Hi Nick,
Yes smaller by 10 degrees!
60 foot was also a result of more RPM off the line.
This is with the 26" tyres.

If I was as light as that Honda I would be nearly as fast.
But that is not any concern to me,
I have so many more things to try I had better put my name down for a clone!

Thanks everyone for the positive replys.

No plans of coming up north til the Warrick Weekender sorry . I have really got my hands full at present just trying to keep the work flowing through the shop without any staff members . Just myself and a 1st year apprentice as I have lost both of my workshop tradesmen to a V8 supercar race team .
I am currently putting in 16 - 17 hours a day , 5 days a week and 8 hours on a saturday . Sunday is my only opportunity to play , and today it was build a transmission for my sports sedan which is coming out of the back of the shed and heading back to Huntley Hillclimb with my son ( Dean ) as the pilot . I am about to put a post about it in the circuit racing forum . Wayne .

No worries mate I can fully understand where you are coming from as I was running my own business myself for nearly 10 years till a nice easy opportunity came knocking with holiday pay etc etc. Good luck with the sports sedan and see you at Warwick.

Cheers Brennden

So Dave are you baking a big batch of muffins for the mini jam??? If so I'll start starving myself now LOL

It's pretty heart breaking hey,
your flat out and this car is just pulling away like your just cruising.
It's happened plenty of times to me, that's one of the reasons I like a loud exhaust so i can hear my car when you have a tuff v8 or 13b next to you.

oh so close to 120 dave.... not far away now.

Its very educational for me reading a thread like this - its more and more obvious that its not about how many go fast bits or $ you throw at an engine, its all about the combination of the RIGHT pieces and the RIGHT tune......

point in fact... who would have believed an NA 1600 would go 15 flat ? not me.....

keep it up Dave, just another Aussie Vee Dub Drag Legend in action.....

Checked the rod bearings this morning and all is sweet for the Mini-jam net Saturday.

http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n216/dangerous_05/BrgsOK2.jpg

http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n216/dangerous_05/Strong.jpg

The only change will be the shorter intake runners.
This new length was calculated by a program that I got from the USA.
It is primarilly for exhaust system design, but has other features also.

http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n216/dangerous_05/ShortStacks.jpg

The new length is 13.3" from the ram tube to the valve seat.
It is about 4" shorter than previous,
and about 6" shorter than when these runners were used in a speedway midget.

Hi Rod,
Only the intake length this time.
I shortened the collector length at the track during the last Test&Tune,
with no appreciable change(1/10 of MPH).
Exhaust system is the next change in length and diameter...I have a box of tubes but that is all.

Davo Has His First Win Since 1995!!

The only changes for this event were the shorter intake runners,
and I also shortened the bump stops on the rear suspension.

The shorter runners made virtually no change, but I am still tinkering in that area.

The shorter bump stops made a huge improvement and made for very smooth launches.

Qualifying was very hot during the day, and I even had to lean off the fuel mixtures to compensate.
The first two runs were shockers, but last qualifier was a relief :

11.99@114.45 (bogged the start)
12.12@116.88 (missed 2nd gear, but leaning mixtures helped MPH)
11.58@116.67 (a little slow but a clean run during the heat)

Dialled in at 11.43 which is my Andra record,
this was just a guess with the air now cooled off
and a very inconsistent qualifying effort.
I richened it up for the first round of racing.

11.431@117.83 on a buy run(top qualifyer gets the buy)
11.443@116.76
11.730@117.99 bogged the start, but won due to a red lighting opponent(good MPH)
11.400@110.32(backed off on the finish line)
I broke out , but my opponent broke out by more.

60 foot times were:
1.843(bog!)
1.708(bog!)
1.612 bit better considering the heat

1.585
1.545(now we're cookin')
1.809 (bog, but "get out of jail free')
1.550

I think I will give the tranny a freshen,
and try the "two step" again, but on the clutch pedal this time. Hmmm...

Hey Nick! My emails bounced back.

Car weighed 1775lbs and re-set the Sport Compact Group Record to 11.400.

Well, its time to get back onto the car and do a bit more.

I have finally got a concrete floor!

http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n216/dangerous_05/Img_2314.jpg

I have been wanting to build a new exhaust system for a while and so now it is time to give it a go.

I am not sure if it will work out but here is what I want.
There are no off-the shelf systems for these engines.
Pauter heads use a big square flange
and the primaries need to be in a position to clear the oil pump and fuel pump.

My current system has 2" primaries and they have been extended to clear the afore mentioned parts.
Not exactly ideal.

Recent book and internet searches have found a computer program that says my system needs
to be no larger than 1 7/8" diameter primary pipes and between 26 and 30" long.
These details change with cam, rpm range and engine size.

I have some flanges off my damaged 'Blower' Pipes,
and the pipe that I will use needs to be swaged into an oblong shape
to prevent the port from being obstructed.
The current 2" pipes just clear the port in their round shape.
The Pauter exhaust port is massive...probably too big for what I am doing,
but this is how it is, so no point compaining.

My intention is to make and mount a collector,
and then bolt the flanges and stubs up,
then fill in the gaps with various mandrel bends.

After reading Westi's posts in Members Rides,
I thought I would give it a go, and make a jig for cutting the pieces for the collector.

http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n216/dangerous_05/Collector1.jpg

First piece looks OK.

http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n216/dangerous_05/Collector2.jpg

I was not sure how to mark out the shape so tested the memory
and unearthed some 'tech drawing' and 'trig' memories to plot the points.

http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n216/dangerous_05/Collector3.jpg

Angle is 15 degrees.

http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n216/dangerous_05/Collector4.jpg

Any pointers from anyone with views on this would be gladly accepted.
