It would be interesting to install the old heads with everything else the same as now and compare the differance before replacing the pistons. Mike

Excellent result; getting 93 HP/litre out of an air-cooled, 2-valve, pushrod engine is quite an achievement.
I am curious about the boxes which surround the air intake ram tubes, especially in view of the rather turbulent-looking fuel standoff. I wonder if
the boxes are interfering with the air flow into the ram tubes; it would be interesting to test this on a flow bench, though I admit I don't have any
hard evidence or direct experience of such interference. The only reason that I have some doubts about the layout is that the air-flow pattern into
ram tubes is established well away from the mouths of the tubes themselves (ditto for NASA ducts, scoops etc.).

My flow bench shows no ill effects,
but it is only a guide as to what is really going on,
so I also believe there is always room for improvement.
I know better than most, that the flow bench does not tell the whole story,
so for this reason i plan to wait until i can try it at the track
(which is the whole point of all this), before making any more changes.
I feel the high nozzle position is ONE reason for the EXCESSIVE standoff.
I was actually trying to create SOME stand off, but now I have to find a nice medium that will still give me the atomisation i was after.
New manifolds are in the planning stage, which will allow me to continue in the search for the potential of these heads.
...just need some clear skies now for a test and tune.

Unfortunately my old heads(formely from speedway use) are past their use-by date,
but yes it would be good to try them again with the new found secrets of power.
I would also like to re-fit my old cam to try as well.
....too much stuff to do and not enough time!!

4 runs from 5.12pm to 7.01pm:
11.413@120.62 (missed 3rd)
10.848@122.76 (6.866@99.4mph)
10.800@123.37 (6.841@ 99.68mph)
10.775@123.75 (6.832@100.17mph)
was running a bit leaner than the dyno,
so room to improve,
but good to go for Sydney in two weeks.

ANDRA Super Street is up to 11.00 seconds,
and then after that, from 10.99 and faster, you go into Super Sedan.
Yes the car and driver are ANDRA legal to run in Super Sedan now.

Hey dude,
no obvious sources of spark, but i hit everything in the drive train with an eagle eye.
The outer 930 CV flange was very close to the IRS arm, so now it has more clearance.
Brakes are clear too. The spring plate bolts are close to the wheel, but have never rubbed.
Perhaps some sparks from the exhaust slip joints on the rev limiter?
The clutch looked good but had about 0.3mm wear in 13 runs and dyno time,
so adjusted the spacers.
All set for Sydney!

WOW! What a great long week end the Sydney trip was!
Left home at 6am on Friday morning and was home by 5.38pm on Sunday arvo.
It was great to catch up with everyone,
but unfortunately I was busy working on the car most of the day!
I did however, get a personal best eventually, of 10.70 @ 126.1 MPH,
but on my first run I broke a #3 exhaust rocker so that run was dismall(sp?).
Thanks to Mike Kristen, we went back to Penriff, and stole the rockers off the CBB ghia.
As soon as I started the engine, it sounded a little off, but oil pressure was good, as was the throttle response,
but a 12.19 @ only 109.56 told me something was sad.
Both the rockers on #4 had now just failed, and so that pass was a 3 cylinder one.
Interesting is that the speed equated to 183HP and 7220rpm.
Two more rockers, and the car was back to its old self.
With a guess tune up on the fuel system for some new nozzles,
it went 10.704 at 126.10 mph, which made all the hard work worth while.
It was good also to know that it was not a totally clean pass, so there is more room yet for improvement!
The 126.1mph speed equates to 279 FW HP and 8311rpm in 4th gear
My last run was all over the track, since I had not checked the wheely bar adjustment all day,
and it was aborted to save the car. 13.3 at 95 or so.

Hi Mike,
I will have to talk with Heads upPerformance,
but I think I may have done the damage when I first installed them.
I have since found that springs installed TOO FAR from coil bind can have spring surge,
and this may have occurred when I was too afraid to run the springs so high in tension.
Normally damage will not occur, but with the other springs having so much rate, the surge may have hammered them.
