First Driving lesson with the old man was from home to Dromana in an XE falcon auto. Had driving lessons in a Holden Nova (camry S**t box). Drove mums camry once or twice:rolleyes: Prefered dads Falcon as it was clapped out and he didn't mind me using it as he worked 10 mins from home but my G/f was on the other side of town so he never had to fill the thing up while I was driving it. I was also in a band at the time so it was roomy enough for a quad box, guitars, amp etc.. Got my grandfathers vw 65 notch on the road as my first car. Still own it, still has the origional reg. In almost orig condition but last june it had it's first accident since I took ownership of it in over 14 years.:sniffle: Havn't driven it since I picked it up from the panel shop and ride a motorbike daily.

My mother would'nt let my dad teach any of us kids how to drive. He was a very bad driver, wheras my mother was taught to drive by her car and motorbike racing, engineer father.

I was taught to drive in a 1953 Vauxhall Wyvern, in 1959.

About 6 months after getting my licence my mother then taught me how to drive the Vauxhall as if is was a limousine and Lady Muck was sitting in the back with a tall glass of champagne on the fold down table on the back of the front seat, which was not to be spilled.

About another 6 months later she taught me how to drive like a racing car driver, with racing lines, apexes, clipping points and braking distances in the corners. That is what her dad had taught her, so she taught us all to drive like that which is why after 40 years or so each of driving neither me nor my sisters has had an accident.

TOUCH WOOD!!!!!

At that time my best friend was taught to drive by his mother who was the first woman in England to get a special drivers licence to enable her to drive her brand new 1930s MG.

He was a very good driver. She was incredible.

One wet day she did a hand brake turn in a 1955 Ford Customline to avoid an accident. She saw what was about to happen, shouted to us to hang on, threw the car into a hand brake turn, put it into first gear, put her foot on the accelerator and came screaming into the accident area backwards with the tyres smoking, missed by a few feet and then accelerated away. WOW!!! I'm still amazed by it.

I'd never seen such a thing before. She then proceeded to teach us both how to do a hand brake turn.
