yes that back pushing trick works well.

I got a notch roof out pretty straight using nothing but my back and a bit of the hell of my hands.

the notch was pretty close to how zelda's roof it as it was picked up by a claw thingos on a crane at a scrap yard and crushed the roof in from the sides in.

Paddock bashers, double garage, that'd be the life man!

But regardless, will contact some panel beaters, will contact GHR Motors and see if they know anyone as well and we'll see what happens.

Yeah the country is great, I just drive 150k for work round trip, I think working from is not good, it like living at work.

double garage? is that all? whats the prefix for 16? well thats standard for country and thats what you need !

Damn, well, if I can get it paid for by the insurance company then I won't do anything and they can deal with it.
If the quote comes back from the panel beater and it's going to cost a lot and the insurance company doesn't come through with it, then I'll try out the back trick.

Nope, she doesn't have a sunroof, but the keyword is now ;)

Yeah, I am very keen, but I want to see what insurance says first, otherwise you're right, I could have her on the road before Monday.
But, I need windscreen wipers and side mirrors, and no VW shops are open nor post offices either, so nothing would get to me until mid next week probably...

At the moment she's just sitting under the carport rusting a little bit. Bare metal is not good in the open.
Oh well, we'll see what tomorrow brings.

I'm thinking the insurance company won't even bother.
Shit may be for sale off of her, not 100% sure yet. We'll see what the insurance company do, it might be a write off, I doubt they'll even give me any cash as I've only got third party fire and theft.

And to think I'm waiting for all these bits in the post, I'll most likely just be selling them straight away too. Unless someone wants to give me another L bug... :(

Oh well, it might be the end of Zelda or it might not be. She might go into storage or she might be parted out. Who knows, I sure as hell don't at the moment...

I've got lots of photos, will post them up when I get the chance, on my iPhone so can't do it from here as photos are on DSLR.

Thats really Bad news Seb....
something I wouldn't want to happen to any VW lover.

something I don't understand, Is how people can do that,,

knowing that someone cares enough to have a 40 year old car on the road.. in good condition..
besides I couldn't do it to any car...
they are Sick or on drugs and idiots...

Shame it wasn't hooked up to 240Volts or higher Seb...

or insured with Shannons or NRMA classic car as they pay You out and You get to keep the car,,,,

its a bad bad world when You cannot leave Your car parked out the front of where You live....

although insurers prefer Your car is locked up with a large dog or two...

where did this happen Sebastiion? which suburb??

Wow that is so sad have read your posts about your car and enjoyed your enthusiasm for her. I know this won't make you feel any better but I guess it could have been found in a back block burned to the ground.

Plus I am a firm believer in karma dish it out and it will come back to haunt you, the VW gods will get the pricks!

They already have because people who stoop to such acts have sad lives! Head up son, something good will come from this!

Hi

I'm really sorry to see this happen to you, they would have been heavy kids.

The same thing happened to my sons bug, luckily it was insured with Shannons, mainly because of the wheels, suspension and stereo, it still had grandma spec paint. the damage bill was $3800 and it was insured for $4000.

As already said get professional advice

Mate try u pull it this weekend. Often they have 1-3 bugs in a yard. Bonnet wiPers and side mirrors would probably. E there and cheap. Give them a call. They were a good source for a gearbox once. Good luck. Ps I like the idea of a sunroof. Cheapest option if it doesn't push out

IF insurance pays for it, she'll be going in storage regardless. Seems someone doesn't like Zelda as it was pretty obvious it was a targeted attack.
IF insurance doesn't pay for it, she'll be going into storage.

Both cases, I'll be most likely acquiring a 1969 Type 3 Squareback as a daily.
Maybe something good will finally come my way?

wtf? how did you read my mind? when I first read this thread that was one of my first thoughts.

use a 12v portable electric fence unit. connect the active to the body, power to the battery, ground to a metal plate you can chuck on the ground under the car, wire it to a switch you can toggle with a plastic pipe or pole under the car somewhere and you're set!

only problem is if a dick head touched your car and gets a nasty shock, this will provoke them to stone the car or something similar. So the only way is a MOT (micro wave transformer) which is 2.2Kv and can output over 1 amp so that should be instant kill.

killing them dead is the only sure way to protect your car imho.

lol I am not crazy, I'm not I promise!

What a dog act to do. I'm glad a live up a private shared driveway (you can't accidently go up my drive) and that we dont have this issue.

I was at a party last year, mate worked his guts off for a 03 Forester, mint condition, he cleaned it 2 times a week, Polished once....anways. 18th party, a drunk guy decided urinate over it, and then decided to climb from the tow ball onto the rear of the car, run along it and then jump down onto the bonnet.......that was a costly insurance job.....he was made to pay the $1000 odd dollar excess.

Sad to see it happen Seb, shocker sensor alarm system is the way to go =)

Sorry to hear dude, hope it all works out.

We have 10+ beetles kombi's up the back yard and we had a gang of school kids skip school one day and come in the back of our yard while no one was home and jumped on every last one of the cars and smash the majority of the windows:grind: so now all we have is a pile of wrecks full of water cos they have no glass. They tried it again with more of their mates and me and a few of my mates mates happened to be home and they walked into a complete ambush:lol: we saw them and chased the little shits down the back yard and caught a few of them but they split up and we lost the rest. Police were called and the local school where I knew they had come from and it resulted in expulsion for the kids we did catch and thats the last we heard from them!!

Cheers Dave!

Holy ----!!! That's really cruel. I'm very sorry this has happened to you. Bloody hell!!

Over Christmas there were some white beetles parked around Leigh St & Gawler Place. They were like pot plants, with trees growing out of them. Over Christmas/New year, idiots were (obviously) jumping on the bonnets, just like what happened to yours.

I'm just really pissed off that this has happened. The fact that it happened to my car and only my car on the street, that pisses me right off. The biggest thing I probably need is the bonnet, the rest will just be metal repair, whereas the bonnet is way too crumpled to just be pushed out, in my opinion anyway.

Massive bummer that this happened to Zelda... I feel for ya dude !!!

Question tho - is she not drivable while deciding what you're going to do ???

Type3's are cool and always loved the look of the early Notch, but if you're truly a Bug guy it may not feel right driving one.

:ninja:

IMHO stick with Zelda... Jezebel was my first car, and despite some rough patches along the way I'm so glad still have her 20 years on.

Hey Dave!

Yeah, it is a huge bummer. I'm going to stick with her if I can, but she'll become the weekend play car.
The Square, which I'm calling Grettle, will be the daily driver that will look cool, Zelda will still, hopefully, stick around.

I'm selling some stuff that I bought for Zelda as well, so that I can gather the funds for some fixes to Grettle but other than that, Grettle is ready to go.
Will keep everyone updated with Grettle, hoping I can head out to see her later this afternoon and take some photos and inspect her a lot more.

I have to admit, I must thank everyone for their support and kind words, I really do appreciate it!
