Started Project in March 2004 mainly getting rid of rot. Then got bus road legal and tried a couple of rad set-ups before using and abusing it for
the last year as main commuter vehicle doing 200+ miles a week.
Have taken off road again as I have saved some money to finish bodywork and upgrade to 1800 Ford Turbo Diesel (hopefully a easy upgrade from the non
turbo) and Porsche brakes.

The car is showing its age so a total rebuild is taking place before I even think about putting on the road.

Hey All,
Soon I'll begin an engine swap on my '75 Aktiv Snow Trac. It currently has a Type 1 VW 1600cc industrial engine and I'll swap it out for a Subaru
EJ22 SOHC. I'd like a bit more power and in-cab HEAT!
I'll keep the original vw transaxle (until I break it!) and buy an adapter plate from KEP or Outback. I'm looking into various ECU's right now but
kind of like the Link EMS series.
see the Snow Trac here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XGByXUsWsBw |

Hi all,
I have a toyota 4AGE 1.6 twin cam that I have turboed
with a T28 garrett, in a 1968 sunroof beetle.
check my post elsewhere on the forum for more details.
It turned out to be a really nice conversion in terms of refinment and performance.
Toyota engine are excellent and reliable and somewhat
over looked. Maybe people are fixated on a boxer layout above all else??

Alot of work for not a lot of gain, hope you will be happy with the results. What engine have you got, the 110hp 2 carb or the 150 hp 4 carb. I have
driven a few of these conversions and would personally stay vw. Instead of all the rotation change in direction stuff for your engine, the cars I
drove usually just flipped the crown wheel over for a reverse running tranny.

Its not to hard at all, my mates corvair vw did wheel stands, I like the torque, and will still keep my other vdub. All up the whole conversion will
owe me about 300 bucks. I have the 110 twin carb because the torque/rev is better. You can flip the ring gear but its not strong enough and you cant
do anything too wild. cheers |
