If you need any help with part names etc. I may be able to help you mate, let me know.

I thought that thread on the Samba was excellent with regard to working out the differences.....I'll definitely be doing it to my notch when it comes time....its a bare chassis at the moment.

Your wheels do look good though, and it will be nice to see them tuckin under nicely in the rear.

Well fitted up the front wheels today, and to my suprise and excitment they went on perfectly. Tested with people in it full lock both ways and no touching at all..

Heres some pics for you guys.. Getting excited seeing it now.. Cant wait to get it driving and some centre caps in them.. And some white walls :)

Cheers Vice

that looks really great mate!! The rear looks like there i clearance, but I guess if there is any weight in it, it would rub unfortunately.

You really have a lovely notch....I am VERY jealous!! :fakesniff:

Well had a interesting suprise after test fitting the second front wheel ( RHS ) this seems to be a good CM closer to the guard than the LHS wheel. Which now has it rubbing on full lock. And really wrecked my day. These wheels are just getting worse and worse.. Very sick of throwing money into the VW pitt atm..

Has anyone seen this before ??

Cheers Vice

Well after a bit more looking around today iv found out that the difference is caused by the LHS front being .5 of a Cm lower than the RHS.

Im pretty sure when i raise up the RHS all will be good with the fitment, Then on to the short axle conversion !!!

Cheers Vice :D

Well bit of progress today.

Got up this morning with my mind set on getting Etta back to a drivable state. So atm iv got stock wheels on the back ( they dont rub at this hight)

But had the front drivers side sitting a bit lower tha the left and rubbing on full lock.

When the car was lowered last time i helped out but didnt get my head around every step fully. But after just getting in there and giving it a go I successfully raised it a outer spline and its now perfectly even with the left side and has a good cm of clearance on full lock.

Now on to the short axle swap !!!

Cheers Vice.

Lovely ride mate.
Was it much of a pain doing the short axles conversion? How much did parts cost approximately?
Cheers

From memory the parts whernt to bad.

It will take a couple of lates night with tho with 2 of you. And i had some very experianced hands helping me.

We ended up fully pulling the gear box out twice.

The costs from what i can rember where.

Short axles $150
Seals & Bearings $120
Fluids $50
Oh i also had to have the brake drums down which stung me $50.

We also had to buy a few tools like long circlip pliers and a few other things.

Cheers Vice

Well if fully fixed the battery draining problem iv had, It turned out that it was the clock draing the battery when it was sitting in the garage.

I fould this by going into the car at night and noticed the clock slightly illuminated. I then hit the lights, This turned on the other 2 gauges but switched off the clock light. Again turning the lights off turned off the other 2 gauges but turned on the clock..

Solution i just unpluged the clock, And tapped up the connections.

Now the batterys perfect and shes starting extremly well for a car thats only started once a week.

Been getting her out every weekend now as the weather has been good down here.

Heres some pics of the weeken, Cheers Vice :)
