the moment  and looking very nice Dave by the way. This buggy won't be ready for Warwick but I will be racing my yellow buggy again with the new and improved 1641cc engine!

See you there!

Cheers Dave!

YES, today was a very busy day and all sorts of deliveries of spiffy parts came.

Unfortunately I had to wait until the end of the day to unpack things:

http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n216/dangerous_05/IMG_2046.jpg

These are for swingaxle,
but I also got in a couple of Billet IRS side covers too.
....pretty nice!

Today I set up the crownwheel and pinion.
First i set the pinion depth and backlash to factory specs:

This is the drive side:

This is the coast side:

I then replaced the stock diff centre(required to ise the VW genuine tools),
and reset the backlash to .004".
This moved the "drive" pattern more toward the nose, but the pics i took weren't as clear as the above pics.

Also today added an extra stud to the side cover,
and made up a modified clutch fork and bronze bush,
so that i could squeze in the L Bug clutch fork and arm(fat 20mm size),
into the Rhino case that normally only fits the 16mm shaft.

Like this one:

Lots of cleaning and setting up of gearstacks,
but more pics tomorrow!

Unfortunately my Camera has died with all the pics on it.
I was able to use a mobile phone and send a couple to my email address.....but they are small.

The gear stacks are using the Albins 3.0/2.0 gears,
and 1800 bus gears for 3rd and 4th, and look like this:

Note the chromoly pinion bearing retainer to stop pinion movement.

The reverse gear was narrowed to clear the wider 2nd gear:

Awesome Work Dave! I will be picking this box up tomorrow,I will have to source some Heavy Axles, then clean up the axle tubes and fit them. Mean while I have dropped off the adjusters needed for my front end too custom vee dub and will have that back next week, this thing will be rolling before i know it!

Any advice on Axles would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers Dave!

I did speak with ERCO regarding SAW axles, and he said both themand the EMPI are both made in china.
He said the EMPI is better than the chnese SAW, but probably only good enough for a 12 second car....but still way better than stock.

Apparently RANCHO have somehing in the works, but that will be some time.

The other option is the KARPIOLA from Finland I think.

Rims

Hey guy's, just thought I'd throw up a pic of the rims I just purchased from Rodney! They are 15x4 fronts and 15x6 rear, spun alloy outer with Billet center's. He's also sending up a Scat solid mount kit so I can get these wheels on!
Also mounted pedals and shifter in stock position for now, I may move It all back, just got to wait and see how much room I will have for the extensive cage going in.
Feels pretty good actually so I may just leave it.

More pic's soon, Cheers Dave!

Wheels on!

Hey Guy's, update time. I have mounted the box with the Scat solid mount kit I got from Rodney and have just the front and rear mounts in at the moment with the 'Mid' mount only bolted to the gear box. I will weld this onto the forks of the floor pan then simply unbolt the gear box from the mount to remove it. The front mount will only be used to line it up then it will be removed as there is no need for it. I have just put the stock axles in for now and will be upgrading them along with the brakes later on$$$$$! kind of at my limit for a while.

I also have the front end adjusters in, however I think I need the dropped spindles aswell?

Here are some pics of the gear box mount's and the car on some old rims!

Yes Mick, that is as low as she'll go and it has a 20L drum of diesel under the bonnet. The dropped spindles will allow me to drop the car further but then wind the adjusters off the bump stops and gain at least some suspention travel!

Hey guys, whats the reason for the extra stud in the side cover, and what determined its position?

Thanks

The position of the extra stud is mid way between the others,
and is at a point that is most likely to lift off the side cover under load.
Anything that can be done to keep the crownwheel in mesh with the pinion is a "plus".
The ultimate is a through stud that achors on a solid side cover on the other side,
but in this case it is threaded into the same side, and will still add to the strength.

Update!

Hey again, I would like to start by saying I had a great time on the weekend at VW Warwick racing my other buggy and even drove it off the trailer after 11 runs!

I wont list them all but,
slowest (first run, 40psi in tyres so big wheel spin off the line)
r/t - .602
60 ft- 2.338
MPH- 63.11
ET- 10.595
I adjusted the tyre pressure on the next run and ran,
.586
2.10
62.94
10.307
The fastest run all weekend was 8.673@0.00MPH as dangerous would say it "BOGUS" but my actual fastest which didn't feel like a computer glitch was a
.578
2.092
63.91
10.155(Breakout)

All in all some very competitive racing on all levels i felt and can't wait too move up one with this new project! Congadulations too everyone involved in this event and a big shout out too Craig Hughes for doing what he does!

"Actual Update"
I have many parts on a wish list for Rodney to take over too the states(slipped it into is pocket at warwick)which includes cb performance front wide five alloy disc kit with dropped spindles braided lines and master cylinder, Empi rear wide five disc lit. Tyres steering wheel and more...

The car itself will be going back too custom in Three weeks time to have a 12 point cromoly racing cage fitted. That should keep me ammused for a little while but the Engine build is something i need to start too consider.

Cheers Dave!

Fibreglassing!(itchy)

Hey Guy's, well pulled my finger out today and got the painter around to help glass up this major crack in the side of the body. We started by sanding/grinding the body back paper thin around the area to allow more layers to be applied over the crack. Tie wire was used to hold the two sections of body in the right place. We then taped up one side and glassed to that. We will remove the body and flip it over to glass the other side when it comes back from Custom. I also cut the rear section out to give Dave plenty of room in there. There is more to be cut later so the body can be removed over the whole roll cage.

Here's some pics.

Cheers Dave!
