3/4" will be what they finish at.
Not sure yet whether they will be tapered from both ends to the middle
or just a short section each end.
This will depend on clearance within the push rod tube.

Runners will be the same length as the old ones.
Pushrods will be finished when I get my valves and springs.
This way I can see where they will actually run, and finalize the length.(all before hardening)

Springs, retainers and collets arrived.
Also some cups to locate the bottom of the springs.
Retainers and collets are both Titanium.
Will have to machine out the spring seat and guide boss to fit them in.

Made this tool today to cut the spring seat and boss to size.
The outside diameter location:
The boss which i have stepped slightly so as to hold the spring tight at the base.

Began off setting the pushrod tube holes.
Will cut the chamfer tomorrow.
Will have to devise a new method to fit and test the springs.
These things use as much tension just to get the collets in,
than what I had before at full lift!

Titanium is not a good pushrod material.
It is more suited to springs.
Some years ago a customer used some in a 1500cc speedway application,
and they survived fine, but were flexing about 1/2".
It lost so much timing
that a change to chomoly required a duration reduction on a new cam
of like 20 degrees to restore lost HP at lower rpm.
3M actually make an aluminium matrix material that is a possible candidate,
but these springs may even test those $1000 niceties.

Wow Dave, who would think composite push rods could operate those HUGE valve springs.

Actually, I am not so sure that they would.
But if any alum push rod had a chance,
these would be the ones to try.

Hmmm... interesting... ceramic fiber turning up everywhere !!!
But, I'll be the dodo that asks... do stiffer pushrods actually reduce valve float ???
I would've thought being stiffer would give more lift (due to less bend), and sort of "sharpen" the shape of the cam at full lift over a pushrod
that bends under pressure... which is almost the opposite of what their graph thing shows....

Hi Dave,
it all comes down to terminology really.
If we call it"loss of valvetrain control", then yes,
a stiffer pushrod has less chance of inducing vibration
into the springs.
If it were a simple matter of the spring to keep everything tracking the cam lobe,
then heavier components would require more tension to do the job.
But there are so many other influences that make valvetrain control a constant battle.
Some times everything from a cam lobe profile, to a pushrod that is not quite right in its design,
can change things from one engine to another, even when all else is equal.

This is the second set.
The first set i made were a little short (in hind-sight).
