Fuel

I've been given the impression that there are no Service Stations between the Ship and Hobart. Is this true ?.Because I don't think a Kombi would make it that far I know a Beetle barely will. :)

What D__Head told you that. Do they live in a hole in the ground. There are at least 7 that I know of b4 you get to Deloraine and that is only 40ks away from the boat on the way to Launceston and not even going into Devonport or turning off the Highway to Latrobe. Perhaps 30 more b4 Hobart. As it is there are vouchers for cheaper fuel in East Devonport with your receipts for rego. You will definitely not be wandering around looking for fuel.volma1

I thought there would have to be Fuel along there since it's a major road. But a few people got the Impression there wasn't since we were told to carry enough for the trip.

Like we would be filling up with Jerry cans or something. :)

If you are carrying gas bottles(filled) or jerry cans with fuel they will be confiscated at the boat b4 you leave as the tickets warn against carrying either. There is no refund or storage for them upon your return, so if you are carrying either stash them safely and don't let on to the persons loading the boat. It happened to me last year and I had only the disposable cannisters for the portable stove.volma1

Yeah Cool ..
I'm glad thats cleared up.
I guess we will have to stop somewhere after we leave Devonport. Imagine pushing 50 Volkswagans to Hobart. hahaha :) I know of two Beetles that are comming that can barely do 300 kms on a tank.

Shell servo's in Tassie:thumb

Plus there's BP, Caltex, Mobil etc, etc

With the number of mainlands heading over there these days in their own cars I would imagine lots more petrol stations opening up or at least upgrading facilities

It does sound like someone has had their head in the sand:jesus

There is wonderful wilderness over there in Tassie, but it is not the wilderness

Hey, enjoy the cavalcade everyone:sandrine

I think the main reason that they want everyone to have full tanks is because they are running a tight scedule and they don't want us to break formation to get fuel on the way.Imagin if people started dropping out all over the place it would be kaos for the orginisers. You should be able to do each day on a tank I recon.

You hit the nail on the head Gary!! The last thing we want is cars disappearing all over the place looking for fuel. You will have plenty of opportunity to fill up when you get off the boat in Devonport and if you really need to, at one of our stops on the way.

For all those that couldn't make the Cavalcade, here's a quick glance...

I don't have my buggy on the road right now, so we went down for a look-see in the Pug and decided to join the Cavalcade for a few km just to claim technically that I was in it. LOL
