It looked great with a twin turbo 996 only slowly gaining on him...even when he did, it was only the porsches legs on the straight that made the real difference.

The way he dismisses wanting to turn up the boost, even just a touch, is killing me. 10 or 12 pounds and the 914/6 and 911 would have been wondering what that blurr was that flew past them, not that they didnt anyway!

Nice to meet you finally C.T. and co.

CT, you used to run 15" cookie cutters didnt you? I was wondering if you had any gain/loss in turning circle when you went to 16" fuchs or did it make no difference at all? My tyres rub on the front of the trailing arms and I thought the extra inch in diameter might just push the widest part of the tyre outwards enough to gain back a "bees dick" of steering lock. Or I might just be on some seriously good drugs. Oh yeah I've currently got cookies and looking at 16" fuchs or similar.
Cheers

Times.

I got to the track around 11:00. I had a pee around 11:05. It took me about 10 minutes to walk from the pits to the final turn coming on to the straight.

Jak was somewhere in the 54s as was Deiter. Still waiting for somebody to crack into the 53s. I don't think there was as much rubber on the track as last year.

I'm sure you would've looked on Natsoft by now Craig.

Wheels.

I used to use 195/60R15 Yokohama A008R mounted on 15 x 6 standard rims, then 15 x 7 replica Fuchs and then on 15 x 6 cookie cutters. These have an overall diameter of around 615mm and about 15 - 20 mm smaller than a standard tyre.

Now I use 195/50R16 Yokohama A048 Lotus tyres with an OD of about 600mm. That means the diameter is actually smaller and the car is lower to the ground.

Now that I use drop spindles I do have some clearance issues with the fronts. I'm not sure how I'm going to tackle that yet but there are a couple of options: bump stops on the shocks, more neg camber, machine 5mm off the wheels, shave part of the tyres...

Thanks CT, so the drop spindles add to the track width? About how much?
Cheers

Not sure how much track they add. But I used to use 5mm spacers with 2 1/4 neg camber with the same wheels and had no clearance issues. Now I have no spacers and 3 degrees neg and I have clearance issues.

Mind you I the shock bump stops may have limited the travel on the previous combo even though I cut them back a bit.

Regards CT

Huh?

Followed Jak up the old road on Sunday and I thinks we will still be able to race closely on the track until his boost comes on. It was fun following Jak around the bends. I noticed two things. 1. A swirl of air seems to come out from under his car when he stomps on the throttle and then changes gear. It looks like a helicopter landing on a wet helipad. 2. Sparks when he hit a big bump.

I'm stoked with my car. I threw some bigger jets in the carbs and the engine has got more lively. It pulls much more strongly from 3000 rpm just as I planned. The front end grip also feels very good but I'm going to have to go to the gym and pump a bit of iron to get used to the heavy steering.

I can't wait for the next race at Wakefield park.

Thanks for posting the times Craig.

Good luck at the Grafton Hillclimb.
