the headnut bosses on the cylinder heads are machined to achieve the desired thread length on the studs as 3 of the 16 headstuds could have been 4mm longer , but not available in this length when I ordered them

I then insert small grub screws (that have been sharpened to a point) into the cylinders & put the heads on to mark where the stud holes need to be drilled for the 5th & 6th studs

the 5th headnuts wont clear the spark plus , so I machine down the nut boss area ..... unfortunately the head gaskets supplied by Pauter dont fit straight over the 5th & 6th headstuds so we will have to hand file the holes to suit as the gasket is very thin in this area . (we did have the same issue with Bens engine also)

WOO HOO !! just opened my mail tonight and received an ' OFFICIAL TRACK RECORD ' for Sydney Dragway in the CC/MD class in the WPVW Dragster 10.179@132.9mph .
I backed this up with a pass of 9.888@135.52mph but this was outside the 1% to be validated as a record .....

not sure how many 4 cylinder supercharged/turbocharged modified dragsters there are in the country ..... the national record for this class is in the low 7's (powered by Nissan) , but WPVW currently has the quickest one that has run at Sydney Dragway since its opening ....

Holy cow, look at that C/MD record at 8.46! (normally aspirated 4 cylinder).
I wonder what that is!?

I see also that Russel Sarten's VW also holds a track record in SS/C!

the copper head gaskets are filed at the 5th & 6th stud holes to fit the stud pattern in the Pauter cylinders .... the pistons are installed into the cylinders & the cylinders are prepared for painting

I calculate the compression ratio & choose a 0.030" (0.75mm) shim for under the cylinders to set the comp at 8.75:1 ...... the final assembly starts with the installation of the pistons & cylinders

Are the 5/6th headstuds just threaded into the cylinder ? Is there no concern with threads at that end of the cylinder with the amount of potential thermal expansion even with methanol ?

the 5th & 6th studs are threaded straight into the top of the extra heavy-duty cylinder spigots as Pauter have designed them to be . There is also the option of drilling the threads that Pauter have installed there , straight thru the spigot & running studs to the case if the case is suitable . My mag case is not suitable to do this ......

I got the engine for the dragster finished last night after Ben installed the pushrod tubes & Daniel linished/polished the plenums . I then adjusted tappets , painted new fabricated parts for the exhaust & intake , assembled all of the exhaust / turbo etc

this morning I installed a new 4-puk iron disc , cleaned the flywheel & stage-4 pressure plate prior to Ben Ford assisting me in lifting the engine into the dragster..... the old clutch disc was 1mm thinner than the new disc & very worn

the oil & breather hoses are all cleaned prior to assembly , the 675cfm Demon methanol carb is installed

I have purchased a Turbosmart E-Boost street controller for the dragster . This will allow me to adjust the boost pressure accurately for both the staging boost & max boost , all from the drivers seat .

the breather box is removed & thoroughly cleaned out along with the breather filters & hoses

with the spark plugs installed there is ample clearance to the 5th headnuts due to machining of the heads

I really wanted to work on the dragster tonight to get it finished and fire-up the engine , but at 7pm I tried to weld 3 alloy dash-4 nipples to the new plenums & the bloody TIG ran out of gas !! Oh well , then monday it will be ...

the boost pressure will now be controlled by a Turbosmart solenoid which is activated by the digital boost controller on the console .....
