Man am I bummed that I missed the show. I would have loved to have seen your car in person. If thats a green square behind you I think I may have
actually seen it about a year ago sporting P plates. Oh and WTF is up with that bus ahead of you and in the other lane?
And they shall beat their swords into plowshares, for if you hit a man with a ploughshare, he'll know he's been hit

Nah, not a factory panel, although I doubt it being factory would stop me modifying it!
Now... Let me tell y'all a story!
Saturday started magnificently, with a sleep in, i headed for what i was was hoping was going to be a tidy, complete, and solidly engined 1979 Type 3
Notch...
I was in luck, a quick look, fired it up quickly, and a short negotiation i was the new owner of a White Notch... I had plans in my head as to what i
wanted from it...
It's perfect for what i wanted
With a quick stop past a mates performace workshop, for a chat, a beer, and a laugh, i headed for work...
But there was a problem... The dub wasnt running right, coughing, spluttering, flat spots in the acceleration, backfiring...
I put my plans for junkfood lunch on hold and made it to work... Just....
I figured, ill deal with it after work, how bad can it be, its an aircooled veedub, these things survive everything...
Ill let the pictures tell a bit now...
No H2O was getting a tow truck ride...
On a side note... the tow truck had a tray designed for lowered cars (So the truck driver told me)
So while he hooked on, I inspected the tray, the angle, the ride height of mine... and came to the conclusion that... it wasnt going to work without
utilizing this feature...
While i was doing this, the driver jumped in to check that the car was in nuetral, and the handbrake was off... before i made it round the car to
inform him that it was in nuetral, and he just needed to lower the handbrake, he emerged asking WTF! with my prized Heiniken Gearshift in Hand....
Not Impressed... But by now it was 3am and I was just over it...
A (very poor) shot of the tray with its two piece design for lowered cars... it failed... the gouge marks on the ground are almost 1m long...
The problem after all this... A rooted condenser... and leaking, ok, hemorrhaging, oil cooler... and rooted plugs it seems...
I was planning on dropping the engine and box from mine, and putting the ones from this notch in... but not for a few weeks yet! Guess its being done
a bit sooner rather than later... Will get the lads i know that are more mechanically minded than me to check it all over before it goes in, and give
me a hand to do it... Might go lower while ive got the car on stands too...
Any tips on the engine change? Easiest with box in place? Or... any ideas on what i should be reading up on for it?

haha i saw the spiderweb and instantly decided i wasnt sticking my hand anywhere i couldnt see... Ill be filling the car with at least a couple of
cans of bug killer and closing it before getting in there at all i think! I hate fuggin spiders!
As for scoring two cars your interested in... You need to be quicker my man!
As for the hotel sign in the background and photo's, i was waiting for the RAA, and consequently, the tow truck, and given i had my camera, i was
experimenting a bit and wasting time till they arrived!
Be great to catch up and compare cars over a few brews mate, early in the new year it will have to be arranged! An SA get together of sorts i think...

It's all good. I don't have the time, money or place to do the cars as much justice as you have. Early in the new year sounds good, as long as I am
not working.
When you looked at the notch did you see what the guy was working on in the garage?

Man that volks rod was sweet.
Heh, my wife is the one who hates my "collection" ONE car is all I should have. Will have to get stuck into the garden shed soon to store the parts
from the 72, so I can get rid of it's shell and subframe and then fix the Verada so I can sell it, then things will be good.
The more I look the more I like your square. Just not practical for a family *sigh* I may try to make my own roof rack next year, and possibly get a
front visor.

Love your car! Those door cards are pretty cool. Would have been good to see it at volksfest. but I couldn't make it. I remember seeing it for sale
and thinking it might be a cheap, cool car, but you've done so much more with it than I ever could.
It's heartening to see you get into it with so much enthusiasm too. Wish I had the time and space to collect a few cool rides.

Thanks mate, its not perfect for everyone, but god i love it!
Ive been looking at making my own rack, might make a full length one, ive also been trying to find someone to make a full length ragtop for it too...
but thats difficult it seems, no one will even reply to emails regarding it!

Thanks mate, Everyone seems to think ive done better than they could have with it, im not so sure, i had an image in mind for the car, put together
from hours upon hours on the internet looking at photo's, seeing what other people are doing with them, seeing whats possible, and combining them all
together for my own twist of cool! Its great to hear people love it as much as i do, I always looked at peoples cars and aspired to one day own
something everyone thought was cool... i dunno if im there yet, but ill get there one day!

Thanks mate, the plan... well... Seats into the square, or at least one of them... Front guards, will be stolen for the square, i have some plans for
them, bonnet, no idea as yet, has a rust hole, but I have an idea... Gauges, it seems that the only type 3's to get the stickers for km/h over them
are the notches! Might steal that for mine just to make sure im doing the right speed, at the moment im guessing!
As for the rest of it, iv'e no idea at the moment, it was bought as a parts car, much to some peoples disgust, but rest assured everyone.... Its
going to make my square so much cooler!
You can have dibs on the boot mate, no problem, we'll sort something out for it im sure, drop me a line when you need it!

haha its all good, ive done the same thing to people, so dont stress!
And now for something completely different....
Being the person i am, who is that, well, it depends on who you ask, but anyway, i have friends in a variety of different fields, one of which is a
Videographer, or whatever you want to call it! Every so often, we borrow gear from each other, so i figured I might as well call in a favour and do
something Ive been hoping to do for a while...
So here it is... (Be fucked if i can get it to embed!)

Its only a waste if all the parts dont get used.. Parts of it will be used to fix rust in mine, other parts will be used to enhance mine, Scarab wants
some parts from it etc...
I have something in mind for the notch... it wont be to everyone's satisfaction, but that's life! (Dont bother asking, no one else knows about it,
and no one will for a long time yet!)

Sweet video, everytime I go under Anzac highway I gun mine as well. I am glad your using the notch as a parts car. I didn't want to say anything but
is is rusted to buggery in quite a few locations. When I looked at it I knew that it would take a heap of time money and talent to get it back to
it's former glory

No prob paul.
I was going to avoid south road when we filmed that, but the underpass was too tempting, its so well lit as well it makes for great video! As for the
notch, rust, im used to it! Its all going toward fixing the much cooler square... Im thinking i might go lower on the square while im underneath it
pulling shit apart too...

Damnit... I had a reply posted to this and it got lost in retarded computer land somewhere...
Anyway, i think a few people will be stealing that idea, but ive got a few aces up my sleeve to keep me ahead of the sheep
I was hoping to patch the square up and putt it around until after new years, but after changing the condenser today, and having it run amazingly
better instantly, the oil leak became my next concern, the bolts nearby that i thought would help stem the flow, didnt, and it is indeed a flow... So
ive decided ill have to bring the engine change forward to ASAP so i have transport again!
Im still considering changing the gearbox over at the same time, i still need to have a good feel of the box in the notch and work out if its better
than mine, i suspect it is...
The GTi swift that was written off and left in the driveway due to dealing with insurance companies is finally gone, so i can now have the notch and
the square back to back for the changeover. Hopefully that makes it a bit easier....
Im chasing a type 3 workshop manual if anyone has one i can borrow for the engine/box change, or one they wouldnt mind selling me...
Anyone want to help with (or just do..) the engine change!
haha
Im working on a few things to debut at the next shot the square attends... or the next photoshoot i do with it haha whatever occurs first!

Might have to take you up on that offer when the time comes for the engine change, yet to hear from the other member as to the whereabouts of his
workshop manual that he had, but thats cool, all in good time!
Due to work, nothing has happened on the car front at my place for a few weeks, and it will probably remain that way until work dies in the arse after
new years...
But i did move the cars today... here is how they sit now...
As you can see... the schwarz one is leaking oil in such an oh so lovely way.... yes thats an oil trail... yes there are core flute wild turkey can
cutouts as drip trays, thats because i cant get anything under the car unless i drive it onto something!
I snapped a new Avatar for myself while i was out there playing with the fisheye too
Here is a comparison shot of the two interiors as well... Other than the seats and gauges, i dont plan on using any of this, so if anyone needs
something... let me know...
