Yes good point Brad,
this is a problem with methanol period.
Not sure it will make much difference in 'space' whether it is injected either top or bottom,
unless it is injected direct into the chamber like the new Comodore engine.

The manifolds DO have a fair bit of cross section,
but there is always room to improve.
My theory with the better atomisation is just something I want to try,
and doubt very much it is the total answer, hence why I have other changes also in the works,
but if the fuel IS atomised better,
it will allow me to use less fuel per HP and thus more space for said air.

My primary reason for the top fuel entry is
to fatten up the power curve on the gear change.
I saw this occur last time I tried the nozzles up high,
but I am hoping this to be a better way to acheive the same result.
The top end normally benefits to if i can generate some controlled stand off.(it is my friend...or not?)

already made two VW cranks(90 and 82,5mm), one Norton bike, and one Nash vintage car,
but another Volksy with about 94 stroke would be cool.

So dumb question time from me again DB... what's the finishing process from here on the cam... presumably polishing and/or hardening ???

And how do you avoid the incompatibility with followers problem that keep hearing about, or is that not such an issue with roller cams ???

Hi Dave,
the next step will be for the lobes and journals to be pre-ground
to the desired shapes and sizes.

Crankshaft Engineering will do the journals on their crank grinder,
and Surecam will do the lobes to my desired specs.

It will then go off to be case hardened.
In the past I have asked for .060" deep case, but I may ask Surecam to give his recommendation.

After this it will go back to get the lobes and journals finished.
I made a flat tappet cam the same way some years ago,(currently in "Cranky2"),
and it was compatable with any of the induction hardened iron VW lifters(I used Mahle black ones).

In this case it will be able to be run on my current roller lifters no problem.

hey dave.
do you think this will be alright for the new heads.
280 50'
int 670atv
exh 654 atv
it's the same cam i have been running.
what kind off seat and nose pressures would you run.
and what kind of cfm difference should i be aiming for for another 30-40hp.
remembering my bench is 10'.
my old heads last time round were around 174cfm.
i am going to start on the same old bench so i can see ruffly were i start from and then move over to my new bench.whoo hoo.sf600.

That cam is a little big on duration, but will work fine, especially you plan to run more than 8500rpm.
This all depends on your final head result however.
Remembering that a good cylinder head can extend the rev range, and poor will limit it, for the same valve action.

My bench is also only 10", but I think we found in the past that those figures don't match mine.
Either way, anything better than 150 is good, and above 175 is awesome at 10".

Your 174 equates to 275 cfm at 25", or 275 flywheel HP in my opinion.
Books and theorists say the potential is much higher than this,
but reality, and life, show that it is more common, to make HP less than the same 25" number.

I have always used the 25" conversion,( x 1.5811, as a HP number and it is pretty close to most real engine dynos).
30 to 40 HP more will need 30 to 40 more CFM at 25",
which means 19 to 25 more cfm at 10" I guess.

OH!
Without knowing if your roller cam profile is stable,
I would have to assume that it is, my own combo used 260 seat and 620 nose for reliable 8400 limit.
A soft profile could use as little as 500 over the nose in a perfect world.

Your rocker arms will have to be able to stand up to this though.

You can send the cam away and have its profile simulated, to find out if you combination of parts is stable.

One flat tappet I used in the olden days was sweet at 7600,
but only if it did not spit out the pushrod at 6200!(C45 with 1.6 rockers).

Another time, (at band camp) the lobes were found to be ground backward! (Autocraft).

Zero lash helps.

Still waiting on my new Surecam, but have a Pauter one to try.
It has less duration than yours though.

Still waiting on my new cam, so fitted one that Don pauter did especially for me.
New MSD and injection made for a much nicer curve and a little more power.
Remembering that it ran 10.93@122 with 220hp and 1785 lbs of weight,
this should be worth a couple of mph and tenths too i hope.

The red humpy curve was last time, with small cam, 265*.
You can see how it has picked up from the 6500rpm and up (right where I use it).
