Come to Gunnedah you can race anything they don't care what you have under the engine lid. You can have a 350 chev in a corolla they just put you in your time category.
eg. they put all the 8 sec cars together. And 10 sec cars together and so on. It's heaps of fun I've been there 3 times. I've raced hampsters, chevs, v8 holdens and new falcons & lots more. It would be good to get more vw's there the Tamworth guys love it.

The whole argument of you have later technology or you have more power is a lame argument . I have almost 1500kg (1435kg weighed at wsid 2005) of weight to push and only have 1.8 litres to do it with . Its now 2l but the cost to get it there would exceed a short motor from Scat/Pauter . Everything for this car is double if not more the cost of what Gene Berg charges for their products so you need to put that into perspective ! And Im always going to be pushing almost double the weight compared to air cooled cars !

I promoted Warwick to the watercooled guys a lot and a few were interested but didn't come. the biggest thing I did hear from a few in the Watercooled circles is that they prefer roundy roundy racing over drag racing. They think drags is boring!! Don't flame me bug racer I am just quoting what the owners have told me of watercooled VW's.

I for one would love to see a big field of some the tough watercooled cars getting around that I know of.....

Hey Bug_Racer, Have a cup of concrete and harden the F*** up, stop winging like a bitch. Its your choice to drive a water cooled VW. You'll probably hate the idea that I have new technology in my air cooled vw, and it makes it go even faster. Get over it. Its not anyone heres fault that not many water cooled vw's want go drag racing.

Ive pushed drag racing to watercooled guys for years , its a lost cause between Warwick , Drag Combat in Sydney and Portland hardly anyone shows up . If you had a show on for lowest car or widest wheels Im sure youd get a showing . Im just not interested in that . Those that do circuit racing wont come out to the drags either , its funny cause when we raced proffessionaly we did launch testing sometimes and it was always important to get a good launch , but anyway its a lost cause . Yeah 99% of watercooled guys think drags is boring , but weekends like Warwick and Portland arent just about the drags and if they ever came to one they would probably see it . But unfortunately I doubt its going to happen so I guess its time to just leave it . I guess youve probably noticed the lack of any real tech posts in the watercooled forums as well . Seems everyone is happy to drive their cars stock or get an APR/Giac chip and thats it . Really sad that things are going the way they are .

Id love to harden up , move to America and race there . My wife wants to stay here in Australia so I guess Im gonna make the most out of my situation and try and change things so I actually have someone/somewhere to race !

A few years back there was a class in Sports compact of Pro FWD . I started building a 1300hp fwd Golf , before long they cancelled the class . I had spent $30k+ and I didnt even have a class to race it in . The car just sits there now idly awaiting for either the class to come back or a reason to build it . I had thought about converting it to rwd or 4wd but its not going to be much of a Golf anymore , so its on the backburner until after I finish the wifes VR6T project . So you see Im kinda in the same boat with watercooled cars at Portland/Warwick . If I turn up to Warwick and Im the only watercooled car there Craig will just cancel the class . I still want to race , thats why Im going to push hard for a street class for all cars to go in !

I dont hate the idea that you have newer technology in your car . In fact I prefer newer technology to the old stuff . EFI over carbs anyday . Todays EFI is light years ahead of what was around 20 years ago . I reckon you could take a stock beetle engine , keep it 1600 , decent cam (engle 110/120) flow the heads/raise compression and put the latest EFI management including knock sensors and quite easily double the power and reduce fuel consumption by 30-40% .

I know its not anyones fault on here that I drive watercooled . Im just trying to work out why people like yourself are so against allowing watercooled cars to race against air cooled in a heads up competition ?

I actually wanted to fit a Golf 4 gti motor I have here but go N/A .
My turbo motor made 303 flywheel hp when it was in N/A form so I think with multiple throttle bodies and a 10000rpm limit I could get around 340ish hp from it . It would be air cooled cause its drag only and in a lightweight bug Id give Dave a run for his money  . Only issue I can see is making the gearbox strong enough !

I don't think anyone here is denying you the chance of racing them mate, and good on you for pushing for something you want for a sports (Hobie) you love doing.
But the way you are going about it, It's making you look and sound like a 16yo school boy who's spat his lolly pop on the ground and stamping his feet for a new one.
Like I've said before.
Start a new thread on the topic. Gauge the interest you get. Then Submit it to Craig in an email. Never know your luck if there is enough interest in it

Try putting it here in the drag racing section. Not in the water cooled section were it only attracts water cooled people.
Bug racer isn't just wanting to race water cooled cars. He wants to be matched up with some fast air coolers as well.
so The thread needs to be in a place of interest to all to get the proper attention

I think your missing the point . I'll put it more simply for you .

Holden has a big meet and everyone is invted
50 toranas show up 30 of the street cars and 1 commodore street car shows up and a rodeo ute
Will you create a class so that all the street toranas can race with the commodore or do you keep telling the commodore to go race against the rodeo ?

yep. if you find that fun, or worth it for the trophy. or try and encourage other watercooled guys to come. we cant make them come, and it wouldn't be fair for you to be in the aircooled class...

I dont find it fun . In fact I let the wife race instead of myself so she can gain experience at the track . Ive been trying for like the last 5 years to get more watercooled cars out to the drags and its not increasing its getting less . The newer the generation of watercooled owner the less interested they are in racing . Im still going to be here in 5 years and I want to start enjoying going to Warwick and Portland cause I want to race and I want it to be a heads up race against other street cars . Maybe Im asking too much , but I guess I got nothing to loose ?

You say it wouldnt be fair to be in the watercooled class . Im asking what could be done to make it fair !

Ha ha , my air cooled days are over . best was 16.3 @ 85 mph . The electronic ignition was playing up and I coasted through the line . few days later the box blew and I pretty much sold the engine and its been sitting in the garage since . I took the VR6 out round about the same time and ran a 15.2 @90 mph . Thats when it all started for me and watercooled performance . This was back in 2001/2002
