Dean, my car actually has 18hp, 20hp was without the aircleaner.
It was only making 14hp before Dan played with the timing. That's about a 20% power increase!!
Although I still reckon it would go better with 18 real horses strapped to the front.
Ooh, suits you sir!

It WAS NOT THERE before - it was in the other post. That is why i copied it.
And to make it worse it has been snuck in before my cut and paste just to make me look stupidier (is there such a word?)

Torque V HP
G'day Blue74l,
No offence taken.
In ref to your question, I neeed to have the F9A re tuned as it is leaning out above the 4000rpm mark. (Killed the TPS the other month and need to re
tune the top end) The cam it is running is a only mild......makes the Hp/Torque in the 3000>5500 range. (E? grind.)
From the Dyno print out sheet it seems that I am making just under 500nm at 90klm, this was done in 3rd gear at about 4200 rpm. However I can assure
you/everyone that it is a pleasure to drive in the current set up.......even if it needs a little more of a tune up.
FYI running a 71mm CW crank, heads have had a little head work and that is about it. I was informed from the guy I bought it off 2 years ago that it
is a 1973?? CC motor.
Is it a stump puller.......oh yeh....very nice....does me fine!
Cheers

Pat, I only put down the best reading.
On a number of cars removal of the oil bath air cleaner upped the HP by about 2HP. This was the case with mine and Golde60 and I think Colin.
Amazing to think that simply cleaning the air cleaner you could gain another 10%HP in a 36horse.
Just a note on torque. The print out was in foot pounds (imperial) My oval was producing 350 to 400 ft lbs at 70 to 75 kph, of torque and was the one
of highest of all the tests I saw. (1600/1500's)
However it was only due to the low geared 1200 gear box in my car.

Errrr yes.
Was hoping to slip that one past the keeper.
But thanks to Pat the jigs up.
With aircleaner it was 36 ground pounding, dyno destroying HP.

Ahem,
Can I just point out that Wombat was 53hp at the wheels WITH the air cleaner!
I also claim the price for the biggest increase of the day an additional 28hp after Mick tinkered with my accelerator !
The accerator fix was made permanent today at a whopping cost of $150 ! which is about $5 per horse!
You wouldn't believe how much difference an extra 28 nags makes ! (actually you probably would)

Ahah, and the truth shall set you free. (classic line from Lair Lair)
In absolute truth mine has a different cam too. Apparently a 356 Super 90 cam or grind profile??. Obviously not worth the money if you look at the HP
produced.
First order of business for mine is
- Better air cleaner
- Put the extractors back on.

At least we found out quick what the problem was and I hadn't driven her far, so it was quick diagnostics and a learning curve. |

I wish I had a car to put my 1600TP in. It also had a 'mild' cam, and I'd be interested to find how it compares. Maybe I'll throw
it in the bug!!! (Heather would not be amused :o)

I picked up an extra 4hp with the air cleaner on, and I've been amazed by how much difference it makes on the road. :thumb
I am going to lose a little when I retard the timing a degree or two though. It's fine for 'normal' driving, but Heather tends not to
shift down when I think she should, and as a result it starts to ping a little. I'll wait until I've finished driving it though.

:o you guys were serious. taking air cleaners off etc. And I thought "washing" an intercooler on the audi was cheating!
you didnt take the kombi kol? how am I gonna know how many extra neddies Ive got.
I wouldnt worry about the power fig from the 2010. After all its only 40cc's bigger than stock.
I'm starting to think about putting my other motor back in my kombi for nambucca. Its very troubling. Do I go for outright raleigh glory or the
non existant kombi trophy. Dont know that I can afford to get my trailer up and running so might be the only way to go.

this has got me scratching my head...
Fatboy – 1972 Kombi
- 1700 stock carbs & exhaust - 53 HP.
Toybug – 1970 Kombi Panel
- 2000 stock carbs & exhaust – 42HP
I think 20hp or thereabouts is SO kewel. Bet they dont get too many readings like that on their dyno.
So does that mean I've got the most powerful VW powered kombi in australia still? I certainly hope not. Cmon people!

I am SO glad I didn't take the kombi!!!
Chris, you topped the horsepower ratings by 1 Hp (for a kombi), but I'm betting your kombi doesn't make the same torque as the 68 Hp bus
did.
Toybug's 2L motor came from a paddock, which explains why it didn't make the same kind of power as Steve's 1700.
Hopefully next time we have a Melbourne Dyno Day, I'll be in the kombi, although the way things are looking, it may well be a 2L by then.

I doubt it too. But then nobody cares about torque do they. just ask any marketing guy. :P I'm happy to lose out with this motor. Its good enough
for the moment but not exactly spectacular. Spac-tacular more like. Anyone got a subaru water pump? mine has died.

Who said what?
What is the old saying! All torque and no action! Who cares about all these figures!
Just nice to have a get together and see what type of ponies/torque is being pumped out by vehicles that have a lot of milage under their tyres! Good
to see the comparison form factory specs to now!
All the best,
